I spent 20 years in Anderson back in the 70's&80's. There wasn't much around back then to feast on. Aunt Fannies's and A&W were the best places for young people. I recall the building coming in where this restaurant lives today. I'm sorry I missed a good amount of time eating here. First off, you get to walk over the bridge and watch all the koi swimming around. Great for old and new kids. The restaurant interior is definitely Chinese but not overly gaudy. It's clean without much clutter. There are booths and table and chairs. The last 3 times we have come in for the Lunch Specials. I believe that ends at 3pm M-F Not disappointed at all by the menu for anytime of the day. The lunches are well proportioned for $12,035 to $14.00 First you get a small bowl of soup de jour. We have always had good chicken Egg Drop soup. Then comes an Egg Roll. 1 for each lunch served, with hot mustard and sweet & sour sauce. I had Black Bean Sauce Beef with Pork Fried Rice. Lots of rice and just enough beef for me. I couldn't eat it all. My husband banks on that. He had Broccoli Beef with steamed rice and in 20 minutes his plate was empty. There were people coming and going while we were there. It seems most were local. The friendly waitress just adds to the delight of the restaurant. I really liked Peacock before they changed hands. Now, at least from my point of view, my main complaint is their Chow Mein. What they serve is, in my estimation, Lo Mein. Soft noodles are Lo Mein and crisp noodles are Chow Mein. I'm 80 years old and can remember eating Chinese for at least 65 of those years. Starting in Chicago, then dozens of places after that. They just changed ownership and I have to say how disappointing this place is from how it was. I went today for this first time since the new owners took over and I can tell you I will not go back. The cup of soup was 1/3 cup full on both. The combination only comes with rice or chow mein now at lunch lunchtime along with an egg roll. The eggroll was flavorless and mushy on the inside. My chow mein consisted of a bigger noodle with two pieces of cabbage add one tiny piece of chicken about the size of a pea. The sweet-and-sour pork was OK, but the pineapple was cold and they were breading really small pieces of pork. The best part about this place was their hot mustard. I had to ask three times for water while we were there eating. Sad to say, but Panda Express has more vegetables in their chow mein and better food overall. Sad to see the old Peacock restaurant is gone. This one is a completely horrible. They obviously are more concerned about making money than serving a good product to the public with adequate vegetables and quality. read more

If there was a lesser score that would have fit I would used it. The food was terrible. The fried riced was red and tasted like cinnamon and had NO vegitables. The general and sesame chicken were the exact same except for the seeds. We had to wave them down anytime we needed water, we went on the hunt for our own to go boxes just so we could take home the food for our chickens. Had lunch here the other day. Hot and sour soup was good. Pork and green beans was good. General Chicken was ALL BREADING - could not find the chicken but did find cartilage - ick!! Egg rolls fresh but not much inside them. Fried rice - meh... Chow mein bland, thick noodles, few veggies. Service was fast and pleasant, booth seats comfy. Peacock Chinese Restaurant is kinda convient for me as it's located in Anderson about half way between Red Bluff and Redding. I got some food to go to take to a friend's house in Redding. You can spot the place easy cause it's right next to the Motel 6. I think it used to be a Denny's with the large high sign shaped like the Denny's logo. They installed a big fish pond out front. I got a few things, pot stickers, General's Chicken, Tomato Beef chow mein and beef chow fun. All the food was real hot and weighed a lot as I took it out to my car. All the food stayed hot till I got to my friends house, except the pot stickers, they lose heat sort of fast. All the food was decent, maybe not the best I ever had, but for small town Chinese it was pretty good. I'd stop here again. Very easy on and off the freeway. read more

I absolutely love the old Peacock Chinese restaurant. It was authentic tasting Chinese food. Since this new ownership has taken care of I will probably not return. My favorite was the house fried rice with large pieces of meat in it. I went this time and not only was the rice difference but there were little tiny micro cut up bits of beef and ham. ​ it was dry and unappealing. Went for the first time today after a change of ownership. They are so cheap. Egg rolls are like sawdust, noodles in the chow mein are almost as big around as a pencil & very few vegetables. Sweet and sour pork was mostly the dough and very little pork in the pieces. It was like they're trying to fill you up on all the cheap stuff dough, noodles and it was awful. To start with the Menus are paper.. smelled stuffy/strange upon entering. Booth was super sticky. We were given one soy sauce packet per person. Crab cheese wontons had minimal filling it just tasted like dough. Had to ask for hot mustard. Ordered scezhuan beef it was super chewy. Chow mein fishy tasting. General chicken was mainly breading. Small portions as well. Nobody finished there dish and we were never offered to go boxes. Wouldn't have taken anyways. Waitress never returned after dropping off food. Terrible service and food. The fried rice looked like they cleaned the fridg of leftovers, the rice even had tiny shrimp which was a real turn off. We got take out and nobody could eat the food. THAT BAD! Absolutely, without a doubt, the worst service on the planet. Asked for soy sauce for the table, and got 1. Asked for more, and got 1 more, with a dirty look and attitude. Drinks were served in 32 oz cups, and then when we asked for to-go cups upon leaving we got another dirty look and one cup. Asked for another cup, and got another dirty look and more attitude. She said, we don't give out cups with dine-in orders. Said we would be happy to pay for the cups and the soy sauce but got another dirty look and more attitude. I've been coming here for 15 years and when it's good it's good. But half the time it's just mediocre. Tried all the local spots in Anderson and it's sad to say it's the best IMO even on there off days.. would also be nice that soup of the day that comes with dine in meals was sent with the pick up orders. read more

Food is always great my favorite restaurant.... but on 9,5,23 went in at 8 was told to order immediately or I wouldn't be served didn't get soup? And had a 4.50 upcharge for some reason dealing with the time didn't make any sense. Spent almost 80 dollars on 4 meal deals that cost 12.50 or less on the menu and while waiting in the lobby cause we were told they Closed at 830.... they shut all the lights in the building off while I was waiting 10 more minutes for my food. Horrible experience absolutely ruined about 20 years of amazing for me very disappointed. And I don't usually do this review stuff but felt like I had to. read more
