What a bad decision to go with Tesla Solar! The installers broke a marble slab on my garage and did not tell me. Then they left the electrical panel they replaced with no trim. The system only worked 50% for part of the first summer. Took months to get a repair crew. Now we need a new roof two years after the installation. It is 15 weeks to have them remove the panels. I can get a roofer here in 6. I definitely do not recommend Tesla solar! read more

My solar is good but I have been charged $500+ over the contract amount which I paid in full. Presently The Tesla project manager, Robbie Sonson, has suspended my solar production in an attempt to force me to pay this money. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and it is still pending. Presently I am trying to get his supervisior, Natalie Bales, to review my BBB complaint and contact me to resolve it. My contract was signed in March, the solar was installed in April and the contract amount was paid in full. The product is wonderful, the customer service is not. read more

After 4.5 months of waiting for a fix, the help was finally here today. The fix was extremely professional and fast, job finished within 2 hours, and the technician did everything single-handedly! The job did not required 2 people like what I was told 4.5 months ago. So here is what happened with the long wait for a fix: service staff is basically non-existent in Marin County, not even 10 miles away in Petaluma. My service help came from 60 miles away in Contra Costa County (over 1 hour of driving). That said, Tesla really needs to resolve their solar power staffing issues in Marin County. I am so glad the issue is finally over. read more

If I could choose zero stars I would. Our Tesla solar system died one month after installation. I've been waiting for 2 months for service and they said they do not have service techs in our area. There is no ETA for fixing our brand new solar system. DO NOT under any circumstance install a Telsa solar system. Look at the reviews which I failed to do. Was told no work force available in area yet I see solar being installed all the time as I drive around. Maybe you are not offering competitive labor rate incentives... (editing this update ) after waiting 1hr I got through to someone in scheduling. I found out maintenance team is completely separate from the installation team so to my surprise new systems are being installed but no one can help the back log of maintenance requests. This is crazy , how can they not fix broken systems while continuing to install new ones. This practice seems extremely unethical and unprofessional. read more

I purchased solar panels from Solar City about 8 years ago and that was all great. Then came Tesla and I wish I could give them back. My system has been down for over two months and I still can't seem to get anyone out here to fix it. It took almost a month for Tesla to just order the part. Twice I've had no shows and the appointments have gotten pushed back. Do yourselves a favor and go with another company and if you already have Solar City panels pray you don't ever have to deal with Tesla. Customer service is not one of Tesla's strengths. read more

Clean power! We had a medium sized PV system and 2 PW installed. The team helped us through the whole process: design, financing, installation, inspection, and activation. Although it took awhile to schedule the installation due to high demand and backlog, installation itself was very quick (about 5 hours). Tesla has been very supportive: they provided a discount for those impacted by the wildfires and will give us a refund for the difference in the ITC rebate due to the delay in the installation. read more

EDIT: It took all of a few hours for SC to find and respond to this review on Ye*p. The customer service policy is to expect a response in 24-48 business hours! I am still waiting on responses to two emails I sent out last week! Obviously resources well spent. Another promising company that cannot organize themselves to back up their great products and field team with a functional customer service center. The idea of only being able to talk to your sales rep who then has to talk to all the other departments, AND still try to sell new customers is certainly the central weakness for SC/Tesla. If they could realize this and separate salesmen and customer service, and give us a truly dedicated service agent it would be a great company! If you know enough to say, "what about the concierge team" and still say it in a positive way, then I am guessing that you are being taken advantage of and don't even know it. The concierge are so overwhelmed, I feel bad every time I call... p.s. edit: I have been a Tesla investor since 2010 and am a bit fan of Musk and his ambitions so I do hope he can turn his cousins company around here! read more

I was looking into buying solar panels for about a year. I finally decided to go with solar city since it's affiliation with Tesla.. I met with Paul Rankin, solar city Rep, and he was super knowledgeable about solar as well as kind and accommodating. He was willing and patient to answer all my questions thoroughly and was ok with explaining it over again if I didn't get something. He was really good at getting back to me quickly if I had more questions to ask even after our official meeting. He made it flexible for me to schedule my installation even through my super busy work schedule.. I chose to buy the panels cuz I had the money n he was will willing to revise the contract from installments pay to cash payments over the phone.. he also gave clear instruction on how to add the app on my phone.. great guy! Will continue to work with him .. glad he is my Rep! read more

