I will show mad love to Texas Reds Steakhouse because this is what we have been wanting since we arrived in New Mexico!! Flavor, seasoning and something other than Mexican food! lol. Don't get me wrong, we love Mexican food, but nothing can beat our TexMex! Beware they are open 7 days a week for the holidays until 5 Jan. They open at 4:30. When you come in, it's beautifully decorated for Christmas! They have a fire burning where you can wait and not definitely had a rustic feel to it! They sat us next to the fire which was really nice for it being cold outside. Our server was very attentive, nice and knowledgeable. The menus were pretty spiffy too as it looked like an old newspaper clipping! They had a variety of steak and also had different animal options like elk & bison. The prices were a bit steep but given the quality and how well they executed the meal, I would say it was well worth it! You are offered a pretzel like bread with butter while ordering. Our waiter was on it and he continued to fill our drinks before we could even ask for more! What we ordered: - Bison ribeye (medium+): this was a gem! If you've never had bison before, don't get scared! It tastes just like cow only it's better for you! The cook was perfection and the seasoning on point! My 13 year old ordered it and devoured it! He had initially asked for A1 sauce but because it was flavored so well, opted not to use it. He said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had! - Ground Elks (medium) w/ chile and grilled onions: it comes dry but our waiter suggested adding green chile and onions to it (beware that's an $11 up charge). It was flavored well, cooked well and tasted amazing. My husband never had elk and said it was really good. Tasted just like ground beef with just a hint of something different. - 12 oz New York sirloin (medium): cooked to perfection, seasoned perfectly and topped it with a garlic/butter compound. My daughter, who rarely eats anything more than a 3oz, ate more than half because she liked it that much. - 10oz ribeye (medium): cooked and flavored to perfection again!! On top of that, it was so tender and melted like butter in my mouth! It was so smooth, and just an amazing quality I hadn't had in such a long time. While ribeye comes fatty, this was utter perfection! I typically only eat about 4-5 oz, but ate the entire thing! If we decide to come back to this area, we will definitely stop here! Quite an underwhelming restaurant that charges more than the other surrounding spots. The interior looked cool and they had a live guitar player to match the vibes. The service was kind of bad where our waitress was not very helpful and all of the steaks in the table were temps below warm. The steak I had was a bit undercooked and was the coldest of them all. The butter on top did not even come close to melting. We sent our steak back to the kitchen to get reheated, which is something I never do. The reheated steak was just a bit better, and they forget to add the butter in it. At this point we should have just had a brand new steak. The added quail on the plate was a bit overcooked. I heard a lot of good things about this place and was excited to try it. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. First, our server was miserable. She was cold and not friendly, not very helpful, and a bit rude. Maybe it was just a bad day for her, but very off-putting before we even got any food. For food, I ordered a New York strip, medium rare. I was hopeful that the steak would be a show stopper, but it arrived at room temperature. Seemed like it was sitting out for a while or something. It wasn't "cold", but it certainly wasn't hot. It was cooked fine, and tested okay, but if I'm paying this price for a steak, I want it hot and a good cut of meat. This one also had a lot of fatty parts in it. We got the side of the day, which was broccoli. I thought it would be seasoned or charred or something, but it was just bland, boiled broccoli with no taste. A bit disappointing. They were out of a couple apps that I tried to order, so didn't get to try any of those. The live music was nice, and added to the atmosphere. We were really excited to have a dinner here. We have a larger group of 8 people and it's off season so it's a little slower so we had no problem getting a table (surprisingly). I will cut to the chase and list the biggest issue we had during the dinner. The service. The server we had never told us her name and the whole interaction felt like she'd rather be elsewhere but helping us. Somebody at the party tried to say something funny to lighten the mood and break the ice but it wasn't reciprocated. The bottle of vine arrived to the table pre-opened and we had to pour our own glasses. To be honest, this is the first time in my experience. In every restaurant I've dined at AND worked at, the bottle is always opened table-side and the first glasses are poured by a server. An item somebody from our party ordered ran out and they never got offered anything as an alternative, when they made a selection themselves, it turned out that it was also unavailable. Our entree (buffalo ribeye) came out cold both in the center and the outside.The