3 Stars for a decent lunch at a reasonable price. A downtown spot I haven't tried yet? Sign me up! We started with summer rolls which were good but not anything special. Sometimes something as simple as presentation can elevate a seemingly unremarkable dish to another level, but the presentation just wasn't there. That being said- it was lunch and they were busy so I don't fault them. I ordered the drunken noodles based on the servers recommendation. He mentioned that they're the only restaurant that uses those particular noodles for that dish. I really loved the texture of the noodles (flat and wide) and the fish was not bad (maybe a tad salty, but it wasn't offensive). The only big issue I had was finding multiple egg shells in the dish. Once I found one I felt compelled to inspect each bite and just kept finding small fragments. Cracks happen. Egg shells sometimes slip through. But it was something that turned me off from the meal and I didn't end up finishing the leftovers I took home. In the end three stars is fitting because it was "A-OK." I probably won't seek it out again but wouldn't mind if someone wanted to meet there for a meal. read more

This is a low profile little Thai cafe in downtown Orlando. This place serves up consistently good Thai food. The seating is sort of small, but the line of people picking up "to go" orders is pretty long. The staff moves fast with that, so it looks like a good place to pop in and grab a take out order. For table service the speed is a bit slower. The place is slammed with customers at lunchtime so the staff did well to accommodate getting everyone's orders in a timely manner. I've tried the red curry here before, it's really lovely. Today I had the spring rolls and the beef noodle soup. The spring rolls were good, just what you would expect; fresh, crispy, and delicious. The beef noodle soup was like Vietnamese pho, but without all the extra veggies, it was simple and so so good. It warmed up my soul. Lean tender beef, rice noodles, savory broth, cilantro, and chopped green onion-perfectly simple and so many dimensions of flavor. The soup bowl was huge and lunch was really reasonable. I would come here again in a heartbeat. I was eyeing the basil eggplant stir fry with rice for next time. Definitely coming back here! read more

All the ingredients are there but the flavor needs improvment. I've walked by this restaurant a few times and finally decided to try it out. My husband ordered the Thai basil with chicken and I the penang with beef. The food came out and looked delicious. The curry sauce was very tasty and the vegetables were hot but still crunchy. However, the beef was more like old leather. Honestly one of the toughest things I've ever had to chew. It was to the point that my jaw was sore and I had a tooth ache at the end of the meal. My husband dish was cooked well, the chicken was tender and juicy. But the sauce was very bland. It tasted similar to what my attempt of making stir fry would taste like. The restaurant was also very boring. Few items on the walls, bare tables, and it was very very quiet. It was because there was only one other customer, it was because ther wasn't any music. I usually do not notice music, unless it's ridiculously loud, but it was very eerie sitting in such silence. I will say that the staff was very kind and attentive. read more

Over 10 years working in Downtown Orlando and I just finally had a chance to eat here for lunch! Shame shame! It's small and unassuming and off the beaten path. The two times I have been here have only been because I was running errands at the post office and this place is directly across the street. Also, this place has strict lunch hours as they close at 3pm and then reopen later for dinner service. I have usually arrived around 2ish to an empty restaurant but have never felt rushed. I'm a creature of comfort and judge every thai restaurant by their pad thai. ;) This dish passes my test. I usually get with veggies. They also serve a small salad with peanut dressing that is included . It's nothing special- just a few pieces of iceberg lettuce with a watery peanut dressing. The pad thai is a super large portion (with zucchini and broccoli thrown in) and I have always had 1/2 a plate to go for leftovers. For all of this food my total is always around $8.50 before tip. First time going as I was wondering the downtown area looking for something to eat and man I was glad I bumped into this place because I was not disappointed . I ordered the curry shrimp with potatoes and onions and was glad I did . The potatoes and the onions were so flavorful and spicy just the way I like it . Before the meal itself came it was the small salad with some type of dressing that have it a nice pop to it. The meal was not pocket piercing but yet was very flavorful. Food was awesome. We ordered a seafood soup with medium spice. It was a bit too spicy for me and I usually like spicy. My friend thought it was just right. Their dumplings are great and we tried the appetizer platter which was a little taste of everything. It's a small place with adequate parking. The service was over and above. Ambiance you really don't care about as the food is so good. We ask them to turn down the TV as it was right over our booth and they complied. Everyone was very courteous and made us feel like they appreciated us as customers. Great place! We will try it again! read more

