Such a cute family owned Thai restaurant. I got the Thai style noodle tom yum in their authentic dishes section and it was very flavorful. My husband got the basil pork belly which was very good as well. For the appetizers we got the cuttlefish. The flavor was great but it was a little bit cold which makes me think it has been sitting out for a while. They only have one person waiting and answering the phone so service was a little slow. Tonight we decided to have dinner at Nice Thai Cuisine located just off South Military Highway near Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Chesapeake. Please don't let the unpretentious outside dissuade you from giving this wonderful eatery a try. The food is authentic Thai cuisine as the name implies and it is prepared by a Chef who previously trained under the supervision of a Michelin Star Chef in Thailand. The creativity on display here is amazing. If you enjoy spicy food they have you covered, but they can also accommodate every palate from super mild and blow the doors off HOT AND SPICY! Being that this was our first time eating here, we decided to proceed with caution and order the midrange spicy level. The Chicken Satay was very good and we both enjoyed the peanut sauce along with the dish. We both decided to try the Chicken Pad Thai and it was delicious but be prepared because it's a large portion size. We probably could have shared the dish and we didn't finish what we ordered. Welp! One off the good ol' dining bucket list. This restaurant is located in a shopping plaza right off Military Hwy in Chesapeake, VA. As you enter, you can smell many aromatic herbs and spices in the air. I was greeted by a woman in the back who spotted me and waved a big hello. I instantly smiled because her greeting was so warm and genuine. The kind waitress proceeded to take me to my table and went ice popular choices, authentic dishes, and chef's specials. I ordered the Chicken cashew nut in the stir fry section. The dish had bold flavors of garlic, onions. Sure delish and flavorful.. tons of veggies (carrots, celery, onions, bell peppers) that complimented my protein of choice. Nice Thai always delivers when it comes to great tasting food, and has a large gluten free selection. We ordered takeout on a Saturday night and the food was ready when we arrived. Both my husband and I ordered Pad Thai, mine was chicken and gluten free while his was beef and pork. Absolutely no complaints. The gluten free meal was labeled and was pointed out to us when we picked it up. When we got home it was still piping hot and plenty of food where we have leftovers for another meal. Wow incredible!! The food and ambience at this place is amazing! It's in a run down mall but hands down this is the best Thai place I've tried in years. I got the green chili curry with chicken and mango sticky rice for dessert. The green chili curry packed some heat at medium but the white rice balanced it out along with several gulps of water. It's hidden in the corner of the shopping center over by home emporium. It's not the biggest restaurant you'll go into. But the food is hands down amazing! The lunch special really rocked! A little bit of pad Thai along with my curry. Couldn't beat that price for $11.95. on top of that, you get a huge well, I paid for it but worth it, huge Thai tea! This restaurant was one that I had been wanting to try. My son loves Thai food. So his visit, since I don't see well to drive at night, was the perfect time to have dinner at Nice Thai Cuisine. The South Military Highway establishment is a bit difficult to find if one is driving south on Military Highway at night. It is located in a strip shopping center that isn't close to the highway. The restaurant itself faces south in the L shaped shopping center. So a Navigation App was our friend in finding the location. The area & the shopping center, located on the west side of the highway, wasn't well lit. So I was happy to have my son taking the lead. The restaurant was large enough to be able to get an immediate table without a reservation. We were seated in the back, which was excellent for me since that was a time when I was still uncomfortable with eating in restaurants because of Covid concerns. My menu choice was the Pad Kra-pao (Basil with Beef Stir Fry) with Jasmine Rice. Next time I go I'll choose an entree that doesn't include beef because the beef pieces were rather large and not as tender as I would have liked. My son chose the Hot Pot Instant Noodle Tomyum Seafood which he proclaimed excellent. On a return trip I plan to choose a different entree. I can't base my thoughts regarding the restaurant on my menu choice mistake, quickly made because of my Covid fears. read more