quail was nice and hot. We let our server know about it, but the whole interactions was very short and dry. I don't think it would hurt to say "I'm sorry, let me fix that for you." When it returned back to us, the quail was cold. At that point I didn't say anything because we already waited for a while. The steak was pretty plain and they didn't bring butter with it after up-cook. The annoying part about it is that there's an automatic gratuity of 20% regardless, because of a large party. However, the service we received, sadly, was not worth 20% of the bill. The way the check arrives is also very outdated. I don't know the reason for it but it doesn't help, really, as it's hard to read what was ordered and no breakdown of the drinks ordered -- just the total amount. The good things I have to say is: life music was really nice and the waiting area was nicely decorated. I've heard from several people to give Texas Reds Steakhouse a try. My group and I were excited to give this place a try. The steakhouse was fairly busy when we arrived on a Thursday evening. They had live music. Very lovely songs played throughout our meal. Ambiance: The interior of the restaurant is very rustic and full of historic photos and relics. Service: Our server was neither friendly nor helpful. She looked like she hated her job and could not be bothered by us. There were several items that were not available after we ordered. Rather than suggesting new options, she left us to figure it out ourselves. After we found another item, she told us it was also not available! She should have just told us up front so we didn't waste everyone's time. Additionally, we ordered a bottle of wine, but she did not care to even pour our glasses. We had a party of 8 so our server got 20% gratuity automatically. At this price point, we expected a little better service than we were getting. Food: The steak was mediocre, especially for the price that we were paying. I've had better steaks at a chain than here. The steak wasn't well seasoned and relied on the glob of cold herb butter to save it. Since the steak wasn't particularly hot, the butter took a while to melt into the steak. The side of broccoli was unseasoned. Overall, not impressed by this meal. Wish that this restaurant would have better service and food! It's very lovely and iconic for the area. read more

We did have a 30 min wait once we got there. It was okay to us because we got to enjoy the fire place while waiting. Which felt amazing & cozy: Once we got our table we had peanuts at the table and waitress got our drinks & brought us bread almost immediately. We got some cheese sticks for appetizers & they tasted good. We both got ribeye steaks his was a thicker cut so it took awhile for them to cook it in the middle they brought it out 3 times and the 3rd time was good. Mine tasted better than his did. Mine was the 10oz his was 16oz I think. Baked potato's was our side choice not too bad at all. Also came with a choice of soup or salad. I got a salad & he got the chicken noodle soup. We are here on July 4th 2025 , we kinda picked a bad day to come but we stuck it out. 45 minutes later we were sat down in a cool quiet corner , the live music was awesome. I ordered a Grilled burger with green chile and cheese , it was served with a real nice whole green chile that had some good bite. The blend of lettuce tomato onions pickles mustard mayo and ketchup exploded in my mouth , the patty was at least a half pound and thick. This is probably the best burger in Northern New Mexico. My wife had a ribeye salad which was real big , she couldn't eat the whole thing so we took it home. We topped it off with a huge delicious apple pie alamode , was killer. My ribeye was delicious!! Best I've had in a long time, the salad and bread were ok nothing special but nothing bad. The service was great from being greeted and taken to our table to our waitress who was great! She worked so hard taking are of our party of 7. Ok. You should come try it at least for the history and experience. It is a very cute old building with some charming touches. FYI they do Not split checks for groups. We ordered chicken noodle soup, and prime rib (rare). The soup was good, their bread is good, the prime rib was good (a tad over cooked for me but still ok)....but nothing I couldn't cook better really. On our recent visit in New Mexico we ventured out to a cute ski town Red River. It was a foul of 13 people that we had to dine. They were very accommodating and surprisingly got us in super quick. This is a very cozy cabin type establishment and perfect decor for the area. Our waitress was amazing and very tentative. I had the pork tenderloin which was delicious ; however the rest of the party wasn't as satisfied. Most of the table ordered burgers and said they were definitely not worth the large price tag. The prices were extremely steep so be prepared to down over $100 for a couple. For the size of the restaurant there were not many bathrooms and there was always a line especially since the place was packed! There also is no parking lot so it is hard to find parking. My boyfriend and I made a trip to Red River in October for his birthday. He