Super slow service and WAY overpriced drinks. I believe these are the worst bar staff in Cochrane. Have seen the bar staff be rude to patrons and have seen situations where they arbitrarily ban people they do not like (beware crossing Brittany or Shawn, overlords of a crap bar!) and create bogus reasons for the bans perpetuity, even after being caught in a lie. Observed over serving drunk patrons. The bar owner decided he doesn't care because he owns other bars in Calgary. The owner is not local and let the staff do whatever they want because they do not come out to see what they are doing. Like the environment, its okay for a dive bar... do not like the staff and will NOT go into this establishment unless they get rid of the poor staffing. I would visit ANY location in Cochrane besides this place, there are WAY better options with lower pricing and staff that actually care and pay attention. Fun place with a unique decoration inside and out. I came to this place 3 times and I enjoyed the times. They have special back ribs with a lot of different sauces with special price as well. I really liked it. The service was good, the waitress was so nice and friendly. Even I was craving for a Manhattan drink, she said they don't have on the menu but she knew how to make it and she made it happen.. good points!!! The first time when I came there I had brunch.. the egg Benny was good and coffee is coffee, right? But yesterday when I got the steak.. holly Molly that one was goood ... Wonderfully delicious food with large portions. Staff is friendly, efficient and professional. If we had been in town longer we would have gone back. I had the stuffed Yoruba which were delicious and filling. The coconut cream pie was the best I have ever eaten. read more

I love this hotel and the restaurant and bar, it's become a second home in fact. The staff are amazing, it's exactly what you want from a local pub where everyone knows your name and is friendly but not too friendly. Plus they have free pool billiards on Sundays. Actually I'm feeling really stupid I probably shouldn't post this because I don't want it to get more popular than it is. I just wanted to say thank you to the hotel and the staff especially the incredible waitress Jackie, they are all fabulous. read more

First of all the place itself is absolutely awesome. Texas Gate is more of a bar but they have a dining room attached and a hotel. The building is historical with all the wood and floor creaks to impress any historian. We also stayed to the hotel (Rockyview Hotel) and highly recommend. Ok not to the food. The food was pretty average. One item that stood out though was the wings. You have to get the wings. Perhaps had a bit too much sauce but the wings were cooking perfectly. We had the non breaded ones. For our entrees hubby had the steak sandwich and I had the fish n chips. The taste on the steak was great but way over done. He asked for med rare and got almost well done. Fries were excellent. For the fish I wouldn't recommend it. The batter was good and then but the fish was over cooked. We also went for breakfast the next day. I had the classic eggs Bennie and hubby had the tuna sandwich. Tuna sandwich was good. Recommend. The eggs Bennie were ok. Unfortunately the eggs were cooked too long. I asked for med and they were hard. Sauce was ok but not homemade. Hash browns can with and they were good. That all being said the service was outstanding. These guys are so friendly and awesome that you'll have a great time while here and the historical ambiance is pretty cool!! read more

We've eaten here about a dozen times (breakfasts & lunches) since moving rurally west of Cochrane a year ago. We find the prices fair and the daily specials are a very good deal. The servers are are always on the ball, movIng quickly being attentive to all patrons. And at the same time the servers seemed relaxed, and very friendly. When we leave we have always been thanked for coming in by more than one person. (We sit in the bar side, love the casual relaxed atmosphere) The food has always been good. I especially like their homemade soups, hubby likes their homemade pies. Today we had open faced prime rib sandwiches, it had a nice thick slice of tender, flavourful meat. We will definitely go back, hopefully next time for the prime rib dinner special. read more

This business is 3 in 1. They have a hotel upstairs, and the ground level is divided into a bar and a restaurant. This review is for the restaurant (Texas Gate Grill). I've lived in Cochrane for a couple of years and can say the town does not have a lot of breakfast options. In my opinion, this is the best one. Choice, quality and taste are all there. They also have the best ambiance located in a historic building with nice historic touches (authentic or not) such as the tin ceiling, pot belly stove, piano, and antique looking furniture. Recently changed the menu design to complement the old country feel. In the summer they have a decent outdoor patio as well. My only beef with breakfast is that they don't provide hot sauce (they have Tabasco, but I'm a firm believer Tabasco goes in food while it's cooking...not after it's prepared). Coffee is usually good and generous glasses of good tasting water. Definitely worth a visit if you love a restaurant that provides a "good home cooked breakfast." read more

I tried the all day breakfast here, and let me just say that you can't beat their prices. Bacon and eggs for dirt cheap and friendly service. I didn't even look at the rest of the menu, so I can't say much else about the place. Clean and friendly though, and honouring it's old Ranch house look. read more

First time visiting this week and sad to say I won't be back. The food was delicious but the service was so poor in the middle of the afternoon I would hate to see it busy. The servers were more concerned about gossiping at the bar than clearing the dirty plates off of the tables or making sure that we were satisfied with the food and drinks. Proper bar food. I have always loved that they keep their prices reasonable. The perfect cheap breakfast from here is the $4 breakfast which comes with toast, a couple of eggs, bacon or sausage and hashbrowns. Perfect to sit out on the patio in warm weather but the entire hotel needs some upgrading as it looks dated and is falling apart on the patio side. This may be different this summer as they recently repainted the entire outside black. Cannot wait to eat here again. read more

Waited 55 minutes for food when the restaurant was almost empty. Our meals came and we were shocked: the open-faced sandwich consisted of two slices of white Wonder bread, topped with two slices of processed turkey, and absolutely smothered in a bright-green "turkey gravy". French onion soup was lukewarm and inexplicably gelatinous with no cheese (we inquired and we're informed there was no ground cheese available?). Will not be back. read more

Absolutely average, not worth trying. The "authentic" salon style is outdated decor from the 70s, service is very average, food is just okay-steak was overdone, gravy on the cold side, vegetables are plain boiled, no flavour. Will not come again. read more

I've been going the Gate off and on for a few years and I can't remember having bad service no matter the time of day. The selection of beer on tap is impressive, the food is pub fair (that's why it's not 5 stars) but the service is the best part and is the part that'll keep me stopping by. At first it seemed like an alright place, if a bit dingy. Ultimately, my partner and I experienced a variety of symptoms after eating their ribs. The ribs arrived Luke warm, clearly not having been cooked recently and were mainly fat. I would not recommend their ribs...as they left us with what I can only assume is food poisoning. Absolutely ruined our night. Clearly there is a reason the food was offered so cheap. read more
