When the pandemic hit California hard in mid 2020, I had no where to get a haircut as most businesses had shut down and/or gone remote. My hair had been severely outgrown as I had no experience cutting my own. One day, I came across Tesoro Salon on Google. I called to see if Ahmed was taking customers and to my surprise, he was. We abided by the rules and wore masks, and the haircut he provided was astounding. I felt like a new person leaving his salon and have never looked back. Ahmed the Artist.... Had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by a true professional today. Ahmed truly defines what everyone should expect in every barber. I went in with skewed expectations after finding this place on Yelp. I'll admit, the word "salon" threw me off, but after seeing the photos of Ahmed's work I decided to give him a try. Very happy that I did. Location: His shop is located in a small business district adjacent from John Wayne airport. It was easy to find and parking wasn't an issue. Keep in mind that this is a cash only shop. Totally fine by me since I grew up getting my cuts at traditional barber shops that were always cash only. The interior of his place is anything but a traditional barber shop. It has the look and feel of a salon, but the vibe of classic shop. The cut: Ahmed makes you feel at home right away. He REALLY looks at your hair before he cuts it. Something that a lot of people in the industry do not do. After asking all of the right questions he got to work. I elected for a very clean cut with a razor part. I instantly noticed his attention to detail. He keeps all his lines very even and used a razor and clipper to complete my part. Best part I've had yet. You rarely see that now a days. His fade is phenomenal. He utilizes multiple clippers and knocks out strays with shears. That extra time he puts in really makes a difference. I was pretty impressed on how he sheared the top of my trim as well. Very natural cutting style with no aggressive chopping or clipping. Upon finishing, he asked me if I was happy with the result. You can tell that he genuinely wanted to get feedback whether it be good or bad. It goes without saying at this point, but I will return. It's not easy to find someone that wants to do a great job every time they have an opportunity to. Ahmed is happy to work for his customers. His 7 day work week proves that he's loyal to the people that are loyal to him. Do yourself a favor and give him a visit. Thanks again for the fresh cut Ahmed! Update 4/11/17 Back again for another great cut. Still the only guy I trust with a straight razor. Best around. Go see Ahmed today! Update 5/23/17 Came back again today to see Ahmed. Guess you can see that I'm a regular now. A quick call and he always finds a spot for me. I work about 90 hours a week and rarely get a day off, so it's so convenient that I can call someone at an obscure hour and get an appointment. Sometimes with very short notice. I'm staying put. Ripped off!  My husband & I made an appointment to see Ahmed for 8/26 at 4pm. I accompanied him to this appointment so this is my OWN experience. We arrived on time and waited for 60 minutes before being seen. Waiting 15-20 minutes for an appointment is acceptable but 60 minutes??? Mind you this appointment was 4pm and this establishment opens at 4pm on Sundays which means he triple booked his customers.  Furthermore we were overcharged for a haircut by $10.00. The posted price being $25.00. There was no justifiable reason provided. There was no wash prior to the haircut either. We just moved to California from NYC so not sure if that is a normal practice but all barber shop/salons usually wash the client's hair prior to the haircut. So to recap, after waiting 60 minutes with a prior appointment we were overharged for a bad haircut by $10.00. We even tipped the guy $5.00. Why? Because we are geuinely nice people. Total $40.00 for a 10 minute haircut! What a total waste of time! This is an establishment you should definitely avoid. read more
