We were working in the area and searched for a local spot to have lunch. After reading the website, we decided to eat at Texan Diner. Read the reviews on Yelp as well and thought it was a no brainer. Unfortunately when my water arrived there was a small piece of food on the rim of the glass which I pointed out and the server apologized and brought me a new water. When my food arrived I saw what appeared to be a tiny hair, I jokingly told the server that it must not be my day and showed him the hair. I thought it was an eyelash hair but it was actually quite longer as i pulled it out of the food. The server offered to bring me a new dish and that's what happened. I had the creole Benedict! I couldn't decide between that or the meatloaf, one of my favorites if it's made well. The waitress hesitated and finally said the Benedict. Had breakfast here and soo enjoyed it! Great service and looking forward to partaking in their pies for Thanksgiving! That being said, Texan Diner stays true to their scratch made statements. Not only is the food true to Texan taste and flavors but the scratch-made taste is very apparent, down to the fresh cut home fries! We had the Creole Scramble and the Fort Worth Stockyards Omelet both delicious and full of Cajun and smoked tastes, respectively. Looking forward to bringing my kiddos there! Had my wife and son not been as happy with it as they were I would have done 2 stars. Mediocre is what I'd use to describe my experience, both in my lunch and the service. Our wait-person and several of the others did not seem to be any sort of excited or happy to be there. It was a job, ho.hum. There were a couple of people who were interactive and generally good to deal with. Like I said, my lunch was ok, nothing to write home about or return for. Husband and I stopped by here for breakfast, Chrissie took care of us and recommended I try the chorizo Benedict special vs the regular. It was amazing! She told us they make their chorizo in-house. Found this gem after our regular Sunday brunch spot had an hour wait. The staff was very Texas friendly and attentive. Kimberly, our server was right on top of drink refills. I had the Terlingua chili omelette. Just the right amount of heat. The home fries were perfect. My wife had the corned beef hash but it was light on the corned beef hash and come to find out it was the last order of corned beef of the day. They graciously lowered the price of her dish. Our friends had the Migas breakfast and were very happy with their choice. We finished our meals with a slice a pie. Pecan, for us and Pumpkin for our friends. Dropped in on a whim. My wife and I both loved the atmosphere, very clean and bright. The service was on point and our food arrived in a timely manner. Afterwards the chef strolled by and our server was consistent in seeing that we never lacked for anything throughout the meal. I had the Lockhart burger with Onion rings, my wife had the meatloaf with a sides of mashed potatoes and spinach and salad. The onion rings were off the chart!!! My burger was impressive in size and composition and I did consume about half of it. My only criticism is that it did not have a taste of smoke(BBQ) which I really expected to come with the name. I like spicy and was looking for the chopped jalapeños..which to me were just a bit sparse. Meatloaf was melt in your mouth delicious as were the mashed potatoes and spinach! Yum!!!! My husband & I like Texas Diner & have been happy with their food, whether it be in the dining room, or ordering it delivered. However, we ordered breakfast this morning to be delivered & very disappointed. The Monte Cristo & an Eggs Benedict. The Monte Cristo was so soggy it was inedible. The Eggs Benedict was dry. It barely had any hollandaise sauce. The whole point of Eggs Benedict is the Hollandaise sauce. I called them directly to let them know, so they could maybe watch that for the next time. I was very polite to to the lady that answered the phone, and let her know what was wrong with our order. The lady took my name and after I explained, I only got an "ok". I wasn't asking for anything in return (a refund, or anything). But you can't even say "we are sorry that happened", "thanks for the feedback, we will watch more closely", or even a simple "very sorry for that"?? Now I'm just mad. Found this gem while at a conference in Ft. Worth. We were visiting some friends in the area and stumbled on this diner. Mandy served us and was TERRIFIC! She was friendly & competent. I've been to this establishment 3 times and each time the service was lousy. The last time we finally just ended up leaving some money on the table for our drinks and left because the waitress had not been back. One time my son ordered pancakes and they were still gooey in the middle and my French toast had onions on it from where the grill hadn't been properly cleaned! We came here for the first time this morning for breakfast. I ordered the French toast, my boyfriend built his own omelet. The wait wasn't long, the food came out hot and the service was OK. The fresh squeezed orange juice was a plus but I ordered a side of sausage with my French toast because it only came with