The only Thai place here that will use Chinese broccoli with the pad see ew instead of just regular broccoli. The food is cooked by an Asian auntie in front of you. This is as authentic as it gets! When I ate her noodles I felt like I was invited into her home. Service is typical of an authentic restaurant. You order, get your food, and you pay. Don't expect them to check in on you. I have a soft spot in my heart for mom and pop eateries. They seem to welcome you in a different capacity. After attending an event in the area, my fuel light was on and I felt myself getting hangry. For the safety of myself and others, we chose to eat at Suphan Thai in the Diamond Springs shopping area. There is plenty of parking and in close proximity to the door. Capable of supporting solo diners, date night and group gatherings. The food was fresh and made to order. I did have to step outside as there seemed to be limited ventilation and I felt myself getting all choked up from the heat and smell of the spices. I didn't die and I'm glad I didn't because my food was delicious. I found the portions to be generous and the prices were higher than I've experienced but understand that the price of everything but air has increased. The Thai iced tea hit the spot on this muggy day. The rice was cooked just right to absorb all the spicy goodness of my yellow curry with chicken. I got spice level two and was happy with it. I enjoy the flavor and don't get spice for torture. Food preparation didn't take long at all. The owner came by our table and we chatted a bit about how the restaurant is named after a city in Thailand and she gave background on how they started. Originally serving to friends and family then venturing into the food truck arena, Suphan Thai is now a brick and mortar business. I wish them many years of success. I came here with a group of 4 of my friends on a Tuesday evening. They already had our table set up for us. This was my first time here and they were super nice and accommodating. I didn't have much of an appetite so I only ordered the lettuce wraps. Other menu items ordered in our party were papaya salad and pad Thai. I really wanted to love their food because they were so nice. I have to be honest, I did not really like the lettuce wraps. There was way too much cilantro in it that overwhelmed the whole dish. I love fish sauce in my dishes however it smelled way too strong in this particular dish. They plated the dish beautifully but I just didn't care for it. I did order a mango sticky rice to go and I enjoyed it very much at home. All in all, great service. I would definitely come back to try other food. Also, the restaurant was very clean. read more

Entrance from Haygood is by far the easiest approach, The restaurant is small but a very adequate size. Tables line one wall with the opposite side occupied by food preparation.. We received a friendly welcome from the gentleman who greeted us. He also was the server.The owner was the Chef. We began with Summer Rolls, which were wonderful. They were large, refreshing and filled with veggie goodies. The Peanut Sauce added the perfect taste. There was no need for me to check the menu for my entree choice. I had been craving a great Pad Thai since I last visited my son in Brooklyn. His "go to" Thai spot has amazing Pad Thai. I chose Chicken & Tofu as my proteins. My son ordered Massaman Curry with Tofu. Our server explained that we could either choose not spicy or a spicy level starting with 2 & going up from there. After I initially picked 3 he said "Our spicy is REALLY spicy." So to be safe I then picked 2, which was perfect. My son went a few levels up. The food was everything my friend had told me it was. We both proclaimed our entrees as very tasty. The portions were so large that each of us brought half home. My son, who has eaten all over the world, said that it was solid, which was a high compliment. Both the owner & our server were extremely friendly. When she came around to check on us I told her my friend had recommended her restaurant. She was very interested in how he was doing & we chatted for a while. A great mom and pop shop with a very inviting staff there. Suphan is short for Suphan Buri which is a province in Thailand. I went with the pork drunken noodle and Thai tea. If you are reading this then you know what drunken noodles are. If you are not familiar with it, then let me tell you about my experience. The food is cooked to order so no need to worry about if your food was sitting under a heating lamp but along with that there is not a long wait. The entire entrée was tasty. I will admit that I wish it had a bit more cabbage and basil in it. It has been quite some time since I had drunken noodles. So many different variations of this dish but the dish at Suphan is a wonderful take on it. I started with the chicken spring rolls, and they were perfect. Light, crisp, and clearly made fresh. Then came the red curry... and