Having moved from LA to Irvine a couple years ago, it has been hard to find the right place to get a good haircut. Ahmed at Tesoro Salon was finally the right place. For my first cut he asked me what we are doing with my hair and all I could tell him are some trouble spots and that I had no idea anymore. He know what to do, and honestly, most professional should mostly know what to do after a brief chat with you. After trying place after place, spending as much as $100 a cut, I was tired of showing pictures of haircuts only to find out when it was too late that those styles don't really work on my hair. Ahmed got to work and produced a fantastic cut. And, he was able to reproduce it the second time I went just as well. He knows what he is doing and he probably knows what works best for you. My hair needs a skilled person who knows what to do with a pair of scissors. A typical barber who is waiting for a a number to set on their buzzer for the top and the sides has never worked for me. Pros: 1. Ahmed has a great personality and makes great conversation. 2. Haircut was quick (~15 minutes) after waiting ~10 minutes. 3. Salon interior looked modern and well-kept. Cons: 1. The haircut was not what I requested. I showed photos of a swept back look and requested to keep the length on the top and sides with only a minor trim to continue growing the length. Instead, I received a combover and the length on the sides was cut off. 2. For the price ($35), other salons would do a wash before the haircut to remove gel and/or after the haircut to remove hair shavings. However, this was not included at Tesoro. Overall, I'd go again in a pinch for a quick cut but not as my go-to spot. read more

I asked for a trim on my curly hair and then he proceeded to cut everything off. He does not listen and just tries to impress you by saying, "I have experience." I asked for my hair to be left long, I embrace my curles, and told him to leave them eyebrow length. He was so distracted with trying to teach my mom he chopped it all off and left the length the the top of my forehead. I trusted him to do what he needed to do thinking he could deal with a cleaning of my sides and trimming the top, but he could not do that. He did as he saw fit and now I look massacred. Do not recommend, maybe listen rather than flirt. read more
