Normally I enjoy the food at Thai Garden but tonight I called and ordered a garlic noodle shrimp. I guess I did not have the name of the dish right but I described it to the person on the other end of the phone. When I got home I had been given a different shrimp dish with rice. I clearly asked for noodles. I called the restaurant and asked if they could fix the problem. The person said she checked with the owner and said she was new so she did not get it right but they could not fix the problem. That is pretty crummy customer service. The dish I received was not good. It was a few shrimp with some limp lettuce and a box of rice. If it wasn't for the cream cheese won-tons I ordered, there would have been no dinner. So if you order from them, check before you pay. I am not sure I will eat there again. read more

Had a late lunch there today, as I was in the mood for some Thai. I'd tried this place before and was rather disappointed, but I'm flexible and will give any place a real chance. I ordered a large soup called "Tom Yum" to start off. They soup came at the same time as the rest of the food, which had me wondering about it being a "starter". We were the only two in the place, so I was trying to give them a square shot. This soup tasted as if I was biting into a ladle filled with sidewalk salt! it was inexplicable. I am a salt eater and even this had me gagging. I asked the server is this was normal for this type of soup, as I'd never had it before. She went into the kitchen and came back out with this older woman who was obviously Thay, Vietnamese, I'm not sure, forgive my ignorance. She shouted some things at me that I didn't understand and I tried to explain my issue and merely asked if this was a normal flavor for this soup. She simply grabbed the soup, spilling some one me (it was piping HOT!) and walked back to the kitchen. Minutes later, she emerged with more and shouted that I needed to try this batch. It was actually worse. She began shouting at me in her native language. I told her that I'd just pass on the soup for today and she shouted (this part I actually understood!) "I charge you anyway!". She then stomped back to the kitchen screaming for the entirety of our stay there, which was about 30 more minutes. Before we left, she came out again, pointed to my belly and shouted "You have bad kidneys! Everyone else likes this soup! You're a sick man! Fix your kidneys!" She stomped back into the kitchen and continued yelling at someone, herself, her staff, i'm not sure. I asked the server what she might be yelling about and she told me, smilingly, it was something about 'spoiled Americans, diseases, we expect everything free, etc'. I explained that I fully intended to pay my bill and that I was only inquiring about the unusual saltiness of this soup. At hearing what sounded like pots and pans being thrown about along with the incessant yelling, I gave the young lady my money and left. Again, there was NOBODY else there, so it's hard for me to make any excuses for this place. I assure you that there is no hankering strong enough to EVER drag me back into this place. After reading all the reviews on yelp I decided to order some take out today. I ordered tom yum soup, hot Thai beef, deep fried tofu and crispy honey chicken. The tom yum soup was great! No complaints there. All of the dishes come in huge portions so that was a plus. The beef had good flavor, but was very dry. Instead of crispy honey chicken, they gave us the grilled chicken with sweet and sour sauce. Very disappointing that they messed up our order on our first visit there, but we decided to try it anyway. It was SO DRY and had no flavor what so ever. The sauce that came with the tofu was pretty good, but it wasn't anything that made the tofu shine. There's a lot of Thai places around the area, I might try the other places next time. Wheb i got home i also noticed that on the receipt I was charged a "pre-tip amount of 5.94" on top of that our order was came out to about $32. I've never been charged a "pretip" on take out... We went here for lunch one day after seeing all the positive reviews on Yelp. There was still one hour left for their lunch special, yet, there was no food left. We asked if they would be bringing more food out and they said "No. That's why we ask people to arrive early." I cannot even begin to express how much I enjoy the Thai Garden. I give their establishment my highest recommendation. The restaurant has its quirks and is by no means perfect, but the combination of incredible Thai cuisine and very affordable pricing make the Thai Garden my favorite restaurant. Thai Garden is a family run restaurant and everyone that works there is not only very nice but also kind of heart and good in character. