This was my first time here and I'll definitely be back. The staff were nice, there was lots of seating, and it's self service style. The burger was HUGE and came stuffed. I got the hamburger with grilled onions which was good but my favorite was the mushroom swiss burger as it was packed with flavor. Also got a side of fresh cut fries and onion rings. The fries were fine but not my fav since they became soggy fast. As for the onion ring, they were nice and crispy. All the food came out hot and fresh! Very delicious, fresh and old school style. Most private places are terrible for burgers in and outside the city, bc the meat is either bland with no seasoning or just passable. The buns were soft and the meat was well-seasoned, juicy and grilled well. The tomatoes were thick and refreshing. When a burger only needs one or two toppings like this and still be great, it's a solid burger. Most places need to cover it up with a bunch of stuff to compensate for the meat lacking, except TX Hamburger Palace, Goode Company Hamburgers, Niko Niko's and JLB on Stella Link who nail it right. Texas Hamburger Palace is another one of those off the beaten path, underrated places. Surprisingly it has been around for 30 plus years. They have to be doing something right to stay open that long in a city with so much competition. The location is situated in an old strip center. We came on a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait to order. The menu has quite a few selections to satisfy anyone's taste buds. The owner was present and very nice as was his staff. Like I do at most places on my first visit, I ordered a regular cheeseburger with fries. It came with the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, mayo and mustard. We received our order not too long after and just by sight alone I knew it was going to be delicious. The ratio of meat to bun and veggies was spot on. The bun itself was nice and soft and held up to all the toppings. If I had to gripe about anything, I would just want thinner slices of onions. The fries were slightly warm, but there was a huge group who ordered ahead of me so I assume they just made a huge batch and I got the one that were sitting there. Not a deal breaker for me as the burger was outstanding. We had jalapeno poppers to share and they were piping hot and delicious. I will definitely be back in the area. It's really important so I know whether to order a single or double patty. (It's a pet peeve of mine when they don't know. Years ago I would go to a hamburger joint over on on Ranchester at Harwin, call Texas Hamburger Palace. It was great, plus it was family owned and operated. Yesterday I was in meeting at one of the office building along BW-8 and Westpark and decided to see if they were still there. Yep, they were still operating, nothing had changed since I was there last sometime in the mid-late 90's. The neighborhood was about the same, still a bit sketchy. The have one of the best cheeseburgers in town!! It's not one of those fancy "NOUVO" burgers you find these days topped with "UN-BURGER" toppings; just traditional American Burgers! While I did add bacon and jalapenos to my cheeseburger, I guess that was a stray from "plain". The burgers have a great patty off the flat-top (not grilled), a couple of huge fresh tomato slice, just enough lettuce, onions, and pickles, with a bun that's been on the flat-top just long enough to get some flavor and warm it up. Fries are FANTAISTIC, they are fresh cut potatoes with skins on, fried when you place your order, and not fried to death like the fast food places. IF you like McDonald's skinny fries with no soft centers, you might not like these, but if you like homestyle fries, you're in luck. Onion rings, don't really come out as "rings", but are excellent as well. AND it won't break the bank. You can get cheese burger, fries and a drink for around ten bucks. read more
