While in Galveston with a few friends, we decided to stop by Texas Tail Distillery to have a few cocktails and enjoy the afternoon. I loved the fun mural and yard games in the back patio and the nice aesthetic on the inside as well. I ordered the moonshine margarita and was surprised at how great it tasted as moonshine can often just taste like you're drinking gasoline. I also tried my friend's bloody mary and another friend's espresso martini... everything was great. As the drinks are strong and they do hit you if you haven't eaten, I ordered the nachos to try. While they weren't what I was expecting, they were good and we all enjoyed them! The bartender who was working was phenomenal! Not only was she incredibly friendly and fun to talk to, but she was great at making suggestions and helping me to decide what to order. We decided to travel to Galveston, TX, hoping to find a place to eat. Unfortunately, with a festival in town and parking nearly impossible, every restaurant we had in mind fell through. As we drove around, my wife spotted a distillery--one I hadn't noticed--that served food and had parking nearby. So we thought, "Why not?" When we arrived, my wife preferred sitting inside, but with the weather so beautiful, I suggested we sit outside. We were guided to our table, and just as we sat down, the bench under my wife cracked in half, causing her to fall. Thankfully, she wasn't hurt, though it certainly caught us off guard. The staff and some nearby guests quickly came over to check on her. Neither of us had ever experienced anything like that before! Being 6'7" and 285 lbs, I would've expected it to happen to me instead. We started our evening by sampling a few drinks. I tried the Coastline Whiskey, an 87-proof bourbon with notes of vanilla, spice, and honey--a smooth bourbon aged in American oak. I also tried a higher-proof bourbon, which was excellent. Both the whiskey and the cocktails were fantastic, and Michelle, our waitress, was outstanding and attentive throughout the evening. When I ordered another drink, Michelle asked if my wife wanted anything and then informed us that our meal and drinks were on the house as a gesture. I thanked her, saying it wasn't necessary, but we appreciated it. However, I did notice they left the broken bench in place. Personally, I would've removed it to prevent someone else from sitting there--but that's just me. We loved the food we ordered. The hamburger came with everything on it, including onions, which I usually hate, but it was so good I didn't mind. I might even be warming up to onions! The staff was incredibly kind and offered us a gift card, but since we're from Pennsylvania and unsure of when we'll be back, they generously gave me a bottle of bourbon to take home. I opted for the more affordable bottle, not wanting to take an expensive one, and it turned out to be excellent. I'd definitely return. Visited Galveston for the umpteenth time and stumbled upon this ABSOLUTE gem of a spot. Blows my mind how I never came across this establishment before but I am sure glad I did this time; and will be visiting whenever I am in town from now on. First and foremost the staff at Texas Tail are AWESOME. Top notch, cream of the crop. I say staff because every single individual that I had an interaction with that is part of that staff was great. Really enjoyed the tour and getting to know how their products are made and also what makes them unique. I was impressed with the quality of everything they're making here. The whiskey, the vodka, and the shine. We pretty much purchased one of each and will be seeking them out at our local liquor to keep a bottle on hand at home. The vibe of the place is lively on some days and livelier on others. (Visited on a Saturday & Sunday) Drink menu is full with a selection of amazing cocktails prepared with all their great spirits. Pricing is very reasonable and worth every bit. Even the food items they're pushing out are great. I'm torn on preparing this review because I almost want to keep this place a secret. This place is a gem. Out walking and came up on our favorite thing to do...visit distilleries. I ordered a Lonestar mule which was so refreshing and quite perfect. The hubby ordered an old fashioned and it came out with the distillery stamp on the cube. The food was amazing. The barbeque is so authentic. They only sell what they make here for spirits. This place is incredible. It has an area outside that has tons of room and fun things to do. This place is amazing...I am coming back here before I end our vacation. Definitely and highly recommend. This is a fairly new establishment near the Strand in Galveston. As a matter of fact, the upstairs area as of this writing is still under construction. They do not have a parking lot so you'll have to find a pay as you park space on the street. Plenty of seating inside, and they have a large outdoor seating area with a food truck. Since they make their own alcohol, their license does not allow them to sell beer. Their drink prices are quite reasonable and you can even get a bottle to go. read more

From out of town and walked inside on a warm Friday afternoon. The layout is engaging and the staff friendly. The alcohol is pretty smooth and the flavors - honey whiskey (?) and apple moonshine were really good - the apple moonshine was actually great with the food. Speaking of food - the deviled eggs were relatively light and flavorful. Anything with the word "slider" in its name was excellent. Yeah, the menu can't be highly rated by the heart association but you end up drinking enough that it won't bother you from having a good time. There also seemed to be an outdoor area which might be fun after dark or during football season but man, it was just too hot and humid for me to even think about it. The distillery tour is nice. The host was very pleasant and was enthusiastic about the business so we got a good sense of history, commitment and process. read more

If you are in the Galveston, you must visit Texas Tail. Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall appearance and its location. This is the best place to have a nice casual drink in Galveston. The place is very spacious. The service was absolutely the best. We arrived after 9 on a Friday night and the service and the food was still top-notch. The distillery makes their own whiskey, vodka and moonshine, and it is delicious. The frozen flight gives you a large variety of drinks if you are indecisive. The chicken sliders with honey jalapeño are amazing. The deviled eggs were so very very good. A must try. The distillery food was better than most restaurants in the area. The prices are really good. This place is not too expensive at all. I highly recommend Texas Tails, and encourage anyone visiting the area to add the distillery to the bucket list. read more

We discovered this little gem last Nov on a trip to Galveston. We loved it so much we ended up there 3 different evenings. So this week on returning to Galveston my husband couldn't wait to go back. The 1st evening we were there our daughter was just as impressed with the drink menu as my husband & I. My hubby even bought a bottle of whiskey. So we decided to return on our last night in town. Even tho it was a Friday evening they limited their drink menu to about 6 or so drinks. My daughter was a bit disappointed because the 2 drinks she was looking forward to wasn't on the menu. We still stayed & enjoyed a couple drinks off the limited menu. Didn't ask why they were on a limited menu tonight. They are moving to a new location soon.