honestly, this is where they won me over completely. I have eaten a lot of Thai food over the years, at restaurants all over, and this was by far the best red curry I have ever had. The spice level warmed you without overpowering the dish, and every bite tasted intentional. Local spot with flavorful dishes & great service. The Thai Tea hit the spot with very crunchy Chicken Spring Rolls. The Spicy Drunken Noodles (level 2 spicy ) had plenty of fresh and crisp vegetables with protein. It is a dish I will definitely include in my monthly rotation! Happy Thank You Thursday and this year, I share my gratitude for Suphan Thai Cuisine. I have heard SO MUCH about Suphan Thai Cuisine from fellow Yelpers like Justin V and Dennis C and it's been on my hit list for awhile! I finally had the opportunity to go and I would go back based on the hospitality alone! Miss Kathy is the matriarch of this family business and does the cooking. Her daughter was operating the front of the house during my visit. - Parking - Center lot. - Vibes - It's a quaint little spot with limited seating. One side is an open kitchen where you can watch Miss Kathy in action. It has elements of Thailand throughout the shop and I LOVED the fresh flowers on the tables. Gives the place a brightness! - Noms - Larb - copious amount of this minced chicken salad. Reminds me of the "ssam" concept in Korean cuisine wrapping meat in lettuce leaves, but with a completely flavor profile: salty, sour, spicy. Really good and I can see it being one of my go-to items on the menu Massaman curry with shrimp - rich, thick sauce that starts out a little on the spicier end (so be warned) with potatoes, peanuts. We opted for beef as we chose the pad seew with beef. I love just pouring the sauce on rice! Pad seew with beef - love that she stays true to the Thai version by using Chinese broccoli. I have noticed that since I've lived in the States, most Thai restaurants will use regular American broccoli instead, I prefer Chinese broccoli with this dish, adding extra crunch with all the stems of the Chinese broccoli. This noodle dish is a great alternative to pad Thai! Persimmon and apple crumble with ice cream - Persimmons are in season at the moment. Everyone around me seems to have a persimmon tree and seems like Miss Kathy has one as well. She is offering a seasonal dessert that we ordered which is a combination of apple and persimmon in a crumble-like dessert. It's topped with a few stewed cherries and ice cream. The persimmon paired well with the apples and spices. Ordering this was a bit extra, but I am extra so, remember to treat yourself! I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. I did ask about my go-to dish in Thai restaurants which is some sort of whole fried fish. Miss Kathy's daughter informed me that it is offered as a special every once in awhile, but if you really want it, you can call ahead and request in advance and they'll prepare it for you! YUM! Stopped for lunch. Unsweetened tea, fried egg rolls, cashew chicken. Smallish inside but does have a couple of longer tables towards the back. Older mother seems to be the owner with her adult daughter and grandson(?) doing the serving and washing up. Very friendly! The food was good and was freshly made to order. Nothing to complain about except that I had to get going a lot sooner than I wanted so didn't try any dessert. I'll be back. Saw the special they posted on their Facebook page on 09/01/2023 "Wide noodles with our decedent house sauce, bean sprouts, eggs, leeks and don't forget those baby shrimp" I knew at that moment what I was having for lunch that day and boy this did not disappoint at all. Favorite Thai food in all of Virginia Beach, actually all of Hampton Roads. I recommend coming in and dining at the restaurant rather than taking it to-go, because the owner and her employees make the experience very enjoyable and memorable. This place is a cute little gem with real authentic food. The lady owner is so sweet and accommodating. She makes the food from heart as she learned from her grandmother as she proudly explained to us. There's some dishes that's not on the menu she makes if you ask her about it. She was so sweet to do so for us. The chicken basil stir fry was good but a little too salty for me, probably too much soy sauce. The fried rice was tasty it has fish sauce in it. Came here because I was on the search for Lao food and this was the only Thai place I could find that had a menu that would come close. I was craving chicken, thum (papaya salad), and sticky rice. The restaurant was empty when we entered. We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. Which was nice, because the service was great. We got to meet the cook (also the owner I believe). We had the option to sit anywhere so we opted to sit at a long table since I tend to order a lot of food for sharing. The interior has on theme with a Thai vibe. There are boxes along the walls going towards