Good price, big portions, not welcoming of travelers We came to this location as a random stop on our treks through Texas. When we initially came here, we thought this place was closed because of the lighting. We tried anyways, and there was ample seating and plenty of folks to take care of us. The inside is minimalist, but well enough. They have signs of wear but nothing felt dirty. It's a small venue with some grit, but nothing off putting. Our waitress was a bit short with us, but took our order and directed us to the salad bar. The salad bar being a bowl of lettuce, some tomatoes, and 4 homemade salad dressings. We made a quick salad with the items present and waited for our meal. By the time our meals came out, another couple came in and was seated. The waitress was much more inviting to this new couple, and was more than willing to assist them throughout the meal. So it was very clear that this was a local place with no room for travelers. Which is a crying shame, because the food was actually pretty good. The ribeye the girlfriend got was cooked right and a very good size for the price. The only complaint being they didn't season it and it appeared cooked sous vide. It was more grey than anything and the fat wasn't really rendered out. but it was a perfectly cooked steak, just not finished. The chop steak was also good. A fine gravy, seasoned patty, good quality mashed potatoes and a good sautéed mushroom and onion atop it. The price was very reasonable given the portion. The ribeye under 20 and the chop steak around 13. So for the money, this place is a bargain. Especially since the quality of what's being presented is actually quite good. So long as you're willing to deal with a gruff staff and a well loved dining area, there's a lot to like about this place. If you're a local, you'd be hard pressed to find better around. As a traveler though, you need a thick skin and dirty hands to find those diamonds sometimes. If you don't mind those issues, there's plenty to like. read more

This place was horrible. We were the only ones in the restaurant and it looked like a ghost town. We went ahead and ordered chicken fried steak and flounder. We left shortly after we got our food . Thefish was still raw and mushy. The chicken fried steak was cooked on the outside but the inside was raw . I ate a few bites before I realized it wasn't cooked fully and now my stomach hurts. 3.5 We had a few choices while stopping over in Bellville and opted to come in here after seeing all the good reviews. We got there around lunchtime, which, being the first folks there, was kind of strange. The decor does not scream steakhouse, more like an office with padded chairs. The service, though, was very attentive, and we had no issues getting our meal on time or our drinks refilled. They were very polite. I got the salmon dish, and it was good. The portions were far larger than I'd expected. Usually, fish is a tiny portion, and for the price, it was a great deal. The fish was cooked well, a bit salty, but it helped the rice, which was a bit underwhelming in flavor. This was fine when they were mixed with the sauce. I thought it odd that the mixed vegetables were zucchini, broccoli, and green beans, but it was good. Overall, a good experience. read more

Updated Review - June 2025 - Father's Day Disaster We decided to give this place another try for Father's Day, and unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge mistake. What should have been a special outing turned into an uncomfortable and frankly disrespectful experience, all thanks to our server. Our waitress--an older woman with a notably snarky and condescending attitude--was dismissive from the start. When we asked about a menu item labeled "New York Sirloin," she rolled her eyes and responded, "It's meat. I don't understand your question." Any seasoned steak eater knows that "New York Sirloin" makes no sense--it's either a New York Strip or a sirloin. Her tone was dripping with sarcasm, and it only went downhill from there. When I asked what was on the salmon salad, she snapped back, "Everything on the salad bar," as if I'm somehow supposed to know what items are currently stocked there. I've been to plenty of restaurants, and that's just not how you treat customers--especially when your location is dependent on locals and those willing to make the drive. Things got outright bizarre when she took my empty glass, refilled it with tea, and then deliberately placed it on the opposite side of the table from me. Every time she brought something to the table, it was slammed down with attitude. The entire interaction felt hostile, and we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. At the end of the day, we would rather drive 30 extra minutes to enjoy better food and, more importantly, respectful service. If you're running a country restaurant in the middle of nowhere, treating your guests with basic courtesy should be a priority--you should be grateful people are choosing your place over other higher-end spots just a bit farther down the road. We had really high hopes for this new location and genuinely wanted to support a local business. But sadly, this just ain't it. We won't be back, until we hear that staff has been updated with friendlier people. read more

Before I talk about how great the food @ Yani's is, look: if you're in Houston, or don't mind making the drive there, you absolutely can't beat Taste of Texas for a Steakhouse. That said. If you're in Bellville, Hempstead, Bernham, anywhere else in that Northwest Houston area, Yani's is where you'll get the best steak or italian food. It's casual and the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the food & cooking. Some of my favorites here other than the steak: the chopped steak, the grilled chicken alfredo, and the gumbo. Haven't ever had anything on the menu I didn't like, though. This place is the antidote for the lousy chain restaurant blahs. : ) read more

I can't say enough great things about Yani's Steakhouse -- everything from the food to the service was absolutely top-notch! The steaks were cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor, and the sides were just as delicious. The atmosphere had that perfect small-town charm but with the quality of a big-city steakhouse. What really made the night unforgettable, though, was our waitress Jenna. She was wonderful -- friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had an amazing experience. She went above and beyond, checking on us often without ever being intrusive, and made the whole dinner feel special. You can tell she loves what she does, and it really shows. We had stopped going to Yani's at their old location because the cane back chairs were uncomfortable and the salad bar was reduced to only lettuce and the woman who (I think) was the manager got a bit snippy when we complained. Made us feel like she didn't want us there. So a friend told us that things had improved since they moved, so we went to the new location on Hwy 159 today. Wow! It is so nice! We were greeted at the door with by a very lovely young woman with a friendly "Hello". They had 2 separate seating areas- one had the old cane chairs and the other had nice comfortable padded chairs. Both areas are huge. We sat in the comfy chairs. Our waiter came out right away with menus and got our drinks. Then he told us about the special of the day. My husband ordered spaghetti and I ordered tilapia almondine. We served ourselves salads with lettuce tomatoes cucumbers and bacon - with delicious homemade dressings. Our food came out at the perfect time and was hot and tasty. My husband said it was the best spaghetti and meat sauce he had ever had at a restaurant. Our waiter was wonderful! He made sure we had everything we could possibly want, even bringing extra lime when he refilled the tea. A friendly fellow who is very conscientious about taking care of his customers. When we left, we were made to feel like we were leaving a place that cared we came- more than one person saying something like, "we hope to see you again real soon." read more