Found this place on a whim. Nothing fancy, but the food is pretty solid. The host and servers are nice and attentive to your dining needs. They make excellent suggestions upon request. Ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken and shrimp which was very tasty. The shrimp pad Thai was good, but not the best I've ever had. The pad Thai noodles were just a tad overcooked. However, the seasoning was spot on. I also came in close to closing time, so this may have been the issue, but was treated kindly and fed well. When deciding where to order food, I couldn't figure out how this place could have high reviews with several people stating the pad Thai was the worst..... We decided to give it a try, despite the one-offs. They do have good ratings, after all. Well, it IS, literally, the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. I can only presume this is one of the places you have to catch at the right time, with the right cook, because the backup cook is horrible; assuming the food is as good as rated, normally. How else could they have any good reviews. Neither dish was spicy, seasoned, or flavorful at ALL. The pad Thai noodles were overcooked and mushy. Considering it didn't really have any flavor, it's hard to describe why it was so bad.. but it was like one of those frozen imitation dishes you regret buying at the grocery store that end up tasting vaguely like bile. I came by with my sister and we were in an out in 34 minutes which was perfect because we only put 36 minutes on the meter! We were quickly seated and our drink orders taken. We each got an appetizer, the cheese rolls and chicken satay. My cheese rolls were crispy, hot, and delicious. My sister's chicken satay were pretty big and juicy, the sauce they came with nice and peanutty. We both ordered the pad Thai for our entree, mine spicy of course, and it was pretty average. Make sure to let them cool off, everything comes directly from taken out of the kitchen so it's HOT! I had the drunken noodles with chicken on this visit and they were delicious. I could not stop eating even after I was full. Great flavor and the noodles were the perfect texture. Only change I would make would to be add more onion but that is because i'm obsessed with onions. Went to this place for lunch with some coworkers, being that I am big Thai food fan, I was excited. The exterior may be a little bland but I'm not one to judge a book by its cover. The waiter who sat us wasn't very responsive and seemed quite uninterested. I worked in the service industry for a number of years so this kind of service can get under my skin. But again I thought I'd let it slide. We have our orders and our food came out at a decent pace. The salad and the dressing was just O.K. and my spring rolls were just okay. So again I thought I'll let it slide, surly there has to be a reason why this place has been in business and stays in business downtown. I ordered Pad Se Ew, others ordered Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Seafood and rice (shrimp and scallops), and Orange Curry. When the meal was all said and done everything was just as the facade of the business suggested, plain. One of my favorite lunch places ever downtown. Would be great for dinner too! Our lunch group all ordered different items, so we got to taste around, but I have to say mine was the best. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and mmm mmm good they were. Egg type noodles with chicken, basil, and onions, DELICIOUS! The peanut curry, pad thai, and fried rice were also dynamite! Staff is very sweet, and can handle a big group of people which is important. In addition prices on the dishes are fantastic, and I spent $7 for my lunch, which is superb in Downtown Orlando. I've visited this location twice -- both times for business lunches. The exterior is a non-descript store front but I know that looks can be deceiving. Sadly, my experiences at Thai Cafe have been similarly unimpressive. On both occasions, I ordered tofu curries. On both occasions I was underwhelemed by a plate of bland curry sauce that was congealed and cold by the time it arrived at my table. The vegetables and tofu were ultimately tasteless and boring. Indeed, I had asked for my curry "Thai hot" on both occasions and there was no hint of heat in either dish. Service was poor. Both my companion and I ordered unsweetened tea on my most recent visit. We received sweet tea and our server seemed quite annoyed when we politely asked him to bring us unsweetened tea, There were other hiccups but we definitely got the sense that we were vey much inconveniencing our server just by sitting at his table. I give Thai Café a second star because it does seem clean. That said, I will very much try to avoid going back to Thai Café again. read more

I have ordered from Thai cafe a couple of times for lunch, usually when I don't have time to go out for lunch at work. I have also dined in at the restaurant one or two times. The restaurant is pretty small and can get pretty crazy during busy hours. When I do take out, some of the times, it took them some time to get me my food and cash me out. The food is pretty decent here. It is not amazing but is okay if you're looking for a quick Thai dish. I almost always order the pineapple fried rice from here. Sometimes, it tastes amazing and other times, it tastes alright. I do love that the shrimp in this dish is JUMBO and they have cranberries and fresh pineapple in the dish. The fruits add some freshness to the fried rice. The portion is also very generous. It usually serves as two meals for me. I have also ordered the tom yum seafood salad that also comes with rice (brown rice available). This dish is very fishy which I understand may not be for everyone, but it is pretty delicious to me. It comes with a variety of seafood drenched in fish sauce and sprinkled with cilantro. It is pretty spicy and can be made hotter if you ask for it. I took off two stars because 1. the taste is rarely ever consistent here 2. they take a while to check you out for take out orders, even if you call ahead. I think that there are better Thai restaurants in town. But if you're downtown and looking for Thai food, then this place is an okay option. read more
