I've been coming to Charlevoix almost annually for twenty years and make Terry's a definite stop each time. Why? It's because of the whitefish and attentive service. I was rewarded last week when the special was a blackened whitefish. I ordered it and was glad to hear they would prepare it they way I wanted, in their ala Robinson sauce, a mix of garlic, olive oil and parsley. It was amazing to the point of putting down my fork and thinking another one would be good, but I resisted, opting for the gold brick sundae instead. The place is small, intimate and gets busy quickly. If you're in Charlevoix for a weekend, don't go in there Saturday night expecting to be seated immediately, it's not going to happen. We plan ahead and go on Sunday night or during the weekday when the crowds are smaller. Also, here's a tip for Saturday night, Terry owns the Village Pub in front of Terry's, you can order a lot of the whitefish dishes in there. A few other notes from our group last week. We ordered the mussels appetizer and was very pleased with the size of the muscles and the amount. The sauce they came in was excellent and had a nice kick to it, perfect for dipping the bread into. You can't go wrong with their French onion soup, either. It's made the authentic way, Gruyere cheese melted over the crock bowl. Finally, don't forget the dessert. We always go for the Gold Brick Sundae, a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in a chocolate that hardens into a thick shell, a must have. read more

This is a wonderful small restaurant in downtown. I enjoyed the Veal morel with Angel Hair pasta. I ordered the house salad with house Balsamic and blue cheese crumbles. Everything's was excellent. read more

Terry was on point last night. My cousin and I ordered from the 3 for $30 menu (!) and had ourselves a fantastic time all while getting quite the deal. Tried one of each starter, morel mushroom ravioli and French onion soup. Generous portions, good soup, fantastic raviolis (I had ravioli envy). We both got the whitefish with lemon butter sauce and both pieces of fish were big, fresh and well cooked. Sides of tomatoes, hash browns and beans were also tasty. Dessert for her was the gold brick sundae, nice vanilla ice cream with a chocolate shell. All in all, meh for me, though she liked it. I had the most perfect chocolate soufflé with sweet cream, fresh out of the oven. It was delightful. I can't wait to go back. read more

What a wonderful dinner! Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere was great. Our server, Christine, was so friendly and was excellent about being timely and kind. The support staff was also always filling our waters and providing extra bread, etc. There was no rush on our dinner and everything came out perfectly, really was able to enjoy each part of our meal. Started off trying the escargot we'd heard so much about and it was amazing. Then they served some salads to start our meal and just as that was settling the main courses arrived. I got the veal and my boyfriend got the duck, both were delicious. Came with some yummy pasta and we tried their stewed tomatoes(delicious, of course). Finished the evening with a key lime pie and raspberry creme brûlée. You can tell when restaurants like to pose as fancy places and just overcharge for small plates, but Terry's was the definition of quality fine dining. While shopping in Charlevoix I asked a shopkeeper for dinner recommendations. Since we enjoy fish she sent us to Terry's. Great choice. The food was exceptional. My wife had the pecan encrusted whitefish and I had perch Robinson. Portion sizes were very generous. And, the prices are very reasonable especially considering the quality of food. The service was also excellent. The only complaint we'd have was the noise level. It's a small place, around 15 tables, and the sound echoes. It was difficult to talk without raising your voice to be heard, but it won't stop us from going back. read more

Have been going to write a glowing review of this northern Michigan gem for quite a while. It's long overdue. Terry's has got great food period! We started going here in 2017 after years of avoiding it because of their no reservation policy. During "the season" its literally a crap shoot whether the wait will be fifteen minutes or two hours. But let me tell you that what ever the wait is it's worth it. Locally sourced fish from Cross fisheries right down the street is probably the biggest draw and most popular entrees. But we have a land lubber in the family and she finds a great selection of beef, some pasta dishes and her favorite chicken schnitzel. Each seafood item is prepared four different ways so everybody is happy. Perch grenobois is my favorite but this preparation is great with the whitefish too. All entrees are served with a house salad, vegetable and starch. If you're quite hungry order the wild mushroom ravioli for an appetizer. You'll love it! If this isn't enough please be sure to save room for the world famous gold brick sundae. It's very shareable and something not to miss. Aside from over the top good food, the service is superior. Every server that we've had is genuinely interested in pleasing and catering to your every whim. Wish we lived full time closer to Terry's rather than just on the weekends. The best walleye dinner around. Tender, flavorful and the lemon sauce is to die for. Dinner comes with a roasted red pepper jam for the bread. If you like red peppers you'll love it. One of the best places for a nice dinner in Charlevoix. read more

Stumbled on this place 15+ years ago on a frigid winter eve and liked it so much we went back the next night. Absolutely our go to place when In Charlevoix. Haven't ventured off the fish menu as it is incredible. We have had the whitefish walleye and last night tried the perch. All fantastic. Where else can you get stewed tomatoes as a side?? This place was amazing! My boyfriend and I are in town for the weekend and wanted a nice, relaxing dinner. After seeing fellow Yelpers positive reviews, we opted for Terry's. They were completely right! The food was incredible. We both started with garden salads with a house made vinegarette (highly recommended). I had the white fish (pan seared with capers) and my boyfriend had a pasta special with lobster, crab, and other tasty things. We were both stuffed and completely satisfied by the end of our meal with leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I also ordered the stewed tomatoes as a side dish with my fish and finished every last bite. Our waitress, Jill, was wonderful as well. Very friendly and attentive (as were all the employees working there). If you're in Charlevoix, go to Terry's! You won't be disappointed! :) read more

