I've been going to Texas lunch for 60 years. It's a Port Jervis staple.! a kid it was the only hotdog I would eat.

The loaded fries were really good but the cheese was really goopy and got cold to fast. The service was a little bit slow. The place was clean. The burger was good but it was small. The onion rings were okay but I've had better. read more

You have to like this kind of food. Being from NNJ, "grill food" was always a staple. Their burgers are excellent with sauce and bacon as are their chili dogs. I also love their shakes. read more

The place is nice, people seem friendly, but the person that took my order never asked if it was to stay or go just assumed it was to go which is no big deal just giving a full review but what I was most unhappy about and very disappointed was about the food I ordered chili dogs all the way and was very disappointed the sauce was like soup not much chili in the sauce just very little onions and so little beans you could count them they didn't even put any mustard or ketchup on it. I really wanted to like this place on my first visit. My grandfather came here regularly and knew the original owners (from the same village in Greece). But how could I when this is what I got? Burned onion rings (although probably good if not burned) and a Texas hot dog that barely had sauce and was completely sad looking. There were only two other tables of people there when we went post lunch hour on a Tuesday. So being busy wasn't an excuse. I didn't feel confident in the cleanliness of the place either. And charged extra if using a credit card. We might try again if we visit the area again. But they have some work at convincing me next time. read more

This is worth the less than 2 miles off the highway. The map took us through a a bit of rough part of town. The interior is old school booths and stool countertops. Very clean. Waitress was very nice. Menu was short and sweet. Burgers and dogs. Fries, o rings, milkshakes. We had it all and it was fresh and cooked well. Fries are coated crispy. Burgers are real beef, cheese, bacon, etc. if you opt for everything....it is just the burger and a "Texas" sauce.....which is thin chili with lots of onions. VERY TASTY! Had a float....real ice cream and no skimping! We left full and happy. Thank you! Yelp put a 10% off check in coupon for this business with out telling them. They honored it with no issue. I have passed by this place for almost five years and figured if it still open, must be okay, First off, I had to use the restroom and wash my hands, it was clean and stocked with tissue, soap and towels which is a big plus. You sit in a booth and the gal comes and takes your order. She brings you the drinks quickly. The menu is very basic and don't come to Texas Lunch if you are on a diet, no salads on the menu. We ordered the cheese steaks which are served on hot dog buns and they were very tasty. The sweet potato fries were excellent and the onion rings were very good. You'll get a sort of time travel feeling, entering the place, with an original Pac-Mac machine. Very nice staff, and delicious shakes. The prices are quite fair, but the food is not very exciting. If and when the staff should need their smoking break, they should strongly consider not standing right outside the open windows to the place. read more

I am quite surprised how many 5 star ratings there are for this place. I guess they have never had a real texas dog from NJ's Goffle Grill, Ruts Hut, Hot Grill, Johnny & Hanges or Clixies. First the hot dogs are not good. They taste like cheap turkey dogs. They look like they were boiled although they grill them. A real texas dog is a good quality hot dog like Thumann's and they are deep fried, not grilled for a few minutes. Second the sauce is really not good - it's very bland and flavor-less. I had to add some salt and it still didn't taste good. The prices where not bad, what I would expect at a hot dog joint...I just wish the quality was better. Fries weren't bad but they aren't really hard to mess up. Place was clean, server was nice. I suggest to the owner he take a drive to NJ to visit one of the places I mentioned above and try an "all the way" dog at each place. I have yet to find a good "all the way" texas dog in PA. The hot dogs and hamburgers here are some of my favorite and the chili sauce is amazing.

The sauce was a little different that's because the waitresses added stuff to it.so the sauce will probably be different every time you go. the reason I know this because the waitresses were talking about it. Spent $20 on a hamburger,hot dog,t fries and two drinks a little expensive in my book. The food felt kind of cheap to me. Why can't the cook use fresh ingredients like potatoes and make his own hamburger patties. read more

Texas Lunch is a PJ institution. The new owners have done an excellent job of restoring TLHD to its former glory. Get a dog with everything--Texas sauce is mandatory. Don't forget a Birch Beer to wash it down! Also, ask the wait staff about the amazing t-shirts. read more
