I came to Dr. Khetarpal about a year and a half ago with complications of polyps in my nose . Dr. Kheterpal completed a surgical procedure to have my polyps removed early last year and since then I've been able to breathe and smell completely. If I could recommend any doctor, he would definitely be my first choice. His bedside manner his knowledge on different medications and information regarding allergies is beyond amazing. I was definitely a difficult case, but he did not give up and I thank him so much. Also shout out to his medical team, Kay for working so hard to ensure the problem got solved as well. You don't find many doctors like Dr. Khetarpal anymore.

My first visit he did the scope and then recommended allergy shots and a cat-scan. Dr.Khetarpal explained immediately after the scan I needed surgery. I was scheduled two weeks later and it changed my life! My nose was not packed and I had very little bleeding and swelling. I instantly felt the pressure in my head was gone, my vision improved and no more ear ache! From our first visit, I felt the physician's bedside manner was lacking. He spent very little time with my daughter, and nearly all communication, including the preoperative instructions and answering questions was handled by the nursing staff. As a parent, I expect the surgeon performing my child's procedure to be available to discuss concerns and explain the plan of care. That did not happen. Our biggest concern came during the preoperative appointment when we were told that, after surgery, the only pain medication recommended would be over-the-counter Tylenol. I expressed that I was worried this would not provide adequate pain control and that effective pain management is essential to helping children stay hydrated, eat, and recover successfully after a tonsillectomy. The response was that my daughter would receive a lollipop to help numb her throat, but we were instructed not to use ibuprofen because of the potential increased risk of bleeding. When I mentioned that several families I know were instructed by their ENT specialists to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen after surgery, I was told that this office follows its own policy regardless of what other physicians recommend. I was also concerned that the procedure was scheduled at an outpatient surgical center rather than discussing whether a children's hospital might be a more appropriate setting for a pediatric patient. I do not question the surgeon's technical ability or surgical skill. However, I believe postoperative planning and communication are just as important as the procedure itself. As a parent, I left feeling that my concerns were dismissed and that I was not adequately prepared to help my daughter through a successful recovery. For those reasons, we chose to cancel the surgery and seek a second opinion.

Time after time minor ER doctors just prescribed nasal sprays and antibiotics which did absolutely nothing but offer temporary relief. It wasn't until I was referred to Dr. Nicolau that my life completely changed. I immediately felt the genuine care and passion she has for her patients. She was incredibly warm and caring. CT results showed I had a deviated septum and polyps all throughout my sinuses. Surgery was recommended. Although I was incredibly nervous, I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Nicolau performed my 3 hour surgery 18 months ago and I can honestly say my life has completely changed. I have not experienced one sinus infection since! Dr. Nicolau was the only doctor who truly took the time to diagnose the real issues I had. I refer friends and people to her any chance I get. I can not sing her praises enough. It took an hour and 10 minutes after to see the doctor. Dr. Douglis wanted to have a CT scan done on a 14 year old without life threatening injuries. This caused alarm in us because of the radiation concerns. Dr. Douglis's response was to google it again... Our concerns are valid and he certainly could have handled it in a much more professional way. The reality is NIH research shows that CT scans have added about 103,000 future cancer patients. "Using the UCSF registry data on individual CT exams and RadRAT, the team estimated that CT use in 2023 could result in almost 103,000 future cancers. If current practices continue, CT scan use might eventually account for about 5% of all new cancer diagnoses in the U.S. per year." https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/radiation-ct-scans-cancer-risks On top of all of this, the office smelled, and was generally dirty. He ran a series of tests because if I were to get a procedure, he wanted to knock out all the issues at once. This included an allergy test, a scan to look at my sinuses and checked for deviated septum. The surgery ended up being for deviated septum and trimming down my turbinates. The surgical team and office staff gave me amazing instructions and were super nice. While the stints were annoying, I had very little IF any pain. Healing was a breeze. My post surgery check ups were with Tammie and she ensured I was doing everything right for fast healing. I don't remember the last time I could breathe this amazing and it makes being more active so easy now that I can breathe properly. If I had anything happen where I needed surgery again, 100% would do this again with this team.
