The best Thai in maybe the entire world including Thai land. I love Thai chili my dad used to call and they would say hi peter and know his order. We always get the pad Thai and the red curry and lots of white rice and sometimes the fresh rolls or sometimes my mom would want the spring rolls. Small, cozy restaurant in downtown Maynard. Reliable & consistent. Friendly staff and good service. We have been dozens & dozens of times over a decade and have enjoyed the soups, appetizers and meals. Vegetables taste fresh every time, generous portion size, nice flavors. I've visited Thailand - so I understand the comment some people make that it may taste a bit sweeter & less pungent, but I still think this place is a great choice. The best Thai food in New England... Trust me, I'm an expert. I've been to nearly every Thai place in a 100 mile radius, and plenty in other parts of the country. Living in a primarily Thai dorm in prep school I became an addict and have not looked back since. Surprisingly, this little place in my back yard is the best I've experienced (outside of a few home-cooked meals). Meals are consistent, food is authentic and delicious, and the service is always excellent. Don't judge a book by its cover; from outside this doesn't look like much, but it really is an experience. Good food! Weird rice policy. We ordered rice, which was brought in a large container and dished out individually by the server. The container was then whisked away, only to come back with the server who inquired if we wanted more later in the meal. I've never had rice handled this way, and it struck me as sort of strange that they don't leave it and let you help yourself throughout the meal. Thai iced tea was sort of "meh." Vegetables with peanut sauce were delicious, and I grossly overate. I'm a straight sucker for peanut sauce. Overall a good meal. Yelp calls two stars "Meh, I've experienced better", and that's exactly how I feel about Thai Chili. We usually eat at Thai Jasmine in Westford but hubby was working late in Littleton so I looked around for where I could get him some takeout. I ordered the pad see ew, yellow curry, and a green salad since they were out of fresh rolls. The takeout service was fine, but when I arrived the restaurant had a bad smell, like old cooking grease. Not encouraging. When we opened our food, the green salad was mostly wilted or downright rotted leaves of bagged spring mix - a bad start. The yellow curry was thin, watery, overly sweet, and had very little curry flavor. Mostly onions and few veggies. The pad see ew was mediocre at best, with soggy overcooked broccoli and an uninspired sauce that lacked the usual flavors of this dish. I love pad thai. I know that it's the quintessential thai dish - the one that every thai noobie gets - but I don't care. I order it almost every time now. Rewind to the not so distant past. I had never tried Thai food, enjoyed chinese and Japanese but Thai food concerned me. Understand i have an abnormal prejudice against vegetables; Thai food is filled with them! My hatred is admittingly unreasonable but even without therapy I'm slowly but surely taking positive steps toward normalcy and shedding my carnivorous-like palate. Thai Chili, my first experience. I nervously scrutinized the menu, ugh vegetables abound-all kinds! There were those which i knew i hated, those which i knew i would hate and those which were unknown but i reasonably suspected i would hate. Waitress came, i asked for a recommendation, "Pad Thai" she responded. Quickly i scanned for the description, noodles, eggs, chicken, cashews. "Ill take it". I thoroughly enjoyed my soup after pushing aside annoying floaty green things. My plate came. Wow, it was huge. I felt the warmth rise to my face bringing a wonderful new exotic aroma: spicy, sweet, complex. The heaping food glistened, i saw thick noodles, chicken and non-worrisome easily discard-able green things and tofu. I was happ...Whats this?! No No No! I had never tried a sprout. Not so much because of the potential taste, i had been told they have no taste (which begs the question why ruin meals by adding them) but it was specifically the appearance. Ive had this...thing about them. They remind me of...how can i say, should i say...ummm well its rather crass and disgusting so ill skip. Seeing them always disturbed me. What to do? Its nearly impossible to eat around them, removing them would prove impossible in any reasonable amount of time! I have in the past eaten such things when politeness absolutely required it-such as a banquet dinner for the queen. What to do here? I ate. Fast forward. I judge every Thai restaurant by the quality of their Pad Thai-sprouts and all. But im finding i can find no better than Thai Chilli's. Could this be? Can this tiny place really have the best in all the land? Seems more rational that ive come to love the Pad Thai here in part because it was my first. The food here flits between being solid, good food, and something a bit off. It's disconcerting. I've had tasty, well-cooked fried rice with tender chicken. I've likewise had burnt, over-fried rice with dried out chicken. It's sometimes a gamble here then: which version of the fried rice am I going to receive? Their appetizers are good, at least. The spring rolls are utterly delicious and the chicken satay comes with fantastic peanut sauce. The restaurant itself is small and poorly lit. The layout doesn't work well, frankly, and the service can be spotty at times. I mostly order out. Nothing to love, really. Nothing to hate, but Thai Chili really has to do better. read more