Solar City has proven to me repeatedly that they only care about making the initial sale. I have had nothing but problems in my first year with them and have had to fight with corporate to get then to take any responsibility and make any attempts at making things right. First, during the installation process, they dropped the ball, didn't respond to work orders from my local utility company, blamed the local utility company for delays and, only when I gave them dates of emails and names of their representatives, did they finally admit they caused the two month delay. Next, the installer did FAULTY ELECTRICAL WORK in my breaker panel. This caused the 220 to my dryer to repeatedly trip, making it appear the dryer was in need of replacement. We were fortunate it didn't cause an electrical fire! SOLAR CITY again blamed the local utility company, until such time as I had the utility company come out and find the error, noting that ONLY SOLAR CITY had done such work in the breaker box! Then they said they would only pay for the electrician service call, not the replacement needed due to Solar City's incompetence. They finally split the cost of the dryer after a month long fight with corporate. Then, though my entire roof faces south, they installed the panels in a shaded area so that my system under- produces. I lose out 3-5% production. Multiply that out over 20 years! They will do nothing. Their installer said nothing. Customer service said it was in the agreement that I signed to. While this may be true, though I do not recall ever seeing a layout of the work they would do, I, a lay person, rely on the experts to do their job well. But as it turns out, that is not at all safe with this organization. Now, I just learned that they installed a part in my inverter that was known to have problems, so many that they had a newer part to use. Unfortunately, EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW THEIR PART WAS FAULTY IN NUMEROUS SYSTEMS AND THEY HAD AN AVAILABLE REPLACEMENT PART AT THE TIME, THEY INSTALLED THE FAULTY PART! This caused my system to not produce at all for twelve days! That's twelve days I had to buy my energy from the local utility company. Their response? Sorry. But we're not going to do anything about your added expense! GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY! read more

They were great as solar city, when Tesla took over it went downhill. The site doesn't give any information on panels but keeps directing you to "how to design your Tesla" site. Not great when I have solar panels. The system went down and it took one rescheduled appointment and two visits over 8 weeks to fix it. Jeremy and his team were very easy and pleasant to work with. The initial presentation at our home was clear and simple. I was impressed that there were no surprise costs or loans that the two other solar companies pointed out during their presentations before we met with Jeremy. The installation was done quickly and the technicians were nice and very careful to clean up when they were done. I have waited 6 months after our system was installed to write this so I would have a more total overview on it. I hear and read about how hesitatant people, like me, are about home solar power. I do believe it's because of the misunderstanding of the facts as well as the time it takes to understand all the numbers and how it all works. It is a learning curve that takes under an hour to understand and I'm 67 years old. The understanding that my wife and I received was two words, Niel Wenderoth. He was and is our Field Energy Consultant. The people from SolarCity that camp out in Home Depot were so happy that he was picked for our home consultation. You see, they can't pick a consultant, it's more of a 'push the button and see who's next on the list sort of thing. I can not speak for any of the other consultants, who I am sure would be just as good, but for my money, I would call Neil directly. In an hour he laid it all out, from kilowatts per month, price of the system, lease or purchasing, financing, to the time frame of the installation. And once our system had been in for several months he followed up with an informative visit on reading our new PG&E Bill. Neil takes care of you!! I'm very picky about my house; appearance with panels, conduit runs, and the inverter box. I cannot say enough about the installation crew from Petaluma who installed the system. They ran the conduits unseen in the attic, the inverter is out of view, and after they left I inspected the roof and you couldn't tell anyone was up there. It is perfect. You really should have Neil explain the whole thing even if you don't buy it. There is absolutely no high pressure sales and the education you'll receive will be worth more than the hour of time you spend. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention, our power bill is between $10 & $11 a month. It's PG&E's minimum. read more