wanted a little getaway adventure and that's exactly what we did. It even snowed while were there. Such a nice treat! Being his birthday weekend and all, of course he wanted a steak. We lucked out to find Texas Red's Steakhouse. Someone actually mentioned it in the sign in book at the cabin we stayed in. We walked down the strip of red river and found it. The place was packed! We signed in with the hostess and were quoted a 45 minute wait. All the seating for waiting was taken so we checked to see if we could get drinks at the bar adjacent to the waiting room. The hostess told us yes of course and that we could come back into the waiting room so that we can hear her calling names. Well, we ordered our drinks, old fashioned and a bloody mary, and walked back into the waiting room. Only to be demanded by their security to return to the bar. We certainly obliged him, but not minutes later another guy comes into the waiting room with a beer and glass of wine for his wife. He wasn't bothered at all. Womp. That put a bad taste in our mouth to be so obviously mistreated. Thankfully, the rest of our stay managed to be more pleasant. Our server was very nice and made sure we were satisfied. We both ordered ribeyes. I the small and him the large. Needless to say we took home some to snack on later. I'd say we most likely return on our next trip to Red River. The two previous times we've been here the food was not great and the service was worse.... But since Sundance - our tradition - is closed during the week while we are here this time - we decided to go give this place a chance to redeem themselves. They most definitely did that. My son enjoyed his NY Strip steak & my mom & I enjoyed our burgers (I got Elk she got steak burger.) The only bad part was my coke I sent back twice and gave up - it tasted like diet like maybe they got the lines confused - so I ended up just drinking water which was fine. I feel like they are just too expensive as far as the steaks are concerned. My favorite restaurant in the Enchanted Circle! Great wait staff, amazing kitchen and a full menu. Bartenders are fun and the bar has it's own vibe with live music. You have to try this place to know just how special it is. I recommend the Steak Burger. It's by far the best burger I've had in all of New Mexico. The Apple Pie is next level as well. Overpriced for underwhelming food. Steaks are under seasoned and the "chicken breasts" is actually just one single chicken breast. Frozen fries. Kids burger will NOT come with a bun no matter what. We took a party of 12 there tonight, great food, great service, felt the food was priced right for a resort town, 20% tip no matter what, was a little crazy, and a domestic beer is $8. But, again, food was great, service great, nobody had to wait on drinks and food came out in the time expected, again it's a wonderful resort town and every other restaurant that's actually open is very busy also. My 1st time to Texas Red's was at the prior location and we have been going ever since. The prime rib is the best meat on the menu, I believe. It is now my go-to and it is always delicious and cooked perfectly to taste. There just isn't that much good food in this town so Reds will always be worth it to me. One minor complaint I have is that my wife and I do not drink, but do enjoy a beer. They did have an NA selection which is nice, but they charged $9 a bottle for no booze!!!! My husband and I came here after an unpleasant experience at Brett's Bistro for our anniversary dinner. I must be honest, the prior recent reviews had me a little nervous but it was our anniversary and my husband wanted steak so here we came. My husband called ahead to ask about the 7 party group and was IMMEDIATELY told we'd have to separate because it was a state law on max number of guests - we greatly appreciated the heads up so we'd be prepared and knew going in it wasn't going to be exactly what we'd hoped. WHAT. AN. AWESOME. EXPERIENCE. From the time we walked in, we were treated in such a wonderful manner. There was a sweet woman who i think either owned or managed the place who came bustling out to ensure our name was added to the wait list, friendly hostess who let us know we could grab drinks in the bar area, an awesome bartender who took care of our table efficiently and then an amazing server (Kelsey i believe) who tended to my group. I saw the manager/owner assisting in every aspect of a busy restaurant from putting in drink orders to delivering drinks and checking in on the tables while we waited. In addition, the server apologized to my surprise foe "putting us in the corner" - we were placed in a semi-private room to the side but she wanted to keep us as close together as possible - HOW SWEET & CONSIDERATE We were advised up front because of the crowd, our server would be a minute before coming over - we all had drinks so didn't upset us a bit. Kelsey came hustling over quickly, took drink orders and was efficient in coming back. She provided great food recommendations and all of our orders were spot on! we had a combo of: appetizer sampler, crispy chicken salad, grilled chicken salad, 4 elk burgers, and 1 ribeye. everything was delicious!
