We stopped last Monday and got the chop barbecue sandwich and was amazing.

I love their twice baked potato salad. The staff is always more than friendly. Their pulled pork is also delicious

If their pictures actually look like the food that they served they probably be a hell of a lot busier than only having eight people in there at 7 o'clock on a Friday night for one they're loaded fries they put it in a container on a piece of parchment paper so the paper gets soggy so when you stick your fork in to get some of your fries and brisket and everything else you pull the paper up and eat that why would you put paper underneath a cheese sauce and french fries and brisket.. the best thing was the onion also the TX cheese steak, where was the cheese, cause I wasn't on my sandwich... ‍ read more

Stopped in for our first visit at this location. The SmokedChicken Plate had a half chicken dinner, at a reasonable price, My wife had the Brisket sandwich, both were excellent, Central Texas quality flavors. Their sauce was excellent, good for the beef & chicken as well. Their sides were great the potato salad, their frozen okra, & Baked beans were all cooked perfectly all above par. The portions were good as we took home what we couldn't eat. BTW their tea was fresh. Sorry I thought I took pics but didn't find them on my phone, My Bad. The Pit Stop in Galveston is just as good, also with good service. Will definitely return on subsequent visits to Galveston. read more

Like so many other places, you read the reviews, you try the food. OK one time, but never never again. See, I like my brisket sort of well done and dry..usually, there is an outer part that meets the desires. Not at this place. Its all sort of wet and limp. And all those trophies..really..from "Fun Fest". What on earth is Fun Fest and why do they give huge trophies for lousy food. I was uncertain about getting the chopped beef vs the sliced..get the chopped...or don't go. The sides were..so so...nothing special. Here was what really got me..it says.."if you order sliced beef...we won't give you bread...seriously? What do you say you "sell" me bread..ok why put up a stinking sign. The brisket isn't cheap..you can't afford a slice of bread? Nope, one and done. Can't recommend it. Really wish I could. Asked for desert..big sign..nope..all out of "bread pudding". Previously this summer I nearly broke my neck driving up the Gulf Freeway tyring to look backwards when I spotted the stacks of wood in the back. I did a little research. The roots of the joint stems from competition. The owner Arnold Garza was head cook for the Los Vaqueros cook team. Judging by all the trophies on display, Los Vaqueros did very well. They opened in 2011. I scored Texas Pit Stop BBQ a 92 out of 100. This is Grand Champion Texas BBQ. Viva Los Vaqueros! Smoke: Hickory, stacks and stacks of hickory. Two big black wood fired Olyers located behind the restaurant. Houston, we have wood fired bbq. Brisket: Super Excellent! Words come up short to describe the brisket, but I will do my best. A great big bright red 5/16in smoke ring underneath a rich thick black bark. Perfect pull apart tenderness. A fork pushed through it like butter. Bark had rub and full smoke flavor. Fat and meat were silky and smokey. No sauce needed at all, don't do it! Folks, people stand in line for hours (yours truely) to eat brisket like this. Ribs: Good. Tender but not tough of tender thin St Louis ribs. First thing you notice is the red glaze. It looks as sweet as it tastes. A glaze done with perfection; you will lick your fingers. Decent smoke but but the glaze is the what makes these ribs stand out. No sauce needed. Sausage: Very Good. A great traditional spice beef sausage with great after taste. Big and thick slices. Casing was snappy. No sauce needed. Sauce: Good. A traditional thick dark red sweet tangy Kansas City style bbq sauce. They serve a spicy sauce but it was more tangy than spicy. It took me a while to come here, even with living so close to the place. After living in Austin for years my standards for BBQ are pretty high now. The place looks like it used to be a garage or storage of some sorts, but it looks pretty neat and 'Texafied' inside. The first thing you notice is the huge display of trophies staring right across the place. They are a plenty. I came here around 5:ish in the afternoon and the place was pretty bare, but it picked up an hour later. When my friend and I got there we had the intention of grabbing to go (we had groceries in the car). I was then surprised to learn they had a full bar... needless to say we stopped by the house to unpack groceries and came right back to dine in. The servers there were pretty friendly and sociable. I was in a loaded potato mood so I got that with chopped beef and a side of green beans while my friend ordered the brisket plate. We both ordered margaritas. My chopped beef potato was good. I would say they gave me a good amount of meat. And I love that it's not swimming in bbq sauce so I have the option to add that on should I choose. I would say I prefer their loaded potato to the one at Pappa's BBQ. And it's cheaper. Speaking of sauce, I personally love their bbq sauce. Tangy, not too sweet or vinegary, just right. But what they call "spicy" isn't really. The greens beans I looooooved. Flavorful and well seasoned. Those were the first to disappear. AND they have a pretty decent margarita to boot. I would come here again just to have margaritas with a few friends. I was surprised to see they had boudin balls on the menu. I want to come back and try that. I wasn't able to try my friend's brisket so i can't comment on that, but the chopped beef is solid, and they're hand cut fries are good too. Oh yes. They have bread pudding with rum sauce my friend loved. I was digging the rum sauce. Overall I would say this place exceeded my expectations, which is why I will give them 4 out of 5 stars. They are doing everything right: friendly service, reasonably priced, decent bbq, good margaritas, and good sides. It's not a place I would go out of my way for if I lived far away, But if it's close by for you, you'll be very glad it's there. read more