A year ago, Sophia and I joined up with some people from our meetup group for lunch. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. We don't come to this area often, so it was sort of long overdue for a repeat. Would the great vibes continue? I placed a reservation for our party of 5 days ago for the Saturday visit, but turns out we really didn't need one. We were mostly the only ones inside for lunch. Not bad at all. And the staff were very tentative towards us. Thumbs way up. After settling down for a few minutes, it was time to order. For apps, Sophia and I ordered fried spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. For my main course, I ordered Pad Kae Mao (drunken noodles) with a mild spice. Sophia and I thought the spring rolls were just okay. Nothing really to jump up about. The chili sauce helped the app big time with each bite. The main course was very good. Full of protein and veggies. I couldn't finish so I took it home for leftovers. Still tasted the same as before. The staff is very attentive and provide excellent service. The weekday lunch specials are delicious & have good sized portions. The weekday lunch specials include an entree, a cup of soup of the day or a salad, Pad Thai, & jasmine rice. I have tried both red and green curry and thought both were excellent! You can choose a meat, vegetarian option (veggie or tofu), or shrimp to go in your entree. You can select your spice level. If you've never tried Thai cuisine or you are sensitive to spicier food, I would recommend getting a lower spice level. Some Thai dishes are pretty hot, especially if you aren't used to spicy food. My lunch special today was the green curry with shrimp ($13.99) which is a great deal. The food is always rich and flavorful at Nice Thai. I definitely recommend checking it out! read more

This is such a hidden gem in the Hampton Roads area! This restaurant is located in a modest strip mall but has the best Thai food I've ever had. I made a reservation the day before for six people and they were able to accommodate us without a problem. They gave us a free miso soup appetizer which was a great way to kick things off. Many people in my group had never had Thai food before and our waitress was very helpful and patient about recommending and explaining dishes. I decided to get the shrimp spring rolls and they were so fresh. The satay sauce that they came with was AMAZING. You could tell it was made in-house. I ordered the Thai iced tea as a drink and it was delicious and came in a huge glass. For the entree I went with the pad see ew and it was perfectly made. The only thing I could argue is that the portion could be a little bigger but it was very satisfying. Even though I was stuffed I ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert and it was delicious and beautifully presented. A perfect way to end this culinary adventure. Stop by if you can! read more

I have been told that two other Thai restaurants has been in its place, so Nice Thai Cuisine is the third, so hopefully three times a charm. Go support this business, because trust me, you want them to stick around! - Parking - Center lot. Not gonna lie, it's not in the best part of town, but aren't the gems always in the most unusual places? Yes or yes? - Vibe- It's not in the biggest space, and it's decorated like the typical Thai restaurants, with Thai trinkets and accents. There is a fish tank and touches of modern day styles like those metal chairs that everyone seems to have these days in restaurants. Look at my pics. You'll know what I mean. It's run by a wife and husband duo. The wife is the example of the Thai slogan, "Land of Smiles". She embodies Thai hospitality, soft spoken, very sweet and always smiling! The husband is very nice as well, although more reserved, but he comes from years of experience under Michelin star chefs back in Thailand. - Noms - They offer the classic Thai dishes that people have grown accustomed to, like pad Thai, curries, papaya salads, soups etc. However, if you are adventurous and want a peek into real Thai cuisine, the gems are found in the Chef's Specials, as well as, the specials of the week! I have my go-to when dining at Thai restaurants, but not here. Every time I go, I have either ordered from the Chef's Special or the Special of the week (because duh, it's only available this week)! Items I have tried: Chef's - Yen ta fo - street food - noodle soup characterized by the bright pink color Chef's - Three flavor fried flounder fish - I've had similar fried fish in other Thai restaurants (this was my go-to until I discovered the Specials of the week) Yum talay - warm seafood salad Chef's - Som tam with fermented fish - they do offer the regular one that is less pungent, but if you want to dive deeper, get this version! Chef's Hot pan lard na - served sizzling on a hot pan, they are fried served with seafood and veg. The sauce is quite simple, but really addictive! Special of the week: Cod fish flake with papaya salad - super crispy, becomes almost like a crumb if broken down Special of the week: Shrimp paste rice set - it reminded me of an omurice (Korean), but not really. The rice is wrapped in an omelet, but proteins are all served on the side, but Chef mixed it all up for us. Special of the week: Khao soi - fresh noodles served with curry Pad Thai - delicious! Red Curry - delicious! I recently also had this hot pot soup, almost like a pho, but not really, thicker broth, served with angel hair noodles on the side and all the fixins. Salmon curry - so a note about this dish. It served very haute cuisine-like. It's plated very differently, more on the side of a bougie restaurant, with swirls of sauce on the plate and little edible flowers. You know the kind? And it was delicious! Also a note about the Specials of the Week, these dishes are always presented in a unique way, table side, so it adds to the anticipation and excitement before you start eating. That's what I look forward to the most. Sauces are always poured in front of you or they offer to mix or prepare it a certain way. It's just amazing! So, yeah, I go often and not ashamed of it one bit! Take my money! Hands down, one of the most interesting places to eat in the area. I cannot recommend them enough. It's alway a pleasant surprise eating here. I've been to Thailand a few times, and if you can't book a ticket anytime soon, just take a trip to Chesapeake. It's the next best thing! Todays our last in the VA area and out of all the spots we ate at so far this was our fave They even have 2 diff kinds of ladna/lardna which was impressive because we know not many Thai places even have it on their menu We tried the hot pan lad na and this was such a unique experience for us! The flat noodle was fried crispy and they pour the gravy on top so make it nice and soft too The drunken noodle was great! They use fresh flat noodle and the beef was the highlight as it was so nice and tender! The veggie might be my only complaint as it wasn't as fresh, the yellow peppers were a little bitter but overall great experience the hot chili spices and vinegar condiment is how you know they're authentic!! read more

