We had previously ordered take-out a few times which was pretty good but we were extremely happy with dinner at the restaurant tonight. We sat outside with an excellent view. We wanted to try Thai Elephant 2 cor some time and finally did. It was a Saturday evenng and we really enjoyed the view on the patio. My wife had the mango salad which was very good. I startrd with the spring rolls which looked much better than it tasted. The filling was mushy and void of flavor. Our entres were disappointing. I had the basil chicken which looked far better than it tasted. The chicken was overcooked and the sauce was almost absent. My wife had a peanut chicken with more sauce, which was good, but the rock hard chicken ruined the meal Finally, after letting the waiter know five minutes earlier, we were finished, we had to ask another server to get our check. Was literally shriveled and dried up sand and tasted worse, our " chicken lo mein" was rat on a stick , our curry chicken ? Was soup with Julian vegetables, my Tom yum soup? No spice tasted like dirty dish water, shrimp dumpling? Burnt to a crisp , regular veggie dumplings? Steamed till the point that they fell apart. Duck tamarind? Dry and gross , This food was god awful and they should be shut down by the health department. And when I called to complain they were FLABBERGASTED that someone dared to complain. This is the best (and only) Thai restaurant in Patterson! Formerly L'auberge Bretonne, Jagerhaus and most recently Steakhouse 22, a very handsome restaurant with a stone fireplace, bar, deck and garden seating in season. Hoping there will be enough traffic on Rt 22 to stay open for a good long run. During my visits there were a number of first time diners who frequented one of the previous restaurants this building housed. All appeared happy with the latest identity. Very friendly service and a nice setting is a great start, on to the food. Didn't go out on a limb, stuck to Pad Thai or Pad Kee Mao with Tom Kha Gai. Great! The Lunch menu is full of delicious Thai options including Thai Chestnut, Ginger, Galic or Mixed Veggies over Chicken, Beef, Shrimp or Tofu, Noodles, Curries. We ordered the Pad Thai; full of sweet rice noodles, with peanuts, bean sprouts and yummy deliciousness, Pad Kee Mao was spicy yet flavorful full of good Thai spices in thick flat noodles did i mention it comes with Soup; Coconut milk soup (Tom Yum Gai), full or rich flavors which it the spot on a cold day. Grabbed dinner here after leaving Thunder Ridge ski area. I was actually surprised to see any ethnic restaurant, outside of Chinese, this far North in a remote area. The soft shell crabs I ordered was nicely breaded. The seafood salad I had tasted fresh with nice size calamari. We also enjoyed the pad thai, which should be a staple at any Thai restaurant. We were in the area, and searching for lunch we spotted this place. Decent reviews. When we arrived there weren't many folks there (not usually a good sign!). We sat on the patio. Great weather, and a nice view of the wood surrounding the place. The menu was pretty typical Thai. We ordered various things, I honestly don't remember most of them. I did the panang curry. It was fine. I ordered medium hot, which it wasn't. Very mild They did have a different soup (not just tom-yum), and it was nice for a change. Don't know that I'd order it deliberately, though. The other dishes were nothing special. I can't say they were bad, but not memorable either. I'd probably really go 2.5 stars on this one, but they don't deserve two stars, so I have to go with three here on Yelp. read more

Legit Thai restaurant with a nice ambiance and good service. The $9 lunch special is a steal,can't be beat! It comes with a salad, spring roll, and your choice of soup and main dish. I particularly enjoyed their pad see ew, it was better than their pad thai. The terrace area has a nice view of the nature, it's an ideal place to enjoy a lazy afternoon lunch. The waiter was very attentive, he made sure our glasses were always filled with water. This is a true gem, it's hard to find a place that score high on food, ambiance, service and affordability. Friday night, so everything should have been fresh. Summer Roll vegetables were old, gray carrots & dried out. No hint of fresh herbs. Served with a thick Teriyaki sauce dip listed on the menu as Tamarind dip. Cucumber salad served with Satay was a suspicious yellow syrup in which was floating absolutely rotten cucumber pieces that disintegrated to mush in the mouth and had to be spit out! Shrimp Pad Thai came swimming in the same Teriyaki brown sauce with limp (canned?) bean sprouts, burnt ground peanut garnish & 5 small shrimp hidden in a handful of broken rice noodles. No egg or scallions. The plate looked like picked-over leftovers! Not a hint of the bright, crisp, fresh flavors & textures Thai food is known for. As if all this weren't bad enough, our complaints fell on deaf ears of chef owner who was entirely defensive and argumentative. Excellent, authentic quisine! I tried dishes that you don't really find at other restaurants. The porkchops were different, but in a good way. The curry puffs are big and divine, I devoured them swiftly. Great variety from fried rice meals to curries and more. Very thorough menu that will both fill and sattisfy a big appetite, (I would know). The place has a warm feel to it. Nothing major fancy but it will do for a nice intimate dinner. I think this place will fit in nicely. The area is in need of new restaurants that make good food, there's only so much fu@#ing Italian one can eat? Am I right locals? Third update. back to 4 stars. their hot pot with seafood is awesome. and spicy tom kha gai soup is still perfect. ------------- second update last visit - minus one more star. ke maw *drunken noodles were not good at all. Huge amount of garlic and weird taste. Dissapointed. Crispy duck was good (taste and texture) but just too salty. The only thing that still excellent is their spicy tom kha gai soup. ----------------------- Little too far for us, but we have visited the place 4 or 5 times over last couple of months already. Panang, ginger tofu, eggplant basil tofu and Tom Ka Gai soup were very good, and we will be back. We didn't like the red curry - so far the only dish we weren't impressed with at this place. On a good side want to mention tom-ka-gai soup - they are serving it with hot oil (good spicy level) - in most other places its usually non spicy at all and not as good. Also we always ask to replace chicken in there with tofu and it comes with a lot of mushrooms as well. Soup for 2 portion serves as a great appetizer and it is just good. Sad to see Steakhouse 22 gone, but Jim and his family deserved a little break. Now, a taste of Thailand right in little Patterson! My wife and I had lunch there today for their Grand Opening. There were some opening jitters, and service was a little slow; however, the staff was very polite and the food full of flavor. Also a great value, especially for lunch. I had Panang Curry and my wife the Chili Basil lunch specials. Definitely compares to other places in Carmel and Danbury that we frequent, and so happy to have another ethnic choice close to home! read more

