So I placed a phone order, I ordered 5pc wing with combination fried rice, 5pc wing with regular fried rice and another order of 5pc wing with regular fried rice. The lady told me 7 mins. I was like 7 mins. As soon as she said that in my mind I was like yeah I'm not getting fresh food. So my total was $53.20. I gave them $5 tip when I picked up my food. I wish I just didn't call them at all. When I tell you the food wasn't fresh at all. The wings were so old. The bones were snapping because they had been fried too many times. My rice was sooo hard and it was warm. My combination rice, the shrimp was soooo fishy like it had been sitting out for days. This place is truly hit or miss. Price 5/5 I ordered the wings 5/5, the sesame chicken 4/5, Szechuan steak 2/5 and the egg roll 4/5. So overall, I put the food that I've tried so far at about a 4. Fried chicken always delivers for the family I'm a crunch. But word of advise- leave the fried rice alone. It has zero flavor and is greasy.

I wanted to have some Chinese food for lunch, and the glowing reviews convinced me to check this place out. It was around 12:30pm, so I ordered the orange chicken lunch special and requested very spicy. The menus posted here are old, so the price was higher than expected, and unlike other carry out spots the egg rolls are an additional charge. My food was ready appropriately 10 minutes later. Pickup was easy and the service was friendly but the food wasn't as good as I was expecting based on the reviews. Everything was just okay, and it definitely wasn't spicy. Worst Chinese-American food I have ever had! I am 60 years old and have had a ton of great, inexpensive Chinese-American food in my life. I think of it as comfort food with lots of great flavors, but this was truly horrible. It was so bad that we threw out everything after just a few bites of each item. We ordered it through Uber Eats. The delivery guy did a great job, he got it to us fast, and it was packaged well. The high reviews are puzzling. There is no way they had the same food as we had. Either they did not have the usual cook last night, or they used old food that was not cooked well. Egg rolls: Very boring and not crispy at all. The inside was a bland filling of "I have no idea what this is." No discernible bean sprouts, veggies... just some white/yellow filling. Fried pork wonton: This should always be a nice contrast of crispy fried wonton surrounding a tasty meat morsel inside. However, our wonton was greasy, flimsy (not crisp), and the meat had an old, untasty flavor. I could not help but think this was either old fried wonton they took from the freezer and fried for 2 minutes less time than it should, then let it sit in the grease, or they took leftover fried wonton and popped in the microwave first. I could only picture Gordon Ramsay of "Kitchen Nightmares" screaming at the owners and throwing away the food after trying this. General Tso's Chicken: It is advertised as "hot and spicy." This was bland with no spice/heat whatsoever. It was barely distinguishable from the Kung pao chicken. Kung pao chicken: Same as above. Advertised as "hot and spicy." It was slightly better than the General Tso's because at least it had some more vegetables that added some variety. But we still had to throw it out. If you are going to be eating a lot of extra calories, it should at least be tasty calories. Chicken egg foo young: The grease was so dominant that it stole the show. Good egg foo young should be tasty egg with delicious onions, mushrooms, meat, etc, with a slightly crispy browned surface. However, like the wonton, it was just too grease soaked as if they made a whole bunch of these, let them sit in their grease, and reheated them as ordered. Fried rice: How can you get this wrong? First, the color was unusual. It was yellowish-colored rice. I thought, "OK, maybe they used saffron to give it some extra flavor." But no, again, it was barely tasty. We got fried rice instead of white rice because our white rice is often not used up, and we throw away the leftovers, while with good fried rice, you can pop it in the fridge and enjoy it on its own heated up. This did not taste good by itself at all. I doubt that there is anyone named Peter still associated with the restaurant. Otherwise, he would never allow such food to be served to his customers. I suspect someone bought it from a "Peter," he probably had a great restaurant, and now it is going downhill. I was hoping for some delicious food after reading all the reviews. There are some similar to mine (bland, greasy) ... I wish I had believed those and ordered elsewhere instead. We essentially threw $100 into the trash (at least some of it went to the driver as a tip). read more