Reading other yelpers' reviews of Terry's makes me think the place I visited was a version in an off-kilter parallel universe. I'd say it was over priced but not sure I would have liked it at any price. The food wasn't that good, starting with the Gordon's Food Service cole slaw and ending with the Cheesecake Factory cheesecake (seriously, you want to be a high end restaurant and your dessert menu offers me something I can get out of the freezer case at Costco?). And one of our meals featured perch that was so soggy with olive oil, and so laden with salt, that we left half of it. One final note -- I had high hopes for the capresi (sp?) salad, it being August and all. But the tomatoes, though evidently an heirloom variety, were like cardboard. Setting aside the mediocre food, what's up with the vinyl table cloths? We sat down and I thought, hm, that's funny, they forgot to put a real table cloth over the vinyl. But then I noticed every other table had them too. I'm not a guy to notice details of decor, but I do notice the feeling of a vinyl table cloth on my arm. Maybe they were trying to give a reminder my mother would appreciate to keep my arms off the table. Service was ok, although the kitchen was slow. read more

This was my first visit to Charlevoix and I on our first night I saw the crowd waiting patiently outside Terry's and thought it would be worth a try. I was not disappointed - the food was excellent - I had the whitefish almondine - most delicious! My husband had the walleye Robinson and he found it a bit garlicky so if you aren't a garlic fan try something else. The fish itself was outstanding. The biggest surprise was the fantastic balsamic vinegarette - I could eat it with a spoon! Definitely worth the wait to eat at Terry's! read more

I have wanted to try this place for years, but the distance from the cabin and the touristy nature of Charlevoix in the summer kept me away. That was a mistake because it was worth the drive and we got seated right away. Our waitress Jill was a delight, an obviously experienced server, who answered all of our questions and kept things right on time. The place specializes in fish, but I had the lamb, which was divine. Cooked rare to my liking, the huge chops were excellent. Really beautifully done lamb is a joy to eat. My side salad was old fashioned creamy cole slaw. I had forgotten how much I liked this oldie by goodie. Then for dessert a huge Goldbrick Sundae, which has tofffee ice cream, covered with a hard chocolate shell. Cannot really beat it. The prices were reasonable, maybe even low for Charlevoix. I will definitely make a return visit. read more

Unfortunately in northern Michigan great restaurants are hard to find and have a harder time surviving, Tapawingo and Andante in the recent past. It is nice to find one that we were totally unaware of that has survived. Terry's is that place. I love the attitude, the table is yours until you choose otherwise, hence no reservations. They will work with you however and it seems to work. For me, hands down the veal with morel mushrooms is a winner. Order the hash browns with it, spectacular. Reasonably priced wine list which contained a nice Cote de Rhone. We will be back next summer, I hope you are still there. read more

This place should be the model for customer service that Michigan uses for it's recovery. We got there to find a 20 minute wait for dinner. We were advised to go to the bar around the corner and they would come and get us! We did, they did, and we thought that was fantastic! Once settled in the staff was so cool. They shot the breeze with us, served us very professionally and the food was unreal. First was the roasted red pepper/basil/garlic dip for the bread. Mmmmmm! My in-laws took us to dinner here, and after looking it up online I was worried that it would be too fussy for our teen sons. While pricey, Terry's is anything but fussy, and the food is worth every penny! Three of us ordered the potato crusted whitefish and my only complaint was that I could only eat half my filet! The green beans were perfectly cooked, and the stewed tomatoes were delicious and different. My sons ordered the perch, and both had leftovers, but even my picky son ate some green beans! We were all too full to try dessert - maybe next time. If you're looking for someplace special to dine in Charlevoix, or just want an excellent meal and don't care about the price, go to Terry's for a sure bet. read more

We went to Terry's for dinner during a weekend trip up north in early November. They were running a fixed price menu special that we both ordered. The highlight of the menu was the mushroom ravioli which we both ordered and loved. The seafood we ordered was good but not outstanding. We felt that given the special menu price that it was a good value. We would return, but would probably experiment with some other places first. read more

Off-the-chart whitefish (pick any preparation method); terrific pork roast (red wine-currant reduction); average steak (hint - don't get the steak). Even the stewed tomatoes were fantastic (with celery, basil & sugar). All the recipes are Terry's originals. Combine it all with superior attentive service and it adds up to 5 stars. Try the white fish in the lemon buerre sauce with capers... it's amazing! My brother also really enjoyed the scallops.

Absolutely amazing! The food was to die for, and the staff was great. We visited the town for the first time today and decided to eat here. It was not a let down. This is not a cheap place by any means, however for the portions and quality it was WELL worth it! The breadsticks were good, nothing to go crazy over, but it's bread at the end. Their signature red roasted dip was really tasty and not spicy. The salads tasted great and super fresh. For our entries I ordered the Whitefish Robinson and my Fiancée ordered the Whitefish Grenobois. Such a delicious meal! Wish we had a delicious place like this around the metro Detroit area. Instead wears stuck with truly overpriced places like Joe Muers!!! read more

Unexpected gem of a restaurant in Charlevoix. Nice wine selection. Attentive service.

Wife and I went for dinner. Got there on Sat about 6pm and got right in. I ordered Walleye and wife had Dover Sole special. You can order all fish prepared 4 different ways. We both chose Genobois which is with Lemon butter sauce and capers. Both were great! Service was also excellent. We topped it off with Chocolate mousse which which we highly recommend Ambience was also good. Would highly recommend. read more