Spot on pineapple salmon. Our server Jena was awesome did not have to ask for anything, she made sure that we had what we needed before we had to ask. Very nice atmosphere, seems to be a nice place for a romantic dinner or a place to have a company get together. Great place will definitely return. read more

Out-of-towners visiting the area from Dallas. Came in for dinner. Kiddo had chicken tenders and they were the real kind not the frozen kind. Can't say how the food was... We never even got to order. We arrived at probably 25% capacity and when we left it was at 50%. 5 people arrived after us. They took those peoples orders before us. Actually a little disappointed. Wife had a hamburger - it was decent, and I ordered a chopped steak. They kinda forgot to cook my chopped steak. When I pointed it out to our waitress, she seemed mildly amused more than genuinely concerned. (She didn't come to check on us til we were nearly done with our meal, so when she offered to send it back to "put on the grill", I declined) The salad bar was decent, but didn't have any cheese, and was limited to lettuce, tomato, cucumber, croutons and bacon. When I asked about shredded cheese, my waitress cheerfully brought me a bowl of it. I was pleasantly surprised that even my wife's hamburger and fries include the salad bar for a total of $8.00. Not bad. It was lunch on Saturday, and wife and I were the only customers the whole time we were there. We arrived way early for dinner, about 4:30 pm as we had another engagement to get to at 6 pm. We drove in from Katy, Tx a good 45 minute drive. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. The three stars are for his awesome attitude and the quality of the food. The last two stars would have been given if there was more attention given to cleanliness of the light fixtures (there's bugs and dirt in them) replacement of carpet and new linens. The white linens have a red imprint of words and graphics, as though they were sold at a deep discount due to the mistake. We ordered a T-bone steak 16 oz and a sirloin 12 oz. Both were flavorful, juicy and had the fat untrimmed. The vegetable side dish was fresh and cooked nicely. The mashed potatoes left something to be desired. The steaks came with a mushroom gravy/au jus sauce which was almost cold. There isn't a wine or beer list. They offer the basics of each. For the price of the steaks ($16+) I expected at least a small wine list. Since it is so far, I won't again. However for the small town in which it is located, it seems like a decent place to go for a nice meal if you live near by. read more

We went based on yelp reviews. Thank you so much because the food was really good. This is a family run businessman I love to support local! We both got wine with our meal which was a blend but good. He got a ribeye with fettuccine Alfredo and I had the chicken primavera. Both were seasoned well and tasted fresh and delicious. The salad bar is basic but fresh and the dressing was homemade. Overall we very much enjoyed our dinner and the service was excellent. The people there are friendly and they want you to enjoy you experience. Our aunt and uncle rave about this place for the past 3 years. We never have a chance to go due to busy schedule. We finally went Monday February 20th around 6:30pm. First thing first, the place looked cramp with tables. I can only imagine how it would feel like whenever they are busy. 2nd the dingy cropped red carpet needs to be replace. They were torn pieces here and there. 3rd the acetate table cover just provoke cheapness and to call yourself a steakhouse is just wrong. Better leave it off so no linen cost. 4th Ratan chairs?? Really? 5th Salad bar whaat? There isn't enough to call it salad bar and who knows how long it had been sitting there. The bread basket that is complimentary just says frozen. You will find the same one in any cheap italian restaurants. The butter has flavor that was good. Our family ordered a lil bit of everything We had the Sirloin, Ribeye, Chicken Marsala and a Burger. The temperature on our steaks are spot on! But clearly you get what you pay for on the quality of the steaks. No USDA Prime here. Burger was so so, homemade fries it looks and taste like. The chicken Marsala was good according to our mom, but she didn't eat half of it. For a family of 4 we paid $65 with a glass of wine. Place is OVERPRICED, has some decent salad bar but the steaks are not worth it at all! I ordered a 12 ounce ribeye medium rare and the poor thing looked like it got beat to death. Stopped at Yani's around Thanksgiving. Had a burger salad, well a burger without a bun and then went to their salad bar and cut the burger up and added salad and it was burger salad. Typically American fare, but with fresh options and not too heavy like you might think of a steakhouse. Sunday lunch buffet is also very good, and I'm wary of buffets, trust me. In Houston this might be more of a casual place, but in a small country town, I'd say it's more on the nicer side of things. Atmosphere is sedate and comfortable, and is family friendly, with plenty of parking. You might not feel like its a five star place because it is in a shopping center and a little dated, but, that's the way it goes in a small town with small traffic! The food is mediocre. Photos of the crab cake I ordered show it was not a crab cake. It was more of a mixture of crab and filler. For the price of $8, you get what you pay for at the restaurant. The servers and staff are all polite. The salad bar consists of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumbers, bacon bits, sliced tomatoes, lots of salad dressing. Wonderful on pretty much every level! All dishes that we've tried are excellent and the portions are huge, you can honestly take half home for dinner or lunch the next day. The daily buffets are satisfying and the weekend buffets are a treat. And if you love bacon, you are in the right place! The staff is phenomenal. My husband and I have eaten there as a couple and with our three young children, the staff is VERY kind and understanding with them.
