All of the food was old and stale. The green curry sauce was like water, there was no taste at all to the drunken noodles, and the edamame was aged to the point where it was turning yellow. We got a literal half-thimble-full of sauce for the spring rolls. The steamed rice didn't even fill the container and was old and crusty. I'll stop there, but we will never be back. Pretty much inedible. the "scallion pancakes" are raw dumplings. the mango paradise was covered in unlisted mushrooms, which neither of us eats. the curry sauce was so watery and without depth. the boiled chicken pieces in both dishes was chewy and tasteless. one and done, so disappointing. read more

I arrived at 12:30 on a Wednesday and was welcomed by a very friendly girl who served me my Wonton soup and a super yummy plate of PadThai. I loved it! Food was made fresh and quick. I really like eating pad thai. I did not like the pad thai from Chili Basil which had a vinegar flavor and a thick whitish sauce which I have never seen in any pad thai before. They must have developed their own recipe. I'm not a fan. The dish I ordered featured chicken and shrimp which was nice since many places offer chicken and shrimp for an up charge. That said, CB's pad thai is more expensive than other places by about $3 I've been to recently. read more

I knew when I opened the rice that this meal would be bad: the rice was grey, not fresh white like it should be. I had ordered yellow curry with tofu. The tofu had clearly been sitting for a long time because it was rubbery with hard edges. This was on a Saturday night when volume should mean that everything is very fresh. The sauce, typically the highlight of a yellow curry for me, was bland even though it looked right from a color perspective. Only giving a second star based on my memories of having some great meals here in the past. Last nights take out has to be the worst Thai food I've ever had. Got crispy chicken Pad Thai. The chicken had been cooked hours ago and reheated which made it dry. Not to mention that it was crappy quality chicken to begin with. And the marinade was sicky sweet. No vegetables in the noodles. Unless you count scallions as a veggie. The sauce was very sweet and very sour. No notes of salty or bitter. He got Drunken Noodles Beef. Very little sauce on the dish. Yet super oily. Lacking in flavor as well - barely any heat. The take out bag only had our 2 containers of food. No silverware. No napkins. No condiments. With tax the tab was $30. Expensive crap. read more

It was an off non busy hour when I went so service was nice and fast. I gotten thai iced tea for a drink, and probably the best one I've had recently. For the meal I ordered Tom Yum noodles with seafood. The amount of seafood was plenty (shrimps, scallops and calamari ) but I wish there were a bit more noodles. The Tom yum soup was superb. This place was great. The decor is a nice blend of dark wood and colorful wall decorations. Great quiet place to bring a date. We ordered the sampler and pork satay appetizers and I liked everything that came to the table. The taste was a good reminder of what I like in a Thai restaurant but differentiated itself enough to bring me back. For the meal I asked for 3 star chicken yellow curry but it came out as a 1 star, not very spicy. However that was easily remedied with the on table chili to spice things up to my liking. Perfection every time. Here's what I got at Chili Basil Thai - 3 things for take out. Pad Thai which is the most basic of Thai dishes was watery, mushy and not fresh. Actually had to spit it out. Tasted like bad leftovers reheated. The Tom yum soup also a basic Thai offering was not hot in temperature at all (I live around the corner so commute was 1-2 minutes) and disgusting tasting like overly spicy dishwater and last was the papaya salad which I had never ordered but thought I'd try-what a mistake. A small chunk of old iceberg lettuce on one side of the container the other side had a small pile of shredded - I don't know what - with a couple of old green beans. The most pathetic looking salad I have ever seen. Tasted like they pulled some things out of a pickle jar. It was horrendous. There was nothing that even resembled a papaya. We will not be back here. Ordered takeout. When I went to pick it up at appropriate time, nobody greeted me at the counter for about 5 min. Then they told me they were still working on it. Seemed understaffed and overwhelmed. When got home, noticed that we got the wrong curry dish. And the side of rice that we ordered had that brown gunk that you sometimes see at the bottom of your rice cooker. I've gone to Chili Basil for years and it's been my family's go to Thai takeout spot in the area. I have frequented them so often that the staff knows my order before I even walk through the door. I would highly recommend this place for takeout or dine in if you are in the mood for delicious Thai food. I have tried a variety of the dishes on the menu and the flavor and quality of ingredients never fails to satisfy me. They cook like they actually care, which you can't always count on in the suburbs. Food is authentically seasoned with attention to detail. Vegetables are always fresh with just the right amount of crunch. I considered whether to give my review one star or two based to my experience. It doesn't matter how good the food is when something like this happens. I had lunch at Chili Basil today. I've never dined here before and I wanted to try their Pad Thai as it's received four and five star reviews by other Yelpers. I will agree that it was very good. The sauce was flavorful and the amount of chicken and shrimp that accompanied the dish was decent. The waitress was attentive and didn't hover. If I based my review on just these aspects, I would give them four stars. Unfortunately, this is where the positive part of my review ends. Prior to leaving the restaurant, I used the ladies room. There was a dead adult cockroach on the floor. I've managed a restaurant in the past and I know what a cockroach looks like. I picked it up with a tissue and brought it to the attention of the cook, who was a young Thai woman. I told her that I wasn't looking for a free meal and that I'll never go back there again. She just looked at me and nodded and I then left the restaurant. It's a shame that this occurred because I would have liked to have tried other menu items but I won't return to a restaurant that has a pest issue this is out in the open like this. read more

Summary: Don't go here if you know what Thai food should taste like. Food was either very sweet or very spicy, and lukewarm or spots of hot and cold. Service was ok. This was not an enjoyable experience. I would rather go hungry than eat there again. To start we ordered Tom Yum and Tom Kha Gai soups. The Tom Yum was tepid and sweet with barely a hint of spiciness. The Tom Kha Gai was so sweet that it was more of a dessert soup than anything. One person got a Shirley Temple, which they said tasted like Sprite with red color, and had no grenadine flavor. For mains: Pad Thai - again with the cloying sweetness, and minimal flavor. It was like rice noodles with sugar sauce and peanuts. Larb-Kai salad - this actually had some heat to it! About a 4/5 on spiciness, decent flavor. Not sure how well it was cooked, seemed right on the edge of undercooked. Tofu noodle dish - temperature was hot in some spots and cold in others, like it was microwaved and not stirred. Cashew nut stir fry - another way too sweet meal. We didn't bother with dessert. read more