Ok, so we visited this place for the third and last time last night. As others have stated, we really wanted Thai Elephant 2 to be a big success. Nothing has changed. The place is still dirty, service still lacking, wait time for anything outrageous, food atrocious. People should not settle for bad Thai food - no Thai food would be better. I am a little confused by those who post very positive things about this place. It has to be the owners and their friends. It is truly one of the worst restaurants i have been to, and strongly urge others to think twice before going there. We have been eating here regularly for several years. Since Covid-19 we pick up take-out several times a month. Let me preface by saying my wife and I have traveled through Thailand and SE Asia many times. When we travel to USA large cities, we invariably look for the best rated local Thai restaurant. Thai Elephant 2 is top notch and family owned. The best dishes are those prepared fresh. They have the best Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles) and I routinely cycle through all of the proteins - pork, chicken, and shrimp. I love pork based dishes and they consistently use the best quality, thinly sliced pork loin - always tender and tasty. Next try their Crispy Basil Chicken - my wife's favorite. This is deep fried but somehow never oily (my wife hates oily foods). This is a surprisingly dry dish with basil and shredded green peppers and carrots but highly seasoned. Their traditional Chili Basil dishes (your pick of protein) are rich in sauce and also completely authentic. If you like real Thai tell them them to not hold back on the spices. Next we love their green or red curries - among the best. When we were in Bangkok last year we had Green Curry pizza - well we reproduced it at home by ordering a thin crust white pie from a local pizzeria and topped it with Thai Elephant's Green Curry Chicken - WOW just like Bangkok ! There are lots of other entree's all equally excellent. Volcano Shrimp, Pad See Ew, etc. Appetizers - like any small restaurant you need to be selective and just ask if freshly made. They have the best Beef Salad (which you can also add shrimp) plus they always have wonderful fresh Thai salads with fantastic peanut sauce. We like their Curry Puffs (potato based) and they have a Beef Jerky that is really tasty and my granddaughters find addictive. We have eaten at soooo many Thai restaurants in NYC and none come close to the consistently great and AUTHENTIC Thai food here at Thai Elephant 2. read more

Take this 3 stars as more like a 2.5. I really want to love this place because it's so convenient and cute, but the food is honestly just average. It's edible; and if you're starving and don't want to/have time to cook, it'll taste good. But it is usually dry and kinda bland. Also what is kinda gross is I can only ever order takeout because when you walk in the building, it smells of mold and mildew incredibly badly. I'm unable to eat in the restaurant because it makes me sick. The food has never made me sick though. The service is also really bad. Nobody is rude, they just don't come to your table. Like ever. Thai Elephant 2 is the best Thai restaurant in Putnam and Westchester counties. All of their dishes are delicious, reasonably priced, and the portions are huge. Good Thai food, far from the best I've ever had, but after Thai Golden in Carmel switched owners about a year and a half ago, their food just hasn't been the same and Thai Elephant II has become my go-to Thai place in the area. The food is definitely tasty, flavorful, good selections. The location of the restaurant is also beautiful. Go for the sunset! Really what knocks down a few stars for me is the service. Just totally unorganized and you end up consistently waiting for the check for 10+ minutes after you're done with the meal. They need more / experienced servers, period. Some of my favorites are the Tom Yum soup and mango cashew salad. I've also tried the pad thai which is yummy, a bit more saucy than usual, and the crying tiger special is really great too with some rice on the side. read more

As much as a small town like Patterson was in need for a diverse restaurant in the community, I thought the food quality, service, presentation everything down to the decor was horrible. I further note that this is a Chinese run Thai Restaurant. Possibly their first location venued in Astoria, Queens may be run authentically. However, did this NYC venue believe that Hudson Valley community, would care realize the fine details? The Thai curry sauce lacked spice and curry, all you could taste was the coconut milk. The Pad Thai was thrown together as it was Chinese food dish you would obtain for take out, it also had a horrible burnt, after taste. Appetizers were not appealing or unique and the curry puffs dough was raw. Presentation of the food was horrible and portions were limited. Needless to say seeing poorly set place setting at the beginning should have been a red flag! This place gives the quality and presentation of Thai food a horrible name! read more
