Sawadee is a great experience all around. The food tasted great & the is always cooked fresh to perfection. This one is a hole in the wall restaurant cooked authentically and the whole staff is Thai. They always have great deals and again the food is amazing. I randomly found this out by fellow Yelp Elite members so i said lemme try this out and Ive been coming back eversince. Ive brough family and friends here and they agree its better than the local chain Thai restaurants we have in the area. On top of the excellent food, the service was super attentive. He was very friendly, asked if we had any questions and checked on us several times. As for the ambiance, because its a hole in the wall dont expect something bougie. Its very reminiscent of South East Asia though. But when you look past that the Food Experience is worth much more. Yelp Elite Tip: If you like Pad Thai, check out their Pad See Eww, Its more moist and flavorful version of Pad Thai.

    CRAB RANGOON

I won't be coming back. My friend and I went for lunch and we ordered crab Rangoons, pad Thai and panang curry. We wanted chicken, but they only had an option for ground chicken so we got pork. When the food came out, it looked appetizing but as soon as I took the first bite, I knew I wouldn't be coming back. The pad Thai tasted like it was only seasoned with soy sauce and salt, and there was no taste of the pad Thai seasoning. The curry tasted like coconut milk, and salt. The pork itself was the most disgusting pork I have ever tried. It tasted like something out of a can and kind of resembled spam meat. I am not a picky eater, and I usually eat everything that is served to me, but this is the first time that I left without taking home leftovers. We left more than half of the meal untouched because we simply could not eat it. Safe to say I will not be coming back if you're looking for a good Thai place this is not it.

I really enjoyed my lunch here! I was craving some Thai food and when I was looking for some dining options and mentioned Sawasdee to my friend and dining partner, she said that she hadn't had been there in awhile but remembered it was good, so off we went! It's not in the best location, but don't let that fool you. The interior does look a little dated, the fish tank has only one creature. There were a few boxes in one of the areas of the restaurant to the right that once seemed to serve as additional seating area, but everything was still neat, tidy and clean, just worn a little. - Parking - Private lot. I came in from the side street, but the restaurant is on East VB Blvd which is a busy street. - Noms - We glanced at the menu quickly, but asked our very courteous server what his recs were. We ended up ordering the following: House soup - this little bowl is complimentary with every meal, a light chicken broth with ground chicken and rice. It had notes of ginger and a great way to start the meal. It was topped with some fried crispy things. Curry Puffs - These reminded me of a samosa, but shaped more like a dumpling. Served with sweet chili sauce, came 5 pieces to an order. I would definitely get this again. Very flavorful and the wrapping was delicious! Whole fried pompano - it was a special that day or week. There was a choice of whole tilapia and whole snapper too, but we opted for pompano because my friend hadn't had it in a long time and I never had it before! It was fried whole, topped with a tasty sauce and the fish was light and very flavorful. Any time I see a whole fried fish on the menu, I get it and I've never been disappointed! Eggplant stir fry with tofu - The star of the dish is eggplant, so we opted for the protein to be plant based as well. I could seriously drink that sauce! The tofu is fried and the eggplant was cooked so perfectly! Eggplant stir fry is a go-to dish for me as well and the way they make it at Sawasdee was just right! Mas sa mun curry with chicken (allergy warning) - this is a curry with a peanut and coconut milk base, topped with whole roasted peanuts. No complaints about this dish either! Well done. Thai tea - For a sweet girl, this I thought was a tad too sweet, but I still enjoyed it! I let the ice melt a little and it was fine after that. Still tasty! Looks can be deceiving. The place looks dated and signage looks faded, but look past it and explore their offerings! I've been to Thailand twice and their food made me miss Thailand all over again! Go out and support and enjoy!

Delicious Thai Food. Love this place! Nice service. This is a Thai Restaurant that has a very good atmosphere.

    Pineapple Pad Thai

One of our favorite Thai restaurants whenever I am in Norfolk, the starter congee was still so good. We ordered pineapple pad thai got it wrong a little since the pineapple made it really strong sour taste. Penang curry still the best and the fried tofu so good must try. Only did not like the sticky rice and mango. The mango is not good more of a mexican mango and the coconut sauce was so watery not thick. Service was good and the place improved w food display to help others to visualize. I go for 4.5 if there is. Must try place.

It's been a while since I've eaten at Sawasdee and food is great as usual! The only complaint is that the server seemed to be very inexperienced... we had to ask for water and utensils and was constantly trying to get his attention for service. The place is nicely decorated and had a welcoming presence. Overall, great food but need some work on service.

Haven't been here in 6-7years but decided to order takeout. We ordered basil beef fried rice and it was good but didn't taste like traditional basil fried rice because it was made with jasmine rice and didn't have much of a basil taste. We also got chicken red curry and it was delicious and tasty. We also ordered basil beef stir fry but just like the fried rice it didn't have the traditional basil taste, tastes more like just beef stir fry. Highly recommend they kick up the traditional Thai basil taste. I ordered all dishes this hot and it was definitely spicy like we love.

Thanks Yoonie for your review, this spot was awesome! We enjoyed our "linner" tremendously. The atmosphere was pleasant, the restaurant was clean, the service was great and the food was outstanding! We will be returning because there were a few items I wanted to try.

This is a popular spot for me and family to go to. The crab-fried rice is good, but I love the drunken noodles. I eat them by themselves or sometimes with crab or shrimp. I highly recommend their Thai tea.

We've dined here many times over the years, and one thing keeps bringing us back--the food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. We started the evening with an order of Chicken Satay served with a creamy peanut dipping sauce. The chicken arrived perfectly grilled, tender, and piping hot. The peanut sauce had just enough spice to complement the savory flavors without overpowering them. It was an excellent way to begin the meal. For our entrée, we decided to split an order of Chicken Pad Thai. Bangkok Garden offers several spice levels to accommodate every palate, but we kept it simple tonight and chose Level 3. It turned out to be the perfect choice--mild enough to appreciate the balance of flavors, yet with just enough heat to keep things interesting. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly, the chicken was tender, and the combination of eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, garlic, and cabbage created a dish that was both satisfying and full of authentic Thai flavor. A squeeze of fresh lime and a sprinkle of crushed peanuts brought everything together beautifully. If you're a fan of authentic Thai cuisine--or if you've been looking for a great place to experience it for the first time--Bangkok Garden is well worth a visit. Consistently excellent food, generous portions, and friendly service have kept us coming back, and I suspect they'll do the same for you. By supporting restaurants like Bangkok Garden, you're also supporting the local businesses that help make Hampton Roads such a great place to dine. Overall: Highly recommended.
