Situation was that my son & I were driving Toyota FJ Cruiser with 190k miles from Atlanta to Denver. I had it checked before the trip & everything appeared OK. Long story short, just outside St. Louis at 5:00 PM on Good Friday the check engine light came on followed by all others & engine started shaking & losing power. Found an Autozone & they did diagnotic reading saying #5 misfiring - replace coil. They said Meineke down the street might be able to do the work. I high-tailed it to Meineke but the gentleman said they couldn't do it as they were closing in just over 30 mins so couldn't get the part that late in the day. I offered to go back & pick up a coil from Autozone and man said OK but I needed to be back by 6:00. So went back to AZ,, bought the coil & slid into Meineke in time. The mechanic installed the coil in record time and we were back on the road by 6:15. Quoted me $92 but charges were $88 (I supplied the coil). Truth be told they've could've charged me twice that and I'd still be happy.

The dealerships wouldn't help because I had not bought a BMW OEM motor at over $600 (I bought a 3rd party motor that had an identical spec to the OEM motor for under $200). I contacted Joe's because, honestly, the name sounded like a local shop that wouldn't give me a run around. I was right. The gave me an appointment for that week. I waited in the shop while they installed the motor in under 1.5 hours and was on my way for under $200. So, BMW was going to charge me over $1,000 for parts/labor. With Joe's garage, I was able to get it done for under $400. Huge savings and very happy customer.

So I called Roy's because they were right by where I was dead. I'm glad I did :) I didn't have anything but nice employees through this whole process. They were able to very quickly (dropped it off on a Thursday expected for a Monday/Tuesday appointment...I get a call Friday afternoon with an update! I know that's not the norm, but I'll take it ). My car was taken to AAMCO for a leaking transmission and after getting it back, dashboard lights…read morestarting turning on for unrelated issues. After doing some additional repairs the car was returned, however dashboard lights reappeared and they were unable to resolve it after multiple attempts. Shortly after while driving the steering assembly on the car completely fell apart requiring a flatbed tow, had this happened at higher speed on a highway this could have resulted in a fatality. The certified dealership mechanics who examined the car afterwards found that AAMCO failed to tighten the bolts to spec and all of the cotter safety pins were missing allowing the steering system to fail. Extensive damage was done to the underside of the car and it is currently not usable. After seeing the extensive damage, my dealership will not recommend AAMCO Ballwin to any of their customers in the future.

I had to stop in without an appointment because the skid plate cover under my front end suddenly fell loose and was dragging loudly on the highway. When I walked in, I saw how incredibly busy they were and honestly thought there was no way they'd be able to help me right away. Fortunately, I was completely wrong. The front service writer acknowledged how slammed they were, but instead of turning me away, he went above and beyond. He told me he'd head to the back to see if a mechanic could spare just a few minutes to get me safely back on the highway. He returned shortly with a mechanic named Jonathon Boyer. Jonathon didn't hesitate for a second--he said he'd take care of it right away, and he did exactly that. In less than ten minutes, Jonathon had the skid plate repaired and brought my car right back up to me. That level of genuine, rapid customer service is so incredibly rare nowadays. I truly tip my hat to Dobbs, the service writer, and Jonathon for saving my day. An extra note on why this location is top-notch: It was a brutally hot day, and I felt so bad for the mechanics having to endure that intense heat. While waiting, I noticed that the company had cold Gatorades and even electrolyte popsicles set out to keep their crew hydrated and cool. Seeing how well Dobbs takes care of their team speaks volumes. If I were a mechanic, this is exactly where I would want to work. Thank you again, Chesterfield Dobbs team! Example, I recently went in with a flat tire, so I knew I needed a new pair of front tires. I am definitely not handy at all or have any mechanical skills, so I asked if I needed a set of back tires as well. They looked them over and told me "I'd love to sell you 4 tires, but you really don't need them all replaced. I can't in good conscience sell you the back ones. You only need the front ones, that's all I will sell you." They could have gotten an easy additional sale, but they chose honesty. And I have had this type of honesty on several occasions. That's why, if I have something with my car I think they can help with, they are my first stop before the dealer.