Pit Stop has been my favorite BBQ for many, many years. I found them by accident years ago and have been a loyal and frequent customer ever since. There was a reason their dining room is filled with trophies. The BBQ was outstanding and the service was always perfect. A friendly, family owned restaurant. One of the few that were still around. But I can't allow myself to go back. We went there last week and ordered a chop beef sandwich, no sides. A three meat plate (ribs no longer allowed) so double brisket portion and sausage, one drink and a bread pudding.. $50.00. I'll say it again, $50.00. The most I have ever spent in there for two people was $34.00 and ordering more food than we got this time. Service was terrible. We seemed to be a distraction to them, and we were the only customers there. I had to go back to the register and get my bread pudding. Portions on the three meat plate were very small, brisket dry and bland, sausage ok. Sides were ok but not as good as before. I asked for extra pickles and jalapenos. Nope, had to go back to the register for more.. Again, I have been a loyal customer to Pit Stop for many years. But when I noticed the Garza family no longer behind the counter (they were always there), things slowly began to not be as good. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This place was vile. The buns were stale, the baked beans were runny, we waited 10 minutes on fries, (our sandwiches were cold by the time they came to the table) and no BBQ sauce on the tables. BUT, the ultimate stupidity was ordering the rib sandwich. When we got it, it was literally 3 small "bone in" riblets on a hamburger bun. I mean, who does this? WOW. Are we suppose to eat around the bones in a sandwich? $23 for two people at lunch (with water for drink) is a little pricey. Service was horrible. I guess everyone has different taste but I expected good ol homemade tater salad and Texas bbq. I didn't get that here. Tater Salad was some kind of Cajun recipe I think but it's not good. And the bbq is ok but not the best I've had. But the people there are nice so that gives them one more star instead of a 3. Please get better tater salad. read more

This is my 3rd and final trip to this place. Got a pound of chopped beef and a pint of coleslaw. Get home and open the coleslaw to find it totally limp and rotting. Called and was told it was just made. BS, coleslaw is not soggy nor soft when you first make it. It smells like slimy carrots. Gonna call the health department too. read more

New to the area for 3 weeks thus far, we've tried 3 bbq restaurants thus far & hands down, the Texas Pit Stop Texas City Mall of the Mainland location wins. In fact, I've had a rib plate & my roommate the chopped beef sandwich 6 times, would have been 8 if they didn't close so early. That's an average of $50 a meal with sides. HOWEVER, it cost a $1 to save them from having to have an employee to answer the phone to take a togo order, by ordering online, then it discretely adds a tip that you really have to watch out for to adjust before checking out. And, when I ordered pickup online via my phone on July 11th, my order was charged a 20% tip, $9.59 on top of the $1 online order fee for me to save them time on the phone, drive to the restaurant, & get out in the heat to pick up an order with no special requests! I may have missed the discrete adding of the tip, but honestly didn't see a choice to change it or opt out on my phone. When I called immediately upon the new total showing what was being charged to my card, the girl that answered the phone at the restaurant said that I would have to contact the online service they used to get the tip taken off, but had no idea of who or what that service was or how to contact them. I would have been happy if the restuarant had given me a gift card for the tip amount for future use, but no such offer; in fact, the girl on the phone was totally unconcerned. So, now I will have to get my bank involved & will never provide them with the convienence of an online order again. The unresolved issue is why I took 3 stars off of what would have been a 5 star rating, to hopefully save others from the same sneaky expense. read more

So Friday I placed order to go for my husband to take him lunch at 315 because he was to busy to leave. I picked up order took it to his job and had wrong order so I went back and as I was walking through door worker says I know I know you got wrong order do you have the potato? I will give you the right order but you have to give it back (was she going to eat it? Seriously?) I had no problem with that I had forgot it in my car so we swapped and low and behold I got back to my destination again and of coarse it was wrong for the 2nd time!
