Other stylists take an hour and I am fighting my anxiety to bolt out of the chair. I don't have a lot of patience for long hair cuts since I've met Terry. She definitely ruined that for me. I usually prewash my hair the day of or the night before I see her. She cuts my hair dry so she can see how I normally wear it. I have long and a lot of hair. It's not thick, but I have a head full of hair. In addition to a lot of hair, I have a weird round big cheeked face. A wrong cut and it'll be instantly unflattering. I've been to Terry twice now and have been super happy with my hair. I recently moved to OC so I've had trouble finding a new hairstylist I liked because my hair is so thin and can't emulate a lot of the styles I like, or people always cut my hair too short so I end up not liking it. But I haven't had that problem with Terry. She's a sweetheart and super friendly, and she also cuts my hair how I like it based on the pics I show her. The first time I just got a trim and I was surprised I loved how it looked after it was cut, which is rare since it usually takes a while for me after it grows out to start liking my hair. This is the first time I've written a review because I feel Terry highly deserves it. I'm extremely critical of my hair. I will go through a thousand barbers to find the right one, because I have to have someone who not only has experience but keeps up with current trends as well. As a recent transplant to the oc, I had spent way too much money at places that will quickly shave the sides and cut the top in under 10 minutes and expect $$$, or a 5$ cut that I might as well done myself. Needless to say, my hair started to lose it's style as it grew longer and I yelped for the best Korean barber I could find. And that's how I met Terry. An extremely fun and talkative woman, she'll take good care of you as well as making sure your hair turns out exactly the way you want it to be. I showed her a combination of pictures of haircuts I liked, and she seamed them together flawlessly. There were a few times where I thought we were finished because it looked so good that I would say "okay, great! Looks awesome!" Thinking the cut was over, only to have Terry tell me there's still a bit that needs to cut or fixed. That's the kind of care that will keep me as a returning customer. I gave her the ultimate test of perming my hair; something I haven't done except once since returning from Korea because nobody could do it correctly here, or would be charging obscene amounts that I didn't feel comfortable paying just to text out. At Terry's, I got a perm and a cut for 55$, and it came out fantastically and better than I imagined, and better than some of the 100$+ salons i've been to To summarize, Terry is someone you should check out if you'd want someone professional who also happens to do Asian styles of hair well. She gave me several tips on different ways of styling, and went above and beyond my expectations. She's open 9-7 Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays, and she only takes cash or check. I grew suspicious when Terry was finished so quickly. However, weeks later and I really like the layers she put in, especially when I put my hair up in a ponytail. I first noticed that everyone was wearing PPE's. I was in her third chair in less than two minutes. She washed, cut, shaped, blew dried, and styled my hair in less than 30 minutes. Terry is extremely sweet and good at communicating during the haircut. It's easy to walk in and get an appointment on a weekday; her haircuts seem to be very fast, anywhere from 10-20 minutes. She has a good sense of what styles will look good for hair types and head shapes, and she is very helpful with providing suggestions. That said, her haircuts are exceptionally expensive for the amount of work/time she spends on them, and she can be reluctant to take customer requests into advisement. She was heavily persuasive, even insistent, against further trimming my hair in the back (as I had wanted) and she was equally convinced that further thinning/layering my hair would "look bad". It is easy to feel that her protests might be partially inspired by her reluctant to spend more work/time meeting my requests since she already spent the "allotted" 20 minutes on me. I'm not dissatisfied with the result, but it's a trim at best, and $35 for a 20 minute touchup is a mediocre deal. (Also, the hair wash that comes with the cut only uses shampoo, no conditioner.) read more

I felt like I walked back in time, to a salon stuck in the 90's. This is Terry's Hair Art?! I thought I was lost until I saw a "yelp" sticker posted by the door. Imagine a salon that's a little run down, the lady's half eaten lunch left on the table, while she yaps on the phone. One thing I enjoyed was the fact that she spoke English so I can communicate with her what I needed to get done. If you are a regular to the beauty establishments around this neighborhood, they usually speak limited English and do whatever the hell they want to your hair! I don't understand why Yelp lured me here when it is basically raving about an mediocre hair job for a discounted price. Terry was able to accommodate my walk in on a random Monday afternoon. I got my hair cut by Terry's Hair Art 2 weeks ago, and I'm still furious about it. I went based on the rave Yelp reviews but my experience was not all that positive. There was 1 stylist and her assistant present, the shop was a little run down, but I wasn't going to judge her ability based on the aesthetics of her business...maybe I should have. I asked to have a shorter layered do, she complimented my hair color and texture, saying that it was so nice blah blah. It started out ok but things went south fast when she cut my bangs straight across and didn't angle towards the side of my face. I thought, "maybe she'll thin it out later." Yea no. She literally cut straight across everywhere, the back the front. I looked like someone put a bowl on top of my head and just followed the line. She blew dried my hair, no product and I was done. I paid my $35 and left, I thought maybe I would need to go home and style it myself. Wrong again! I couldn't believe she did this to me, I wasn't about to go back and have her fix it. Let's just say I went elsewhere to get it fixed and the stylist there was shocked. Not only was it cut super blunt but it was crooked. I needed to write an update... I was just there on Saturday and I brought a friend who needed hair-help. Terry did a fantastic job as always! But that's not why I needed to update. She has a credit card swiper thingie now! YAY! I don't have to freak out if I've forgotten cash!!! Also, her sister washes hair now. She does a FANTASTIC job. The water temperature is always perfect for me (nice and hot) and she speaks English! Terry usually had some help before, but they were usually older ladies who didn't speak much English. I went to Terry because I couldn't get in an appointment at Salon 25 for the longest time and my hair was in dire need of a cut. Of course, I yelped and found this great place. It's cheaper than my regular place, plus the reviews were great. Terry is really friendly and quick. I think she is great for the price, but I don't like my layers or bangs as much as I do when I spend a little more. I don't know what it is. Overall, I think she is great, I'd go back again, and I have even sent my husband to her a couple times already. Granted, I love his regular hair cut at Belmont Shores at Carefree Hair, but unfortunately, we live in Buena Park and Terry is probably the best there is close to our home. I've been going to Terry for 6 years now. She is like family now, probably knows about all of my dirty laundry. I like to be able to get in an out within 15 minutes when I get my hair cut (when its typical buzzed sides, short on top there is no reason for more time than that). Terry is no-nonsense about this as well. After paying $25 dollars at a Cool Cuts for kids for my older (now 7yr) son (which he cried despite sitting on an airplane seat and having a tv in front of him) I decided to take him to Terry's. I don't know how she cuts his hair so well when his head is constantly swiveling and he laughs constantly, yelling "Auntie Terry IT TICKLES!"