Not sure if this is the correct office of SolarCity that services my area (Vacaville), the number that I've repeatedly called is 888 765-2489. The process of deciding to use SolarCity for solar and the installation of the panels, equipment,ect went exceptionally smoothly. Before we officially signed the contract we informed the rep that we would be replacing our roof within the next 6 months or so as well as refinishing the exterior, "no problem" was the response, "it'll only be a $500.00 fee to remove & put back the panels, ext just give us a week or so to schedule". We called the above referenced # spoke with Stephanie who was going to get "updated pricing" and scheduling time. As you see the quote of $500.00 was not honored and we have yet to get a date as to when the panels, ect can be removed for our work to be done. We've repeatedly called, left messages with no response from SolarCity. We have since spoken today with Will who has been the most helpful to date of all the people with this company, In deciding to go with SolaraCity we knew the parent company was the automaker Tesla who had a very good reputation. We felt that SolarCity would also have the same, we have been sorely disappointed with this company and if we had to do it all over again we would definitely go with a different company for our solar needs, We believe in solar energy just not with SolarCity. Everyone we met during our process was courteous (severely lacking in 2015), competent and seemed genuinely interested in doing their part so that we felt satisfied with their service. Starting with Nick Garcia as our Project Manager. Honest and eager. I respect the need for salesmen but he helped us realize, having a renewable energy source isn't just financially advantageous, it's a responsible participation in the reduction of highly polluting coal powered electrical production or potentially dangerous nuclear energy. Solar power is undeniably required. If we all get a system whether it saves you money or not, would ultimately provide us all with clean, cheap (possibly free) electricity!! THink about it! The process went QUICKER than Solar City predicted. That was a bonus. We were fine with the bureaucratic red tape timing of "forever" to get our system up and producing but it was fast. Everything after the inspection of our house a candidate for a system took less than a month! The installers were great. Friendly and fast. Cleaned up very well after the job too! ANother bonus as we expected to have some cleaning to do. I'm telling you...our experience with Solar City was pleasantly refreshing in this day and age of "Press 1 for English". We are very impressed by the installation solarcity did at our home. Over the past year, we have seen many companies knock on our door and try to get us to go solar installed, but it just did not seem like the right decision at the time.Then I met Don Payne and he seemed like someone we could really trust, so my husband and I agreed to have him over to learn more about getting solar. From the first meeting, I just want to say, I found Don to be honest, knowledgeable and was not pushy at all! He explained the process clearly, the contract and exactly what we should expect going forward into our installation. He even showed up at our installation and brought the installation crew a pizza! Over the few weeks, Don kept us informed at every step of the way and exceeded our expectations. It is obvious that Solarcity offers the best product, service and most importantly, the people. The best part is that we are now generating almost all of our energy from the sun and it saves us about 40% on our electric bill. We decided after a few years of wondering about Solar to take the plunge. We are so glad we did. We were introduced to Dan Sullivan and just hit it off right away. Very professional and very knowledgeable, especially about all the negativity solar seemed to get a short while ago. Everything went along very smoothly and then came installation day. What a great crew!! On time, communicated every step very well and protected out home. It really seemed like they were doing their own house, that's the kind of mentality and care you want. OK this is a negative review of solar city and tesla I had them install at 9KW system on my home system work for about two months and then the system failed apparently the inverter failed and the The salesman told me that they monitor the system continually and I would be notified if there was any deficiency and my panel output or the system I receive no call from anyone I was on vacation in Hawaii I came back no solar I called to report the problem and was told they would send a repair person out in about a month. The person came out on time and reported that the inverter had failed and he would order a new one. I asked how long will this take he said I'm not sure could be a month so far I've been without solar power for two months no calls from the Tesla or solar city I called four times and was told they are under staffed on the service side and two months was the best they could do this was unacceptable to me after paying cash for the system that has been down during the best production months read more

Overall, Solar City came through for us, as promised. We did get to switch our contact person, because the salesperson was unproffessional in manner, but i learned also they have since been removed from the business, so that helped my view of the company overall. The installation was amazing, from the speed in which it was done, to the friendliness of those installers to the cleanup and the clean and safe method it took place in. We absolutely love our savings, theh couod not be more obvious. We are paying less than 1/3 of our average electricity bill, and while we did hit a few bumps in the road with internet issues that can be attributed to the salesperson who didnt disclose all the terms we needed to follow up front, we are overall quite satisfied. Once those kinks were ironed out, we received credit for our inconvenience as well as even better service from the managers involved. I know solar can be a tricky thing, not everyone will save money and some peeople dont understand that. But you are still bettering the environment by providing clean energy rather than supporting the atrocities of pg&e. I would recommend a lease with this company to anyone who pays more than they feel they should to pg&e as well as to those who want to do their part to supoort a clean and safe environment for generations to come. It can be intimidating locking into a long term contract, so make sure it is right for you before you do so. If you do your homework forst, you wont end up one of the disgruntled, bitter people who are kicking themselves for signing a contract they didnt thoroughly read first. If you do what we did and research, and debate, and read front and back and sideways all the caveats and fees, and still find you will save, then do it! You wont regret it. But it really isnt for everyone. For those it will save money for, we save big. read more

I had SolarCity install their panels at my home a few months ago and it went so smoothly I wanted to wait a couple month to make sure it wasn't too good to be true. We have had the panels turned on now for 2+ months and don't have a single thing to complain about. The initial process with the sales guy Andy Harris was fantastic. Super knowledgeable and not at all pushy. Made him come out 3 different times to explain and answer questions and he seemed happy to do it. Could tell he definitely enjoys what he does. After going back and forth on the best option for us and looking at several other companies we opted to buy the panels and used SolarCity's financier. Great rates, great terms, great options and paying way less than I was for my power bill. It definitely helped the sales guy's cause that I am a big Elon Musk fanboy and owned some SolarCity stock before Tesla bought them and have a Model 3 on preorder (# 100 and something thousand in line). All that said the process to installation wasn't perfect but the follow up and end result was. They had to come out twice to take measurements (better to measure twice and cut once though in my opinion). The install was painless. They were done in 4-5 hours and the system was up and running with PG&E a couple weeks later. Overall very well done....now if you could just hurry up with my car. read more
