Rating: 2.5 Food: 2.5 Ambiance: 2 Service: 3 We had dinner here after my son's basketball practice because it was close by. When we came in I asked to use the restroom and was told it was broken, then was told to go across the street to the hotel to use their restroom. I don't know if I'm being unreasonable, but shouldn't they have called a plumber before dinner service? And were all the restrooms broken? What were the staff doing when they had to go? Anyway, I decided that everyone could have a bad day and didn't allow it to deter me from giving the food a chance. The Ambiance: The actual restaurant was dark (in a bad way) and sort of sad. They have beautiful dark wood French doors that they put a sushi bar in front of rendering them useless. Generic tables. Cafeteria style plastic cups. Just very basic. Which surprised me given the prime real estate of the location. A real wasted opportunity. It felt like that space was once a beautiful, fancy young lady that aged and got dumped by her lover then let herself go after shacking up with a lesser man. And it had a weird smell. The Food: We started with a few appetizers. Beef Sate, Tiger's Tear, Nom Sodd and Golden Shrimp. *The Beef Sate had a weird texture, and the flavor was meh. *The Tiger's Tear was so overly seasoned that you couldn't taste the beef at all. We could have been eating a shoe for all we knew. *This is the first time we have tried Nom Sodd, but the ingredients sounded like all things we liked. Just like the Tiger Tear, it was really aggressively seasoned and super sour. I like lime juice just as much as the next gal, but I probably could have removed my nail polish with the acidity in this dish. *The Golden Shrimp seemed like the safe bet. Whole shrimp and pork filling in a egg roll wrapper? How could it go wrong? We all know that pretty much anything is good if its deep fried. However, I took one bite of this and the shrimp inside had the entire "sand" vein intact. I thought maybe I got unlucky and happened to get the one little guy that got overlooked, but no. I took another one and ended with another mouth full of shrimp "you-know-what." For entrees we ordered the Kang Kai (red curry chicken), and Thai Noodles with Chicken. These were both decent enough, so if I was forced to go back I would likely choose one of them. But neither were special enough to go back for. The Service: The lady that served us was polite enough. She even made an attempt to engage our 5 year old son. However, there was some awkwardness when ordering our drinks. We ordered a cold sake to share and 2 beers (1 each). I don't know if it was a language barrier thing, but she repeatedly questioned the fact that we would each need a beer after having ordered the sake, and after confirming the order several times in several ways, we still only ended up with one. And when I finally got my beer it tasted skunky. Needless to say, we skipped dessert and asked for the check. I don't expect to ever go back. read more

The interior of the Thai Cafe needs an update. It is dark and a bit outdated, but this restaurant remains a Main Street staple. Their pad thai is my favorite, and I have eaten pad thai from the competitor, Michael's Thai, as well as Bangkok Bangkok's pad thai. Their gyoza is always good and their Thai donuts are my favorite. I've never had a problem with their wait staff, but have yet to try their sushi bar or curry selections. Prices are fair considering the area and the food is always fresh. The salads are served on a large salad plate with plenty of ginger dressing. This isn't a large place, so big parties may have trouble with seating. It very, very small. There is usually a sports game on at the smaller sushi bar and though Thai Cafe doesn't deliver, it does do takeout orders. If you're in the area, this quiet little place is worth checking out. read more