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is that they do not try and rush you out the door by bringing your check as soon as you put down your fork; they politely wait for you to ask for your check before assisting your departure. Came here to celebrate my moms birthday and won't complain as far as taste goes because the food is always tasty that is one of the reasons this got any stars, that and the male owner who usually takes our order is very kind and easy going. We acknowledged how late it was, but had never felt more rushed on a dine out than we did that night. The female cook in the back kept peeking out, hovering over our table and pointing at our food questioning if we where done so she could take our plates away and hand us our to go boxes. Nearing the end of our dinner we got our check and realized she had charged us for the extra side of broccoli that we had requested due to our 1st entree (pad see ew noodle) hardly having ANY broccoli, I am a fan of this dish I know it tends to have more! Thus me requesting a courtesy side portion, I am not trying to get a freebie here guys I knew what I was asking for wasn't unreasonable, had I known she would of charged me an extra 5 dollars for it? C'mon! And might I add it wasn't even sautéed as it should of been, it literally was almost raw. After expressing my disapproval to the female cook she went on about how she makes the food herself and COUNTS how many broccoli's she adds to the dish are you kidding me??!!?! She literally argued with me for several minutes about this I just had to end it there so much rambling that and the language barrier she made me repeat myself countless times because she couldn't get it! I said forget it take my money..... Once she returned she handed me my receipt to sign seeing as my dining experience was horrid because of this said woman I did not feel she deserved a tip, of course I reconsidered because that's not who I am but keep in mind my bill was more than I had expected so I couldn't leave as large of tip as the employees wished, something is better than nothing i my book. She took a look at it and said is that it? She DEMANDED a larger tip I can't express to you how awkward the whole thing was! I've been here twice so far. Once for take out just to test the water so to speak and then came back with hubby for the lunch buffet. SO Yummy!!! The buffet isn't huge but what was there was good. There is even fun sauce/spice caddies on each table to add a personal touch :-) Hubby and I each had a thai tea that was fantastic. The real star of this place though is the service. When I entered the restaurant I noticed most of the main dishes were extremely low and needed to be replenished . I asked one of the servers if she would be refilling them she said they would be , after getting the very few bits of red curry chicken there was they never refilled the dishes and still charged me full price for three meals !! Parents Please!!!!!!!!!!!!Read .......had been a loyal customer for years UNTil this place got new floor in wooden floor remodeled ......went in today and this lady that works the kitchen approached me my baby and niece like she was going to slap us, we went for a boba tea to go we got our drinks and my little niece 4 year old accidentally dropped the drink on the floor right after the owner came running almost sobbing and got on his knees and started cleaning the floor he did not stop complaining saying "this is soo bad this gonna ruin my floor"I went to the register to buy my niece another boba this time an Asian lady took the order gave me drink and joined the owner by the door were my niece was standing . I couldn't get over the fact of what a big commotion they made over a child's accident I caught both of them giving my niece dirty looks so I told them you guys shouldn't be so angry over a floor that's what hard wood floor is for it cleans easier. After I said this the lady turned crazy and started slapping her hands in our faces she kept shooing us out like we were flies screaming at my niece get out go away!!!! Favorite Thai place! Their pad Thai is amazing, better than all the other places I've tried. I almost always order Pad See Ew at other Thai places, but their Pad Thai is a must try. Usually other Thai places make this dish too sweet or tangy, but not this one. They make it just right. Recently I've been wanting just enough spiciness without overpowering the real taste of the dish, so I usually order 3 or 4 on the spiciness scale. Portions are great, and the prices are the best out of all Thai places in the area. Service is good, the guy who runs the place is nice and seems to remember all the regulars that come back to order. Eager and polite to converse with his customers. One thing I will say though is that food orders are slower than other Thai places. They do have a sign saying that they have a small kitchen and that the food will be worth the wait, which it definitely is worth the wait. If you want your food fast, order the food by phone before you leave to pick your order up. Otherwise, I'd say this restaurant is the kind where you should sit down while conversing with your family, and appreciate the food. This place is doing Thai food right. read more

I've only tried this place about four times now, but it has been consistently good every time minus my boyfriend's entree (some kind of ribs) the very first time we went. I had guilty feelings about this, because my noodles (forget the name) were delicious and I sat and enjoyed them while he picked at his plate disappointed. I even let him have the rest of my food since the portion is so generous and he liked it. He joked that he would never order the brontasaurus ribs again, being that they were large and quite disgusting. Ever since then, we have gone back a few times, tried the eggrolls, tom kha soup, and of course the noodle dish i had previously gotten and it's been good every time. The mango slushes are also very good, and I love boba! This place is definitely my favorite Thai food restaurant in North County! The food