My family has been coming to this restaurant for over twenty years. The owner and sometimes chef knows all of us by name, and knows exactly what we always order. I have two words to say about this place: PEANUT SAUCE. OMG the peanut sauce they have here is the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. I always get the absolutely delicious Chicken Satay appetizers (the chicken is always juicy and flavorful) and it comes with peanut sauce. Actually, I always order extra and put it on the Pad Thai - which is also excellent. Their spring rolls and summer rolls (with peanut sauce!) are fabulous as well. This is the first time I have ever ordered Asian food over the phone or to go and was not told "10 minutes" in a very loud voice! They actually said "20 minute!" Dumpling appetizer very small delicate with I believe a mixture of shrimp and something over bean sprouts. I liked... it the kids passed. Liz thought the very large spring rolls were the best and I did too. As a matter of fact upon ordering any Asian food, it is my practice to nail some portion of the appetizers on the way home. I have been known to leave a trail or ribs or wings from Westford to Concord past Nashaoba Hill. Yep that's me making your dogs yak the next day. So we added to that their pad Thai made with shrimp and it had a side of peanut sauce that added more spice....very good and a lot of it. The chicken with brocoli was a lighter meal or sauce that accompanied lots of chicken and broccoli and made Mollly very happy. The crispy shrimp were intersting but more crispy than shrimp. Far too much white rice was offered and it went in the trash. So now the experience. Oh yea nailed that spring roll on the way home and left a trail of crumbs (flakes) on my fleece that gave the tell tail warning sign to my wife as I walked through the door......."ya couldn't wait?" The inside of this very small downtown Maynard spot is very Thai decorated with the most typical of Thai fashions, memorabilia and awards. But ahhhhhhhhhh the ambience to stand there very close to the diners as you wait for your meal. Should have stayed in the car. Just being picky but you can see that these owners are all about quality and generally not about where you stand for "to go." "Sit anywhere." That was a demand and I did. I've been to Thai Chili twice, and I can honestly say that I've never experienced a greater gulf in quality between a restaurant's pad kee mao (excellent) and pad thai (very difficult to eat). Oh, Thai Chili, why do you do this to me? Well, let's start with the review: Ginger chicken-noodle soup - This soup comes with every order, and consists of ramen and strips of chicken breast in a ginger soup base. And they do not skimp on the ginger. Palate cleansers do not get much better than this, and I was amazed that an Americanized place would add this much ginger to a soup most Thai restaurants serve quite bland. I can't say enough great things about this soup. Pad kee mao (not on the written menu) - The drunken noodles here were fresh and well-seasoned, with great use of basil and bell peppers. An all around great dish, and one of the better interpretations of pad kee mao that I've eaten. Spicy pad thai - Really sticky and overpoweringly sour with way too much lime juice, the spicy pad thai was very difficult to eat. It looked and tasted like the chef added an extra portion of sauce to the regular pad thai. I finally gave up on the dish 2/3 of the way through my small portion. I'll admit upfront that I am not the biggest fan of Thai food, but as I am repeatedly told - in a relationship one has to make compromises. Of course, I am usually told this when she is in the mood for Thai food and I needless to say, am not. However, Thai Chili certainly makes the food palatable for someone that is not a huge fan of the cuisine. The food is actually quite tasty. They have a very extensive menu including all the classic fare you'd expect. The restaurant is small but generally has enough tables to accommodate everyone without a wait. They have take-out. Price is good. There isn't a ton of ambience as the restaurant appears to have been decorated a long time ago without update. But that won't take away from your enjoyment - unless wallpaper really bums you out. The only negative is parking. There is no private lot which means at times finding parking can be a challenge. On a one-way street no less means looping around can be tiresome. Overall though, I would highly recommend Thai Chili. As one of the few Thai places in the greater Metrowest area you won't be disappointed. read more

I recently moved from Cambridge, and was skeptical that any Maynard Thai place would earn my approval. Our first night in Maynard dispelled that idea! This food is actually better than the vast majority of city Thai. Sad to say I don't recall what I had, but we ordered takeout again recently, I had the Seafood Pad Thai, and I didn't care for it. Still, it gets four stars because my wife's Pineapple Shrimp was amazing, and I have the feeling that I would still love 90% of the menu items. I'll return, and one more amazing meal will bump this place up to the five stars it probably deserves - apart from the Seafood Pad Thai, which was mushy and whose flavors just didn't seem to meld together. read more