the restrooms. Our drink orders were taken quickly. I ordered Thai tea and my husband had a beer. Beer was cold and he said paired well with the meal. We ordered chicken wings, som tum, sticky rice and a lad na entree. The som tum was delicious! We did a 3 level heat I believe. It was perfect. You got the kick but still very edible. We did huff and puff a bit but we loved it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and paired so well with the sticky rice and som tum. We could not stop eating. We did not finish the lad na because the sticky rice filled us up. It was equally delicious. The restroom is in the back, down a hallway with boxes on the floor. Restroom is clean. Over the past 3 years, Suphan Thai has been my go to for delicious Thai food. Cathy and her family/staff are so warm and welcoming, and the food is consistently good. This time, I ordered Cathy's special or the Khao man gai (chicken rice with the rice cooked in chicken fat, comes with broth on the side). It is the best comfort food ever and I highly recommend it. I ordered the ox tail soup and it was flavorful, meaty, and had a salty, sweet flavor even without adding the optional accoutrements. The soup base was especially delicious. I know it's soup but it had this melt in your mouth flavor and texture. The noodles seemed to have been soaked all day in the broth. I realize they were not but they were cooked al dente and thus opening the noodle to combine the broth flavor into it. Super good taste and value. Two thumbs up. read more

Our first trip for dinner at Suphan; won't be the last. We started with the crab rangoon. Their version is different than what you've had before, and it's delicious. The chef told us that she wanted something with more crabiness than your usual Rangoon, which is how she came up with the recipe. Each Rangoon is a whole stick of imitation crab, with a light coating of Rangoon filling, wrapped in a spring roll wrapper, and fried to perfection. It's a must try! I had chicken pad Thai, spiciness #2. Very good. I'm from Louisiana and like spice, but next time I'll get number 1. The flavors were all good and the individual ingredients didnt get lost in the proverbial sauce. My wife had the basil stir fried chicken. She liked it. The servings are very generous. The service is great. The owner/manager/chef/waiter/everything couple who run it are friendly and hard working and make sure you are happy. I would definitely consider this Thai restaurant a hidden gem among the other well known Thai establishments in this area. It's located in a shopping center off of Diamond Springs Rd in Va. Beach so it's not as well known or frequented. I believe it's run by a Thai woman and her husband but please correct me if I'm wrong. The point is that the Thai food is prepared by a wise older Thai woman and I completely trust that it is good! I placed a to go order for Beef Pad Thai with minimum spice level, pad see ew with high spice level, papaya salad, and a Thai tea. Everything was made fresh as it took a little longer to come out but it wasn't bad. The Thai tea was super orange and delicious! The papaya salad was very fresh and had that umami and savory taste you crave. I would say papaya salad is an acquired taste as there is a strong fish sauce flavor so beware. The beef pad see ew was made beautifully and the noodles and Thai basil were flavorful. The pad Thai was good as well but it's more on the peanut and lime side of flavor. This was a solid experience but next time, I will make sure to try something else on the menu :) read more

Unfortunately the food didn't match that :( The food sits at a 3/5 for me. The crab rangoons were odd; almost like a spring roll with a long piece of crab stick with zero flavor. Great customer service, great atmosphere and overall delicious food. We tried the lettuce wraps- strong lemon grass flavor but very savory. Entrees: A spicy basil fried rice, decent portion size- piled up on the plate. Pineapple curry, sweet, not too creamy, potatoes cooked to perfection, and strong flavor in every bite. I really appreciated the service that I had today 10/10 on that aspect I ordered a double egg phad Thai spicy 1 (I should have ordered spicy 2 (imma do that next time)) this was my first time experiencing Thai food and let me tell you. We love this local Thai spot! We have dined in, and more recently ordered carry out several times with COVID-19. The portions are large and the prices incredibly reasonable. I typically get at least two meals out of most of the entrees. We have tried quite a few things on the menu, but some of our favorites are the Spicy Basil Fried Rice and the Singapore Noodles. Both can be customized with spice level and we've found that a 2 is a pretty solid amount of spice without being too overwhelming. The spring rolls are also excellent! They come with a sweet and sour sauce that is a little lighter and less syrupy than you typically find. read more