We have been having a hard time finding our go-to Thai spot for takeout in the area. We came across Nice Thai on Yelp and saw the great ratings and had high hopes. Don't get me wrong, nothing was bad, but I think our expectations are elevated after living in Hawaii for many years. I ordered my usual - chicken satay and beef bad see ew. I also got the crab delights because I'm always looking for a good crab rangoon option. The crab delights were probably my favorite. Even as a to-go order, they were crispy and very flavorful. The chicken satay was just a tad bit overcooked and dry, but the flavor was good and the sauces were great. The pad see ew was unfortunately not prepared very well. The noodles were very gooey and stuck together and none of the veggies were cooked. The carrots were cut super thick so still overly crunchy... the middles were completely raw. The beef also didn't taste very high-quality. We may try again when we can come to the restaurant and experience it there, but for $60 (including door dash tip and fees), this meal wasn't worth it to us. read more

Came in for dinner service, our server Mookie made our entire dinner amazing! She was such a delight, super attentive and always running around making sure everyone was taken care of. There was a bit of a rush when we were there but she didn't flinch. The food was very generous portions and very flavorful! It is absolutely ridiculous how good Nice Thai is. If you're a sports fan, this is like checking out Nikola Jokic before tip-off. At first glance, despite being 7' tall, Jokic doesn't look like he could hang with high school ballers. But once you see him play, you quickly realize his immense talent and cannot wait for him to do something awesome. Nice Thai is similar to Jokic - their food belies the optics. Nice Thai's game is nice from all aspects. Nice Thai is tucked away in the Chesapeake Crossing Shopping Center. Chesapeake Crossing has seen better days - there are empty suites scattered about and it looks run down. Thus, it's one of the low volume retail areas. Regardless, Nice Thai is a gem that clearly stands out as they provide some of the best Thai food in the area, and they do so with pride. My understanding is Nice Thai is run by Chef Rattpon and her husband. This pair are the epitome of nice - they live up to their name by providing numerous table visits and giving out complimentary dishes as they deem fit. Even though they have a set menu, they will sometimes whip up stuff simply based on mood and with whatever ingredients they have lying around. On nearly every visit, they've given out complimentary cups of soup just for being at the right place at the right time. Also, they happily prepare dishes to accommodate their clientele. This proved true when I had their delicious Kra Prao Moo Sub Kai Dao. They serve it with a fried egg, but the next time I ordered it I did so by requesting a sunny side up egg. Obviously, it's best to ask first if you have special requests and/or dietary restrictions, but they are eager to please and readily made that small adjustment for me. This Ted Lasso-esque approach also is evident with their wait staff. Tonya served us during our inaugural visit on 3/28/23 (Tonya was equal parts loquacious, funny and kind) and we've been blessed with equally friendly service by two other servers on 4/21/23 and 6/3/23. Last but not least, Nice's food is incredible. Outside of the Kra Prao Moo Sub Kai Dao, my mom and I have enjoyed the following: Basil Stir Fry, Drunken Noodles, Fresh Rolls, Thai Style Pork Fried Rice, Golden Duck Curry (unreal!), Pork Pad Thai, Crispy Garlic Chicken, Crab Fried Rice with Omelet (good gracious!), Seafood Pad Thai, Fried Spring Rolls & Thai Tea (which, based on my experience, has free refills). Each dish was delicious and you can taste the love and care that's put into each dish. Right now, Nice Thai and Suphan are 1 and 1a as far best CoVa Thai restaurants. I've read and heard good things about Taste of Thai on the Boulevard, so I need to try them out soon.
