WOW! Where was Terry Black when I was going to school in Waco?!? I'm so excited to see this Texas favorite expanding to this area! From the incredible food to the standout service ... my family and I had a wonderful meal here. You can tell that a lot of intention went into building this restaurant, just from the parking lot and the entrance. As soon as you exit your car, you're hit with the tantalizing smell of smoking Oak wood. Follow your nose over to the pit, where you'll get a firsthand demonstration of how the brisket you're about to eat is smoked to perfection. I'm not sure how those pitmasters stand the heat of the CTX sun mixed with the fiery smokers, but I'm eternally grateful to them for doing so! The ordering process for the restaurant is laid out well - you hop in line and pick your sides, then make your way up to the cashier and select your meats. For our group of six, we opted for the Family Pack for $125, which ended up being plenty of food! We tried a little bit of everything ... and my favorites were the Original Sausage and the Pinto Beans. Brisket isn't typically my go-to, but Terry's does it so well they might change my mind. We also ordered a few of the Black Margaritas, which are frozen and very strong. I definitely recommend sharing one to start (you can always get another later!) The service was also spectacular - everyone from folks who took our order to the woman who brought us a to-go box was incredibly friendly. The three of us split brisket, chopped beef, turkey, ribs and a single jalapeño cheese sausage. Three sides and two beers and soda $150. The servers when we ordered were preoccupied with their own conversation and we had to interrupt. I felt the ribs could've been cooked alot longer. Kinda tough and chewy. Not fall off the bone. The brisket was the best I've had in a while but hubby felt it was cut unevenly and overly fatty. Sausage was cold. Turkey was tasty and kid loved the chopped beef. He wouldn't share. Sides were tasty. Cole slaw, potato salad and Mac & cheese. I thought the bbq sauce tasted more of ketchup than any thing. Nice atmosphere but quite a few rowdies when we were there. read more

One of the newest & Best BBQ place in Waco! Place is quite large with plenty of indoor and outdoor eating areas, very clean. BBQ brisket is super soft & moist, perfect smoke taste. Really loved the cream corn probably the best I've had. Sausage is fantastic but the beef ribs are the absolute best item on the menu super meaty and full of flavor! Average bbq. Tough and dry brisket. Tough casing on sausage. Overpriced! I got 1/3# brisket, 1/3# sausage, slaw, and medium tea. It was over $30! Then they had the gall to ask for a tip! Heard so much about this place that we rounded up the cousins and had an early dinner here after checking out the Dr Pepper Museum and Magnolia Silos. Right as you're walking through the patio you're greeted by huge smokers where all the delicious meat you are about to eat come from. It's "cafeteria style" which means you get your choice of sides and meat. My sister and I shared 1/2 lb pork ribs (two ribs) and 1/2 lb brisket (six slices) along with Mexican rice and creamed corn. Finished it off with a banana pudding. The ribs were amazing and I loved the creamed corn. They did a great job of keeping the place clean and taking away trash. Would totally recommend! read more

I get to travel around the country for work and although I complain about it. The truth is I love it. So for a while I was on a BBQ FAZE. Now some areas boast about their BBQ, however for me they all fell short. In fact I just about gave up on BBQ. Until this BBQ restaurant. I came across Terry Blacks BBQ Restaurant in Waco, TX. This is the real deal in the BBQ world. As with all BBQ restaurants they are cafeteria style. Just for the record I'm not a fan of cafeteria style but in this case I'll make an exception. So the food. Brisket was moist/juicy. Very tender too. I also had the sausage which I loved. Comes sliced into bite size pieces. As usual all sauces are on the table. It was Wednesday evening and this place was jumping. The line never died down Seating is inside or outside on a patio. I chose inside but after seeing the outside atmosphere I was disappointed that I didn't eat on the patio. Another bonus they have a separate building, open on all sides for smoking meats. The aroma was heavenly. Unlikely that I will be in Waco, Texas in the near future but if I'm ever there again I will definitely eat at Terry's, and I will sit on the patio. read more

Took my husband here for his birthday. How have we never been here before? The vibe was totally his style - paper lined trays and a la carte meals. A casual, fun atmosphere. We are from California and my son's friend suggested for us to try Terry Black's Barbecue. In our first visit, we tried all the menu and we loved it. The famous Terry Black's has made it to Waco! First things first the place is huge and full of life. They have a line set up getting your sides first and then the meat. They cut the meat right in front of you as well. It's a fancy buffet except you finish with $100 gone from your wallet. The meat is exceptional! I got the 1lb Beef rib and cheddar jalapeno sausage. The sausage was only a little bit spicy and the cheddar added a nice richness and robust flavor to counteract the rich sausage. However, most of the sides were bad. The coleslaw was decent. The cornbread was unbelievably dry. The mac n cheese tasted like craft box. The green beans were so bland and not even hot. The only thing good was the banana pudding, but thats hard to mess up anyways. Overall, I would go back just for the meat and don't let them trick you into getting the sides. Especially since the meat itself is so expensive just keep to that. read more

