Here is a great cafe ran by 2 beautiful young ladies, that serve up great foods. it is a little south of Industry off County Road 109. The Cafe sets on county road 1094 in New Um which is east by northeast out of Sealy. If you happen to be in the area, please stop in and try their hamburger & French fries, one can't go wrong, the burgers are a real hand full. They also have a lunch special and a good salad bar. and breakfast starts at 8. Their hours during the week change up some. Mon thru sat they are open from 8 to 2 & closed on Sundays. Nice drive from Sugarland to New Ulm. Specifically wanted to try this place so out we went. Cool little joint with BIG plates and tasty food. We split a double cheeseburger with bacon and glad we did. Barely got half of it down! Onion rings were terrific as well. Everyone else seemed to be really enjoying their meals. We stopped in for lunch at one of only two restaurant in the quaint little town of New Ulm. The Texas Star Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to get here early as it can get crowded and they close a 2pm. I had a 1/2 lb specialty burger and rings. My burger was served on Texas toast, smothered in grilled onions, mushrooms and pepper jack cheese. It was great. I also tried the standard burger as well, it is served an a regular bun with lettuce and tomato. If you are craving a burger either one would be an excellent choice as they are both very good. My onion rings were cooked perfectly and not very greasy. If you prefer fries they have both steak and curly. A lot of people were ordering the chicken fried steak, I think it was the special. I am looking forward to try it the next time I'm at the Texas Star Cafe. Service was great, our waitress was friendly and checked on us several times. My fresh brewed unsweetened ice tea was always full. Truly a 5 star lunch. read more

I believe this to be the only place to eat in the small town of New Ulm, TX (Pop. 152). Before this there was The Tavern which burned down I believe and The Parlor, which also burned down. Texas Star Cafe is made from barn tin so hopefully they'll be alright. The menu is very much like The Tavern's used to be, but they have traditional German lunch specials like sausage and sauerkraut which was very tasty. You will never go wrong when ordering chicken fried steak and gravy here. Also, the salad bar is typically fresh and above average. I usually eat lunch here and the waitstaff is always welcoming and friendly. The prices are fare and locals visit with one another across tables as it's not hard to know everyone in the town. I would recommend this spot to anyone passing through or looking for a local place for fine Southern cooking. read more

New Ulm doesn't have many restaurants (this was the only one I could find!), so Texas Star Cafe dealt with a big rush from the motorcycle rally that we were in town for. They had no problem getting everyone in and out quickly and didn't seem to mind all of the pirates invading their town. The service was very friendly, and the wait staff was attentive with our order and drinks without being intrusive. The food is the best you can expect from an old-time Southern diner. I had the large chicken fried steak with gravy, which was delicious. The fries were decent, and I had no need for the included salad bar so I can't rate that at all. Note that this place doubles as the local farm store, so you can get herbicides and food for your horse at the same counter where you order up a pie to take home. That was a little odd, but I'm sure the locals appreciate the convenience. When I find myself in New Ulm next year, I will be sure to stop here first. read more

Texas Star is a fantastic family owned business in lil old New Ulm, Tx.Their food is great but one item on the menu stands out their HAMBURGERS. Whoever votes the other place the best hamburgers in Austin county must of not stopped at Texas Star! They are consistently the best around. The meat patty must be at least half a pound or better plus at a affordable price. They serve terrific lunches every weekday and Saturday and won't hurt your budget.