We've tried a few places near us on occasion because my wife loves Thai food. Yesterday was her birthday and we hadn't tried Thai Chilli yet, so I ordered her a special birthday lunch. Tomkah soup is a regular menu item, but they hadn't prepared it yet for that day's lunch. I love this place! I go here with my mom all the time. We always get the Mango or Green Curry, fried rice, and pad thai. The price isn't the range for me and my friends (just-out-of-college grads), except on special occasions, but its worth it! They also give you free unlimited white rice. I think its run just by a husband and wife who take turns being in the kitchen or being waitstaff. Both are very personable and friendly. I think they also have a son who waits as well. Yah, it's like a three person staff. It's a small place that's quiet with a pleasant atmosphere. I haven't been to a lot of Thai restaurants, but I have been to many Indian restaurants, and I love curry. The difference between Indian curry and Thai Chilli's is that is much thinner and lighter. And acts almost more like an absorbing sauce on your rice, as opposed to just sitting on top (which isn't a bad thing at all, they're just different styles). You might not like Tofu, but wait! You must try theirs first! Most of the time, tofu is very mooshy and just looks like a weird block of spongy cheese. Theirs is firm and I wouldn't be surprised to see grill marks on the side. It's actually very good. And I don't usually like tofu. There is also rarely a wait. It's definitely a gem! read more

I stopped here on my way home from work to pick-up two orders of pad thai on a rainy night that I didn't feel like cooking. The reviews seemed decent and I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the door and saw it almost full (on a Friday at 6:30pm). The host greeted me right away and they were quick to give me my order (which was ready, though I was 10 minutes early). I did ask for hot sauce, which she told me she normally charges for but gave to me for free. (Charges for hot sauce? Really?!) It only took me 5 minutes to get home, so I wasn't eating the take out much later. Even still, it was dry. Very dry. The portions were great, a lot of chicken, some decent shrimp, but boy was it dry. Not a lot of great flavor overall, so not the best pad thai I've had. Decent, but wouldn't order it again. The Siam a few doors down was better. I would be interested in dining in sometime - it just seemed so cozy and both people I met there seemed sweet. read more

My friend had just moved to Maynard and we saw this place as we strolled Main Street. Calling it "fine dining" is a major stretch for us city folk who pay $40 an entree and have to dress up...my sweats matched the jeans and tees of the other diners and the $15 entree says this may be delicious, but it isn't a "fine dining" opportunity. Perhaps their definition means cloth napkins and wait service? The food was serviceable Thai and unexpectedly good given the area. We got the Shrimp Red Curry (average to good) and the Spicy Pad Thai. It was all fresh, hot and tasty, but not as boldly flavorful as we would have enjoyed. I also had a few gristly bits in my chicken. So overall, it was just alright. Not spectacular. Maybe we were there on an off night (but it was a Saturday!) or maybe we are picky foodies. Anyone who thinks this is the best Thai they have had either (a) went there on a different night and had a totally different experience than us; or (b) has limited experience with Thai food; or (c) just prefers things less flavorful than we do. The bright spots from my friend's perspectives were that they heeded her allergy to mushrooms and warned her off the dumplings as a result and that she said extra spicy and they actually made her food extra spicy. Her veggies in the curry looked exceptionally fresh. Slow service put a damper on things. We had to assert ourselves to get a drink order and were never asked if we wanted another. Is there a one-beer limit in Maynard? Water glasses went empty at least three times. At the end of our meal; despite a half-full dining room, it took the server over 15 minutes to notice we had finished. I realize it's a small mom & pop, but when you only have about 12 tables, come on...keep up the attentiveness. For those who think volume matters, we did leave with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Very generous portions. Will surely go again even if only for convenience. This is a small, family owned restaurant in quiet, downtown Maynard. The food was good - and actually spicy which can be hard to find. The service is great and this place is filled with locals that the owners recognize and appreciate. We had the Red Curry and Prikkang (spicy green bean dish). They were both spicy. I think the menu exaggerated the spiciness with its 2 star "Hotter and Spicier" rating - but that's OK. We could have cleaned our plates but wanted to save some for leftovers. The owners were thoughtful enough to send us home with some extra rice and red curry sauce since we live so far away (Salem). My favorite part? With the check they give you candy (mini candy bars, dum dums, etc)- it was a wonderful surprise and more exciting than typical mints. read more

I just sat in this restaurant with 3 friends for 15 minutes without being served. We were seated with menus promptly. At the time there was one other table of three people who had almost finished their meal. After 10 minutes another single patron walked in, sat down two tables away, and they were taking his order within 5 minutes. The staff was moving around and visible on the floor. We tried to get someone's attention (without actually getting up, because why should we? ), but to no avail. At that point we wondered whether the fact that our party included two people of color (the only two in the restaurant) might be motivating our treatment. Nothing specific happened to make us certain that this was the case. But we got up to leave and walked out without anyone asking why, or saying a word as we left. They clearly didn't care for our business and left us with only one plausible explanation. If it were anything else, (short staffed, too busy, emergency in the kitchen, whatever) they would have asked why we were leaving, and perhaps tried to convince us to stay.