eggs. When my food came out it was only a single sausage for $3.19. I was surprised, most diners serve breakfast sausage or bacon by twos. Other than that the food was pretty good all the ingredients were fresh, you could see that and taste it as well. Fist impression, I see the realtor lock on the door, they must be SUPER new here to still have that up. Walk in, greeted immediately and sat down with menus. Less than 10 seconds goes by and Ann comes by to tell us about the menu, how the food is freshly made, homemade, about herself, SUPER SWEET girl. We exchanged info on how we are headed out of state, to head back home, and how she wanted to also visit Colorado. Great demeanor, attitude, super cute. She takes our drink order and leaves. She comes back with our coffees and water. She apologizes that they don't have any spoons clean and that she was going to go and find some for our coffees. We tell her it's no biggy, that we can use our forks. We make them up, and the coffee is hot, but not fresh. She apologizes again about the coffee not being fresh, and asks what we want instead. We order an OJ and chocolate milk. YUM!!! The chocolate milk tasted like it was whole milk, thick, it was good!!! The OJ was freshly squeezed, and you CAN tell! We wanted breakfast food, and ask what chicken fried "New York" steak was, and she wasn't really sure how to explain it. So she called over another waitress, Pauline, that gave a slight attitude. Asked "do you even know what chicken fried steak is? I replied with, "yes, I do. But I've never seen "New York" steak on there before". I wanted to make sure it was CFS and not a steak steak. After finding out that they use New York strips, and putting them in a tenderizer to make the CFS, we were sold. THAT, I wanted to try. And so glad I did. The batter was perfect. It wasn't overly cooked at all, it wasn't chewy, the batter wasn't so crispy it looses all texture and hurts your mouth. It was more on the flaky crispy side, instead of crispy hard side. And the gravy had a smoky flavor, SO GOOD! Too bad I don't have a bigger stomach. Taking more than half home with us. My scrambled soft eggs came out more done then I wanted, but the manager, Andrew, was right there checking on food that just came out, asking if everything was ok and to our liking basically. I said the eggs were slightly over cooked, and he left and came back 5 min later with 2 new cooked eggs redone more soft for me and took the old ones away. He came back to check on how they were, and asked us if we had ever been here before. Talked about Denver, said he used to live there and etc. super nice, down to earth, and etc. great guy!! This was my second time to visit Texan Diner and it did not disappoint! Oh, where to begin? The husband and I started with chili cheese fries with Chipotle ranch. Not your mama's chili! There's no ground beef or beans in this chili. Then what, you ask? Tender, melt-in-your-mouth roast with excellent flavor atop house made fries. For dinner I chose the bacon-wrapped ground beef and pork meatloaf with garlic red mashed potatoes and fresh, crisp-tender sautéed green beans and a side salad. The meatloaf was topped with Shiner Bock brown gravy. Can someone get me a bowl and a spoon? The husband had the Creole burger which was ground beef and brisket topped with cheese, andouille sausage and onion straws, lettuce, tomato, thinly sliced red onion and creole mayo on a handmade pretzel bun. He chose the house made potato chips. Excellent choice, my dear! We finished with pie. Yes, also house made. They have a pie lady. She's a genius with the crust and pie innards! I had the pecan pie while the husband had the chocolate cream pie. Both are to die for! Get yourself out to Haslet and have some amazing home-cooked food before you regret it! Our meal at Texan Diner was great! We will be back for sure! Pictured is the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich and the Cheeseburger. We didn't care for the bread listed on the menu for these items so we asked for Texas Toast and they had no problem accommodating our request! Both sandwich and burger were the best we have had in a long time. The onion rings were on point and the French fries were great as well! This is becoming a weekly spot for my family. Finding a place the whole family can agree on is a pretty big deal. I always go for Tex-Mex, my husband is a hard to please meat and potatoes type, and my son is disappointed with anything higher quality than McDonald's chicken nuggets. Thankfully, this place is magic. All 3 of us look forward to dinner here. My 7 year old loves the chicken fingers. My husband gets whatever is on special and always raves. Last night he had the tilapia and last week he tried the prime rib. Both times he cleaned the plate. I tend to go for the chicken fried steak. It's way too much food for me, so I take home half. I love this CFS. It's not gristly like most places, and the breading is exactly the correct amount of crunchy. My absolute favorite part of the meal is the jalapeno cornbread. I hate cornbread, but on our first visit, I was so hungry that I ate it just to put something in my stomach. That was the best decision. This is something bigger than cornbread. It's smooth and melts in your mouth. The servers seem young and might lack a little experience, but their attitude makes up for it. The 3 times we've gone we had 3 different servers, but each of them really took pride in the restaurant. We always receive an adequate amount of attention and have no complaints. If I could change anything, I'd add more variety to the menu. I'm not a huge fan of burgers and sandwiches, and the dinners way too big for one person. I'd love to see smaller portions with side item options. Also, margaritas. frozen ones. I was excited to see Revolver's blood and honey on tap, but sometimes a girl needs a frozen margarita on a Friday night. read more

