My friend and I stopped by here one night after a long day of fishing. We both smelled horrible…read moreand were dressed like idiots. It was 30 minutes before closing on a slow Thursday night. Having worked in restaurants before, I'm a bit more sensitive towards restaurant workers needing to break down, clean up, close down, and go home. I'm never one to go in five minutes to closing and order a meal. My buddy says, "They're open, let's get some food." "They look like they're getting ready to close. No customers. No wait, they look like they're still cooking. Let's see what they got." We went in and were greated like long lost family. They were so nice and welcoming. We ordered gyros and rice to go. The food was fantastic! Everything cooked perfectly. Definitely going back.

Ok so ugh I really wanted to like this place but it just disappointed on so many levels…read more 1. Both my gf and I got the chicken shawarma pasta which was presented beautifully but lacked so much flavor. It didn't taste salted and it was almost too small of a portion size considering how much we paid for it. 2. The falafel we got came in 3 and it was so expensive, dried out and unseasoned. Like I'm so serious it taste like nothing- no salt, no cumin, nothing. The pickled veggies it came on were delicious though I will say maybe even the best but the falafel felt so flat. 3. We got tiramisu and baklava as dessert and our desserts were mostly frozen. Gross. The tiramisu lacked flavor and the baklava was way too dense but kinda soggy at the same time. 4. The pita was so tough to eat super chewy. 5. The hummus was just alright. 6. Our food did come super quickly- we ordered through DoorDash!

Opened this summer, Mr. Taco is Texas City's newest Mexican eatery. It's located about a block away…read morefrom the fairly busy Palmer Highway, which makes it a little hard to spot. But once you arrive, you're in for a real culinary trip south of the border. I dropped in very eager to try one of their taco plates. While the pictures on the restaurant's Facebook page had already piqued my appetite, I wanted to see for myself if they were the real deal. So, for my first meal here, I ordered the Pastor Street Tacos. Like at any good Mexican restaurant, my meal began with chips and salsa. It's an unwritten rule of mine that if the complimentary chips and salsa are good, the main dishes will be just as good, if not better. Fortunately, that rule holds true for Mr. Taco. I tried both the red and green salsas, which were truly spicy--a definite plus in my book. The tacos arrived after a few minutes. While the menu said they were miniature--there were four in total--they were a perfect portion. Anchored by marinated pork and topped with fresh onions and cilantro on corn tortillas, the tacos were accompanied by a bean-filled consomme and rice. With just one bite, I imagined myself on the streets of Guadalajara or Monterey; the authenticity was simply evident. I occasionally dipped the tacos in the consomme, which I could describe as a bit earthy and salty. Overall, the meal was incredibly enjoyable. This dish is a prime candidate for a go-to order on a return visit. I was very well taken care of by our waiter, Samuel. The meal's spiciness had me quickly finishing my water, but he kept the glasses coming without me having to ask. While working on the meal, I was parked in front of one of the business's massive TVs, which were tuned to the Astros game. That said, I consider Mr. Taco an ideal place to catch a game. It helps that it's open until 10 p.m.--or 2 a.m. on the weekends--though a staff member told me that's assuming they're not having a slow night. Price-wise, I'd say the costs are quite fair. My platter was about $13, which would be roughly three dollars more elsewhere.

We had queso, birria tacos, and carnitas - all of the food was fresh and had great flavor. The ambience itself is great - and would make a great happy hour or dinner spot! This is a little gem that the community needs to support!

Clean restaurant, nice atmosphere. Service was just OK. When I walked in I stated hello to the…read moreserver, waiting for a response from her and after a few awkward seconds of looking at me she finally stated, how many? Really, that was my welcome? The restaurant had a few customers for the early Saturday morning. I was sat at a table that was very wobbly. The server had to notice because she moved the table around before seating me. Really, all these empty tables and you sit me at the wobbly one. I ordered a hot tea and ice water. The water for the tea tasted like it came from the coffee pot. Restaurants need to learn not to use the same pot for hot water that is used for coffee. I get bad indigestion if I drink any amount of coffee. So much so I now state I am allergic to coffee. So restaurants, please stop mixing the pots without doing a deep cleaning. I also ordered "The Southerner". It has 2 sausage patties, 2 eggs over medium served on a split biscuit, covered with sausage gravy and a side of grits. I requested the gravy to be on the side. The eggs were cooked great, sausage patties also great. The biscuit they were on had an odd taste. Didn't taste like the biscuits were baked, maybe fried? That would probably explain the biscuit being tough. The sausage gravy was not good. The gravy was thin/runny with cut up pieces of the sausage patties, but it lacked the sausage flavor. The grits were also very soupy. I had pushed my full cup of hot tea to the edge of the table, the server either didn't notice or just didn't care. I was only asked once if I was needing anything else, and since she didn't ask about my full cup of tea, I wasn't going to say anything. When she came over to the table she asked if I needed anything, I stated No, I am done. She asked if I wanted my check, and I paid my tab. They do advertise Bloody Mary's and other breakfast cocktails but I didn't have any of those. The location is good, area outside for the kids to run and play. Seating outside also to watch the kids. I think I would only return to this place if I am invited out to brunch with my group of friends. Otherwise, would be a long while before I return, being hopeful things have improved.

They have an incredible selection of Bloody Mary's and they can even be customized with tons of toppings. I stuck with water this go around but ordered the Grown Up Grilled Cheese with fries. The toast was perfectly toasted and the ingredients on the grilled cheese made for a perfect brunch sandwich. Fries were super crispy and yummy too. This is a great spot for anyone who enjoys a good local spot with fresh menu options for sweet or savory preferences. Great atmosphere and nicely decorated. Highly recommend. Only reason for 4 stars is the wait staff was a bit all over the place but I'm sure it was just them trying to remain on top of providing a quick brunch service.