An ever so slightly upscale Rudy's bbq. We came on a Sunday and everyone piled in after church. By noon it quieted down. First to compare:creamed corn. At first I noticed it was thinner, a bit more sweet but then came the savory. The seasoning on top and the herbs within the sauce made for a more complex flavor profile. Quite the yummiest creamed corn I have ever had. I'm going to call it the adult version of cream corn. We ordered brisket too, of course. Slices were on the thick side. The bark and ring were nice, the fat side just enough to give it the moisture brisket needs without being too oily. I am quite impressed with Terry Black's Central Texas Barbecue! Terry Black's BBQ is so good!!! This location did not disappoint. So glad we stopped in today headed back to Dallas from Austin. There is plenty of parking, street and 2 parking lots. It was busy but there is so much seating. Walking in, we were shown the smoking process and all the brisket on the smokers. The process of preparing, smoking, and resting the brisket takes about 18 hours. We had a nice cold beer. The line moved well and all the staff were super friendly and helpful!! We tried several things: potato salad, baked beans with brisket, fresh purple onions & pickles & jalapeños. We ordered sliced brisket, sausage, a couple of ribs, and a sliced brisket sandwich. The brisket was tender & juicy, not fatty. Sausage was delicious, love their spicy BBQ sauce. The pork ribs were delicious and not fatty. The restaurant was clean and spacious. As customers left, the trash was removed and tables sprayed down and cleaned. It was so much food, we brought the brisket sandwich home for later. We were greeted by Oscar, while in line, he was very friendly and checked on us while we were there. The bathrooms were convenient and clean. We will be back next time we are driving through Waco!! But I was in Waco and went to try them out! And wow, Terry Black's BBQ is legit. The brisket was moist and tender, and had such good flavor that you could eat it without any bbq sauce. Pork ribs were tender and fell right on the bone. Green beans were a bit on the salty side, but nonetheless delicious! We stopped at the Terry Black location for lunch on our way back to Dallas. We really liked the set up of the restaurant with options for outdoor and indoor seating (with outdoor being pet friendly). My husband and I did our usual where we ordered a tray of meat and sides to share. We went with the brisket, turkey, chopped beef and the Jalapeño cheddar sausage. While brisket is usually my husband's favorite, our slices were a bit dry (I still really enjoyed them). The chopped beef brisket was one I found hard to stop eating so he could have some! The sausage was one of his favorites with generous cheese and flavor. The turkey was moist with great flavor as well. They offered three different bbq sauces which was great to have different flavor options. I liked the yellow/mustard sauce as it wasn't too sweet or spicy. For our sides, we went with the Mac and cheese which was creamy and delicious. We also really liked the coleslaw as it wasn't your typical mix and it had a great flavor. Outstanding! The reviews brought me here and even as fantastic as they are described and written, don't give it enough justice. If you truly want unbelievably delicious barbecue you've got to come to Terry Black's! We arrived about 7:30 on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was pretty well filled and even when we left at 8:45 there were still plenty of people coming in to eat the delicious food. This restaurant is pretty unique. It is a barbecue style cafeteria restaurant. You walk through the restaurant almost like a maze and you get to the area where you pick your sides, we had the creamed corn which almost tasted like I was eating a dessert and it was unbelievable off the charts! We also had the green beans which were just as tasty as we expected. I got some cornbread and some banana pudding which were both wonderful. The banana pudding is probably the best that I've ever had and I've had lots of impressive banana pudding at barbecue restaurants. We also got some pickles to go with our meal. Once you finish with the sides you go over and you select what meats you want. They are priced by pound and you can get 1/3, 1/4, 1/2, or a whole pound of brisket, pork and beef ribs, turkey, sausage and chopped beef. We got one pork rib which was about a quarter of a pound and two slices of amazing brisket, fall off the bone type brisket!. Each slice of brisket was a quarter of a pound, so we had a half pound of brisket between the two of us. There were three types of sauces on the table, an original, a sweet, and a spicy sauce. I tried the original and the spicy and both were really good. I'm not a sweet barbecue person so I passed on that sauce. All I can say is this place truly brings it. I can't recommend enough coming here. The next time I'm back in this area I will go back. The food is great, the prices are reasonable for what you get, and the service is amazing. All the staff members are there to help you and they have a smile and a wonderful attitude.