TexanDiner in Haslet was off our beaten path and proved to be worth the trip! A busy Saturday night found wait staff very busy -- so getting our drink and appetizer order in was a bit slow. The tea was great, but only bottle soft drinks due to a technical issue. Onion Rings were hot and tasty with a crispy batter that suited everyone. a dinner salad was generous and had delicious jalapeno cornbread croutons that were awesome. the homemade bleu cheese dressing was so good we requested a side for fry dipping! The Texas Red Burger had the Chef's ground brisket and chuck hamburger patty topped with cheese, chili and onions -- so luscious our diner ate every bite, not leaving even a drop of chili! The Old Fashioned burgers (we had 2) were equally appreciated. The texture, preparation and quality of the patties score highest marks! To gush over these burgers just a bit more, I'll mention the homemade pretzel buns and just note that they complimented the burgers perfectly. we cannot remember when everyone in our partt ate every bite of their burger -- THANKS! The homemade fries tasted of the best Idaho potatoes -- ours were a bit limp, but to be fair, the place was swamped and we are confident that had we asked, hot crispy twice-fried potates woyld have been right out. Now winning the dessert round was a tough call -- but, the Buttermilk Pie took the prize! The crust was SO yummy and the pie was rich, sweet (not too much so) and had a nice texture. My husband and I came to Texan Diner for breakfast this morning. We came in and were seated immediately, but waited a while to be greeted by our server. (Either they weren't sure who was serving us, or they have a great sense of team spirit - we were waited on by three different ladies for our meal!) While waiting for our server to arrive, I noticed the people sitting behind my husband were upset about something regarding their food...not a good omen. We both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast and didn't wait long for it to come out. However, we were sadly disappointed when it arrived. The gravy was the first thing I tried and it was not good. Everything on our plates was drastically under-seasoned (read: was it seasoned at all?). With some salt and pepper, it tasted better and the quality of the steak was really pretty good. The biscuits, which were highly recommended by our waitress, were really dry. As my husband put it, "they crumble into nothing when you take a bite." While we were eating, the group behind me also had multiple issues with their meal. One woman ordered eggs over-easy; they came out over-cooked. The table also complained about the Ranchero sauce to the point that the chef came to their table and apologized. The woman said, "This is disgusting. You should take it off the menu." We'll probably give it another try, but it might be a while. read more

I can tell you that we've never had a bad experience with the food nor the service, both are always on point. The food is super fresh, and comes from local purveyors. The owners and kitchen staff often roam the dining room double checking that everything was satisfactory. The wait staff is always on point. Prices are more than fair, and competitive with other local cafes that don't offer as much taste or options. Just some faves I can rattle off the top of my head... For breakfast I like the Bayou eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce is SUPERB! I've also had the creole scramble, which was also perfection. The cornbread pancake is delicious. For lunch my favorite go to is the Texan Cobb. Fresh! Delicious! Check. And check. Another lunch fave (I believe also on the dinner menu) is the hamburger steak with shiner gravy. YUM! Dinner- pork chops! Or hamburger steak! Sides are always rotated but I love the creamed corn- definitely my favorite. Also likely the best fried okra I've ever had came from there. Perfect batter, yet not soggy on the inside as okra can get. Beer, beef and cheddar soup is delicious! I find myself making my choice based on the sides of the week. I always plan on getting the salad which doesn't have sides but when I see what it is I always change my mind. Save room for pie! Literally the best buttermilk pie on the planet. It's taken the place of my lifelong love for pecan pie. Updated: I'm sad that Texan is no longer open for dinner. I haven't been since they changed hours, I miss it terribly but I work too far away to have lunch there. read more