is DELICIOUS and big enough portions to where I was able to take the rest home and have it for lunch the next day. It's pretty reasonably priced and they give you the option to add boba to your drinks. The staff was also very friendly and we were seated right away. The only reason why I'm knocking a star off is because the waiter took forever to come back to check up on my husband and I. We wanted to get a box for our food and order dessert, which we eventually did. The sweet sticky rice with mango is SO good! My boyfriend loves their Tom ka and has been getting it for years. Went there tonight for takeout loved it. While it took longer than they estimated it was worth it. I've tried probably 75% of their menu & have never been disappointed once. My top favorites are probably their curries, Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles), Tom Yum soup, & the spicy eggplant plate. I like to try new Thai places whenever I'm visiting a new place, so I've tried a bunch from LA to SD, & I always compare them to Thai Garden. Nothing has ever beat them. The owner is awesome & knows us by voice when we order over the phone, he's super friendly & talkative. I'll be coming to Thai Garden for as long as I'm living in Oceanside. The one thing that's sort of a bummer is bc of their insanely great food & low prices, they've grown a ton in popularity, so it's tough to order takeout on weekends here around dinnertime. We usually try to avoid it on Fri./Sat. nights, the wait for to-go order can be 1.5-2 hours. Food was good and portions were big as well. Our wait time for our meal did not take longer than any other restaurant I've been to. This place is a hidden gem. Its store front is fairly unassuming, making it blend into its bland strip-mall surroundings but oh my god is the food good. Its a small Thai family run place (the owner is a very humble, nice guy, always smiling)... I'll cut to the chase, I'm all about the Tom Kha in this place. It is out of this world... if you like creamy coconut with hot spicy and that bitter tangy tomato to balance it out, not to mention large succulent shrimp, give it a try. This one soup dish is what made me come back to this place again and again. The curry (I had the Massaman and the Red Thai Coconut Curry) are as good as I have ever had. I have not been here for a couple of months so I stopped in today, sat in a booth and after 10 minutes of waiting for someone to bring water or at least acknowledge me I left, I was out of time for my lunch break. Service is usually better and with a happy smile. We no longer stop in for lunch as often, used to go once a week, now maybe once every 2 months or more. This is due to our many experience of the buffet being void of food or having little food. Then sometimes they open late for lunch and we do not have the time to wait. If you plan on visiting for lunch either make plans on extra time or wait until after 11:30 am. That being said when their is food is good and we enjoy it when things go right. Also the when there is food at the buffet it is priced reasonable. That being said I may try again in 3 months. read more

This place was a lot better a few year back. I remember coming here just after high school which was 2003ish and it was still great. Family-owned and friendly staff. The food was great too. I came in recently and the place was completely different. The staff still seemed family-owned, but by a different family. They also seemed short-handed that night with the host and chef playing waiter at the same time. I ordered the Pad Thai, my girlfriend another dish, but I remember it being gray. My friends split a yellow chicken curry. My food was edible, but a bit on the salty side and the noodles had kind of a sticky texture to it. My girlfriend wasn't so lucky, we ended up sending the meal back because the texture of her noodles were kind of soggy and the taste just wasn't doing it. We had to wait for about 10 minutes for them to check on us, but the guy wasn't busy or anything, he was just sitting there watching tv. The tv by the way, was tuned to a show about poop. Because everyone wants to learn about poop while eating, right? So after it went to commercial he finally checked on us. Then he was going to charge us for the meal we sent back, after mentioning that it tasted really bad, he finally took it off. The restaurant was also seemed kind of cluttered with decorations. stopped in finally after 2 years thinking about it... we had the lunch buffet so we can try a variety of dishes w/o breaking the bank! our main concern, the paneang curry, eggplant, & drunken noodles. they all passed :) the fried rice was ok but a bit dried out but probably because it was in the warmer, might be better ordered separately. the fried chicken was also way too dry. but all we cared about was the 3 dishes & they were good so we might be back just for those. the I'm guessing tom yum was kinda gross, I couldn't even swallow the taste! Maybe it was something else! for $7 a person for their lunch buffet I think it's worth just the dishes we really like :) the server was hardly around since he was the only there for the entire restaurant but it was fine since we were busy filling our plates at the buffet and he was very very nice when we entered and when he was serving us. most of the patrons there seemed like regulars since they all knew him & he knew them... good sign. read more
