We have been looking for a good Thai place near Farmington Hills with not much luck. The places we've been to either seem dirty or had mediocre (at best) food. I think this will be our new spot. We got take-out from them and both our meals were very good. There was a good amount of vegetables in mine and you can tell they were fresh, not canned...plus, there were a lot! I usually get the same thing everywhere I go (some version of red curry stir fry with tofu) and more often than not, there doesn't seem to be enough vegetables in it. We ordered carry out from Thai Basil and were extremely pleased with our choices. We have eaten at many Thai places and Thai Basil was delicious. I got the Massamon curry, which was one of the best I have had. They were quick with our order and very pleasant. This is a little gem tucked into a strip mall- would highly recommend it. read more

One of my all-time favorite Thai restaurants in Michigan. I love to get the pad see ew there. On this last trip, I ordered the same, and my husband ordered the basil (Thai?) fried rice. Both were fantastic, spice level was as expected, and portions were large. I would recommend any of the noodle dishes or fried rices, but have not really had their curry. I have never had to wait for a table here, and service is always prompt and friendly. read more

All I have to say about this place is the food is acceptable , but the gnats are so overwhelming you'd think you were in a jungle. Everyone swinging their hands around and clapping. We've been going to this restaraunt since it first opened, and as of late, the service has been really leukwarm. It's one of our favorite Thai restaraunts in the area.The food is good - we typically order the pad woon sen, shrim rolls and the fried tilapia. The thai iced tea and spring rolls aren't the best. I would stay away from the Sushi rolls - and opt for a genuine Japanese place for a more authentic Sushi experience (like Inyo in Royal Oak). read more

When I came to Michigan back in 2006 I missed my Mexican spicy food, just burritos for me. I was happy but I still missed my spicy food until one of my friends took me to this restaurant. In 2006 a new path of food was opened for me. In that moment I was trapped with salt, sugar and spicy rule, and I still love Thai food. This restaurant made my life easier and since then I'm not going anywhere else. Even that they opened a new location in Novi MI, I still prefer the old location in Livonia MI. Food is good and prices are reasonable. Sometimes if you ask for hot and all your friends ask for mild, it is a chance you get mild or they get hot. They have a decent sushi with low prices, and they can fried your sushi, if you feel the sushi is too raw. They have some tea drinks with different combinations. But I usually ask for water due you need it for the spicy food. My favorites are pad Thai and red curry dinner size. I'm not a fried rice guy, but friends of mine love it in different combinations. In occasions they struggle with the service due during the week the place is packed during lunch time. They have two waitresses with experience but the others are being changed every two months. There are times they are kind of rude, but usually the service is fast and then they forgot to refill your soda due they are busy. Give them a chance a visit them if you are looking for hot or extra hot taste of Thailand. read more

Had lunch here and wasn't very impressed. The pad thai was way too salty and not that great, the crab rangoon was good though. The wait staff was very friendly but the restaurant itself needs to be cleaned. Also, there were little gnats flying around the table, which is very unappetizing to me. I'm no restaurant critic, but I know what I like and Thai Basil has to be the #1 Thai restaurant in Wayne county and the #1 restaurant in Livonia. I have eaten in several other Thai restaurants, but the Drunken Noodles, the Pad Thai and the curry dishes here are amazing. This is very much a bistro type atmosphere, so you had better not be in a hurry. You will be given plenty of time to look over the menu as well as the sushi menu (more on that later). Relax. Enjoy a Thai beer or order the plum wine, which though sweet, goes well with spicy foods. Service is "casual", so be patient and you will be rewarded. I did mention sushi before, and this place has great sushi ! I know it is odd for a Thai restaurant but one of the co-owners had the training and the place already had the sushi bar. Frequently you will find the co-owner's ("Big Guy") son behind the sushi bar making up tasty rolls. The Spicy Eel is fantastic ! A plate of 6 is a nice appetizer for 2, served in the traditional Japanese manner with pickled ginger and wasabi. Check out the luncheon specials also. read more

I have read the other reviews and cannot believe anyone would think this is good Thai food. I lived in Chicago for 8 years and have experienced really great authentic Thai food. Thai Basil in Livonia is a complete embarrassment. I have not tried the sushi here. If I want Sushi, I would go to a Japanese restaurant, not a Thai restaurant. This is like going to five guys burgers and ordering pizza. The service at Thai Basil is fine, the place looks good but the food quality is a sure sign that the ownership takes no pride in the food. The pad Thai is nothing but soggy, overcooked rice noodles and a clear liquid. Once you get to the bottom, it looks more like clear soup. Pad Thai should have a real "sauce" that coats the rice noodles, not a clear soup at the bottom that tastes like sugar water. The prices are higher than any Thai restaurant you would find in all of Chicago. This is MICHIGAN folks, nothing should cost MORE here. This is the most expensive Thai restaurant I have ever seen, and I have been to hundreds of Thai restaurants. Siam Spicy across the street carries suit - overpriced. Siam Spicy has way better food so if you have to get Thai food in this area, jump across the street to Siam Spicy. There is a reason why business is slow here, the food just sucks. The owners should go have dinner at Mai Garlic on Plymouth road sometime, maybe they can learn a few lessons on how to cook. I'm not saying Mai Garlic is amazing, because it isn't, but it blows Thai Basil out of the water. If you order from Thai Basil, make sure to order it really spicy, its the only way you will get any flavor! read more

I should have known things were not going to go well when I noticed that the facade was crumbling off both sides of the door and then I noticed that there were half smoked cigs laying in the entrance on the carpet...but I still gave it a chance due to the wonderful review that Stephanie W. gave on 5/29/15. Steph - you owe me a dinner gurl and I am not kidding. I had to ask for a napkin, then I had to ask for silverware and a plate to eat my app on, eventually I had to ask for my drink (I was getting thirsty), and finally I had to ask myself why I was still there at that point. Things such as the table next to us brought Taco Bell for their children to eat while the parents dined in was rather weird... We had the curry noodles, and the noodles were ramen! What the....? Not good tasting and messy, too. They all clumped together, and when we tried to put them on the plates, they were about 6 inches long and just fell back into the bowl. The chicken was funky and I did not eat it after the first taste, and there were very few vegetables in the dish. Spring rolls were okay but too greasy. California rolls were average. We had to pay extra for white rice, too, and it came in a little bowl so we had to pay for two little bowls. The only good thing about this place was the curry sauce, and it was really, really good. Unfortunately, nothing else was worth a return visit, which is too bad because that curry sauce was very tasty! The service was good, and the restaurant itself was pleasant, but there are too many Thai places around to come back to this one. Not terrible but by no means good or great. My wife and I split a chicken Pad Thai and spicy wonton appetizer. The pad Thai is incredibly under seasoned and void of almost any flavor. There is next to no sauce on the noodles and the egg in the dish looks like it was added separately and in large chunks in the noodles. The spicy wonton app wasn't bad at all, but frustrating. If I ask you what the special spicy sauce is, and you reply it's a house recipe, I expect for the wontons to have more than sriracha on top. Unfortunately, that's all the spicy sauce was, a typical wonton with a dab of sriracha on it. Still not bad but a long way from great. We won't be coming back. read more
