Very unprofessional staff members and poor quality management. I called and spoke with the one of the staff members, she explained me about the membership, once I drove over looking for a gate and I could not get in. Then I called again. She said oh this is just for TI employees, I told her, if it was just for TI employees why didn't you told me over the phone? And she hang up on me, I called her a lot. She never responded. Top-notch gym! The staff is friendly & helpful. All classes have great instructors with no additional fee. Workout equipment provides a variety of possibilities. So this place really hits the nostalgia button for me. My father worked for Texas Instruments, so during the summer in college I would workout here. It was here that I had my first experience with a personal trainer and really started to love lifting. My first job ever was working the juice bar here. I also worked at TI for a while so I again worked out here and participated in some of the inter-mural programs with coworkers. Not a whole lot has changed since I last worked out here, back in the early naughts. Where there were once CRTs (Where I saw episodes of the first season of Survivor) there are now flat screens. This place is nerdy. TI has a lot of engineers, so that's who works out here. Also, because I work out in the 9:30-11:00 time slot I work out with all the retirees. So I get to run into friends of my dad while working out. This is not the easiest gym to get to since it's on TI's campus, though it is kind of cool that I have to go through a security check point to get to the gym. Layout/facility This place is very large, and they live up to the name of activity center. They have various group exercise rooms, a basketball court, indoor track, outdoor track, indoor pool, soccer field, sand volleyball courts, ping pong table, etc. About ten years ago I got my dad hooked on mat Pilates classes, and though he's retired he still goes to classes. I like to think that's one reason why though he's 74 he is still very active and has good mobility. Anyways, they have something for everyone here. It's kind of like a college gym with the programs, but populated by older people. Group classes They have tons to offer here. I think I tried out a karate class here once (was not impressed, but that could be because I was spoiled by going to an awesome Kung Fu/Tai Chi place first). I also did some yoga/pilates classes with my sister and dad back in the day and remember them being good. I've also seen swimming classes, so there is tons to do here. Locker rooms These are the exact same as they were back in 1999. At least for the men, this place is not for the modest. The showers are community, and you will have lots of old naked guys walking around. They have a hot tub, and although lots of blow dryers they don't really offer any products. So you have to bring everything yourself. Personally that's fine with me because, with the exception of Telos, I have yet to see a gym that offers everything including aftershave. If you're going to have to bring something, might as well bring everything. read more

I swim here twice a week, so I can't speak as to the other equipment beyond the pool & locker room area. When you walk in, everything looks nicely maintained and clean, and there is plenty of space for those flowing in and out. The pool is pretty standard: just 6 lanes with both shallow and deep ends. It's usually an ok temperature, though it can be a little chilly. They also have kick boards, pull buoys, and water aerobic equipment for general use. The room can be quite humid if you're just standing around on deck, but it's not too bothersome. I really like the locker rooms here because they're so spacious. There are places to hang your clothes and jackets, private changing rooms, a spa, shower facilities, and plenty of counter & mirror space. For us ladies, they also provide hair dryers along the counters, so you don't have to lug one around all day. This place is always clean and taken care of, so it's a step above some of the grungy gym locker rooms I've seen. Overall, it seems like a good gym, so I'll continue my swim workouts here :) read more

Small circle of A to AA volleyball players every Saturday from 330 to 530. Cheap at only around $3 a play day. They also have gymnastics classes prior to 3 and play badminton from 330 to 530 on the other court. read more

Closed the sauna, steam room, and hot tub without any communication to members or effort to make it up. Staff has become more and more unprofessional as I've worked out here. The facility has a lot of potential, but management and the employees maintaining it have made this a subpar place to work out. The only thing keeping them in business is their proximity to TI/Raytheon. Will be interesting to see what happens with a large quantity of TI/Raytheon employees and gym members reaching retirement age. read more

I almost exclusively use the 8-lane 25-yard pool, and I have only had to share a lane to swim laps a half dozen times. Try to do that at the Y or a 24 Hour Fitness or a Community Activity Center. It ain't going to happen. Also great selection of Cardio machines. They have them all except, alas, no VersaClimber. It's a shame because those machines burn four times the calories of your typical elliptical or stairclimber machine. And you can't beat the price if you work for TI or Raytheon. read more

The Texins Acivity Center was built in 70's for TI executives to my understanding. At the time, this was the poshest of the posh. Doesn't appear to have undergone major updating since then but even by today's standards exceeds amenities offered by comparable health facilities. Good thing is its not open to the public but anyone can purchase a membership. Our family likes it fine. That being said, this isn't a country club or the kind of place you go to see and be seen. Its pretty plain Jane in that respect but has everything you could possibly need. read more

Texins is a conveniently located gym on the Texas Instruments campus. That is probably the only plus. The gym services TI employees, the community, runs a summer camp and also has classes for seniors. Between all these groups it is extremely spread thin. The staff for the most part has been friendly (with a few exceptions) but that cannot compensate for poor services. It is often impossibly to get access to many services due to the children's camps, and other group events. I have repeatedly had to leave the gym when I could not get access to the pool or courts since they were shut off for summer camps or programs. Frankly it appears the texins is just another YMCA that happens to be on the TI campus. As a paying member I am hard pressed to see the value in paying for a service that is then denied to me when special programs constantly take precedence. I'm not a member, but I visited today as my wife had a scheduled class. The facility was a bit dated, but okay. The same cannot be said for the horrible, unprofessional and downright rude gate guard. I said hello as we arrived, BUT she must not have heard me because we were then greeted with an angry hello, as if her failure to hear my greeting was an affront of some sort. It didn't get any better, as she was a mix of rude and dismissive when asked how to locate the activity center. I hope "Paulina Blart" has a supervisor that'll follow up. That said, it's hard to imagine that they could have spent more than 5 seconds with her previously and not have an awareness of what they have representing them. Absolutely horrible!!! read more

Couldn't ask for much more in a work gym...indoor lap pool, indoor/outdoor tracks, indoor basketball/volleyball/badminton court, league sports, sand volleyball, outdoor basketball court, plenty of cardio machines and weights, group exercise classes, personal trainers available, kids day care available, clean locker rooms...definitely a great bonus for working at TI or having a family member who does!! read more

Two years ago, I set out to get some rehab on my knees and went to Texins to get some pool fitness. Little did I know that I would find a private session with a coach that was caring, fun, creative and committed to helping me meet my goals. Cathy Johnson, the Aquatics Coordinator at Texins is that special coach. She knew when to push me, when to modify the activity and seldom did the same activity twice. I never knew that one could do so much with a pool noodle! The bonus was also Debbie the upbeat and friendly lifeguard, who made all of us feel at home and safe!