I was browsing around for a cheap lunch spot and came across this place. Reading the reviews really got me interested and that it's under 10 min away from work. I ordered the hunan shrimp and fried rice to keep it simple and kind of light with the shrimp. Keep in mind they don't deliver, just carry out so make sure you have a ride or a two wheeler. There's also no parking lot so you'll have to find street parking. Luckily for me there was a spot right in front. Staff was friendly and let me know a couple times that there will be an extra 50 cents charge since I didn't order over $8 and don't have cash. I appreciated that. Food was ready and it's oof to eating. Still piping hot when I opened the box. Tasted just as good as it looks. I wish they added more shrimp to it but I guess everyone skimps on shrimp. Newsflash to the employees working at this restaurant: Asian-Americans exist. Don't ask us if we are from China or where we are from if you don't know anything else about us. And when I briefly responded that I was from a specific region in the U.S., you said that I look Asian. No s***, Sherlock. This is one of the most affordable carry out places in the area. The first time I came here was 12 years ago, and the prices have barely gone up. I usually get general Tsao's Tofu, fried rice (theirs is delicious), and a sweet tea/ lemonade combo. 99% of my visits have been satisfactory. I'm so glad I tried this place. This is fast, cheap and NON-greasy takeout Chinese food. I got the steamed dumplings, pork lo mein, hunan chicken, and 2 free spring rolls. Here's what I thought: Pork lo mein-Very good, TONS of port Hunan chicken-This dish felt very healthy and 'clean'. If you're big on the meat, this may not be a dish for you. I personally loved that there were tons of fresh veggies and it wasn't over sauced. I actually didn't feel like I needed to go on a diet after eating this meal. Steamed dumplings: large dumplings, 8 per order, favor was just ok. Maybe the fried is the way to go on these. Lots of food for $5.25. Spring Rolls: They gave me two for free (WIN!) and they were actually really good. I don't typically like egg rolls and spring rolls because they are usually greasy but these weren't. I'm not usually a huge advocate for Chinese takeout, but this place is so cheap and good. My friend and I ordered a large Shrimp Lo Mein, large Beef Lo Mein, and an order of steamed dumplings, and it was $23 total including tax. The cashier also gave us two free spring rolls and three fortune cookies, making it an absolute steal of a deal. The food at Peter's is exactly what I want from my Chinese takeout. The Lo Mein portion was easily two meals, and it is not greasy at all. The dumplings are full of pork and very thick, and the sauce is very good. There were eight or nine dumplings in the package for just over $5. The spring rolls were basic but good too. I look forward to returning soon! read more

Peter's Sub Shop isn't really a sub shop. It's an American Chinese hole-in-the-wall. Everything they make is basically what you'd expect from any other American Chinese joint, but twice as good. Peter's has ruined every other American Chinese restaurant for me because it really is that much better. I wasn't really expecting anything more than sub par borderline blah Chinese food when I spotted this place in Takoma Park, but we were in a rush and had to grab something to eat. I ordered the Hunan delight (chicken, beef, and shrimp), my daughter ordered General tso's, and daughter's friend ordered fried shrimp and fries. General Tso's chicken can be horrendous from small carry outs but this one was sooo good. It was all white meat, not overcooked or greasy, and lightly sauced while still remaining crispy. My hunan was also great and I was shocked to see at least 5 huge juicy shrimp in the dish. Usually, these places includes only two pieces when mixed with other meats. Received my chow mein without fried noodles and asked for brown rice and got white rice with soy sauce and onions. Also, I ordered an order of shrimp rolls and an order of egg rolls. I received one shrimp roll and 1 egg roll. It used to be two rolls per order. I am uncertain if they misunderstand my request. The order was priced higher than we usually pay. Sad that Pete is no longer running this place. We don't have plans to return. read more

The family that had run this place for ever has left and there are new owners. Sad to say it is not at all the same. Didn't get any sweet and sour sauce with my sweet and sour chicken. When I drove back to the store, they gave me the barest minimum of sauce at the bottom of a very empty looking container. It was also cold. They used to heat up the sweet and sour sauce. Not really too much you can say about small little carry outs like Peter's. Their menu is filled with the staples of Americanized Chinese carry out establishments. The food is affordable, made quickly and taste pretty good. Fish sandwich was nicely put together with thick pieces of fish throughout the sub. Fries were fried well and the wings were a nice sized and cooked thoroughly. Mumbo sauce was not the version I am use to but had a nice sweet taste to it and was a nice addition to the wings and fries. Great spot for a quick bite. read more