I am staying at the hotel across the street and wanted something other than steak. The reviews for the chicken pad thai seemed good so I walked over and ordered it to take out. They said it would be ready in ten minutes. It was. I didn't venture in but noticed this is a fusion restaurant where the people who own it are probably mostly Thai or Chinese but decided to try and conquer sushi also. I got back to my room and opened the stapled brown bag. I had a tray of food and no napkin or utensils, and no fortune cookie. Ha. But seriously they could have thrown in a pair of chopsticks or a napkin at least. The food was ok. Nothing earth-shattering. I had not asked for spicy and indeed there was no heat to it. Came here the other day for lunch with a friend. She wanted to take me to another place for sushi (because thats what we were in the mood for) but unfortunately that place was closed for lunch. Since I don't know the area at all and she does I told her to choose another place to grab some sushi. She took me to Thai Cafe. It's in a great location on Main Street, with plenty of shops just a hop, skip and a jump and away. Upon walking in, I could have sworn I saw a tumbleweed rolling by. There wasn't a single customer in the restaurant...which was kind of nice and also off putting at the same time. We ordered a few different things and they came out relatively quickly, as would be expected considering we were the only customers there. The Kani-Su that I had was delicious but the Geisha roll left something to be desired. It's a deep fried roll but it seemed to have to much tempura and was slightly on the burnt side. read more

I have been coming to Thai cafe for over 10 years and I absolutely love their crispy duck, it is always amazing. I enjoy the atmosphere and the waiters are kind and offer a good service. I wish I could actually review the food, but it was not to be this night. I arrived at around 9:00pm with my wife to a half-full restaurant. There was still quite awhile until the restaurant closed, so it's not like we were cutting it close. We were seated and handed menus. And that was it. No one ever came back. We waited for about 15 minutes all told, made eye contact with the two waiters a number of times and decided the final straw was when the couple that came in after gave their drink orders. This is probably one of my fav haunts since i first moved to miami. For south east asians living here, i would recommend the special fried rice and the pad woon sen.. trust me, you cant go wrong with that. Of cos, you cant compare with what u can find back home but its close enough.. Most importantly, the staff.. super friendly and accomodating. oh oh omg.. u guys must try the thai ice tea.. its super awesome.. Very comfortable booths and delicious food. The only downside is that it's a little expensive depending on the entrée. The servers were nice and the lady at the entrance is extremely sweet. I came here for lunch, since I work in the area. My coworkers and I are always looking for new places to try on Fridays (We call them Adventure Friday's). We looked at the menu and it looked promising. We ordered ahead to take out since we were pressed on time today. We arrived and were immediately welcomed with the smell of rotting food (it looked clean, but we didn't pass the hostess table). I'm not sure what the smell was (possibly the sushi bar), but it was concerning. We paid for our food (plus they charge $2 for a cup of brown rice!) and immediately left. I ordered the sautéed beef with broccoli and it lacked flavor. Plus the container smelled of the restaurant! My coworkers ordered the Curry Chicken and got 3 pieces of chicken in a soup of curry sauce. They reported the food to lack flavor as well. Recommendations: Thai Sate - Appetizer. Seven dollars. A small oven of fire brought to you to put your choice of 5 beef or chicken on sticks, and delicious peanut sauce to dip them in. Good to mix with a side order of $3 rice to fill you up. Chicken/Beef Fried Rice - Best rice i have tasted out of the 3 thai restaurants in miami lakes ( Silver Spoon, Thai Cafe, and King and I ) it costs 10 dollars, is a big portion and can feed two people at times. Also the best rice i have tasted out of many asian places. Garlic Chicken - My girlfriend's favorite. The sauce on this order is amazing. Thai Donuts - Delicious. Best dessert hands down. This cozy Thai Restaurant is phenomenal! They have a welcoming staff and there is constant movement of customers. I believe the Thai Restaurant makes the most amazing sushi rolls. I've tried the california and dragon rolls! They don't compare to any other sushi restaurant I've been to. They garnish the California roll with caviar and the dragon roll has a combination of flavors garnished with a slice of avocado on each roll. The miso soup is another of my favorites to order! The chicken fried rice is cooked to order with a heaping pill of delicious steaming love! They also have edamame that is steamed to perfection and goes well with some hot saki:) all and all the Thai restaurant is my first choice when it comes to real quality in food! If you've never been here before I suggest you order chicken sate, so you can get a taste for the flavors they create . I've never had the sushi here but people come in here ordering it all the time. This is by far my favorite Thai place in Miami. My girlfriend and I have been going here since we first started dating. The food is delicious and service is great...very friendly.
