I am from the area and moved to Chicago about 4 years ago. I have not been able to find a place that even comes close to comparing to Thai Kitchen in downtown Farmington! Everytime I come home, it is known that my first night in town will consist of about 50 dollars worth of thai takeout from thai kitchen, and 50 bucks will get you a looooong way at this place! Pad Prik is beyond incredible, i often joke that it would be my "last meal" if ever that day shall come when I'm on death row and have a choice of last meal. I don't know what they do to that eggplant, but holy smokes is it delicious! I'm also a fan of the basil fried rice, drunken noodle with scallops, larb, and massaman curry with potatoes. it's sad for me that i haven't been able to find a place in Chicago, but happy that I can look forward to this place everytime I go home for a visit! When I think of this place, I think of one word: consistent. I know it's not the absolute best but it's never terrible. I can count on Thai Kitchen for mediocre to above-average americanized thai food. I frequent this place about once a week. It's one of the better Thai restaurants out of the few choices in Farmington and it's relatively cheap for big portions. I normally get pad thai, pad seew, tom kha, or basil fried rice. Sometimes the pad thai or pad seew has a lot of sauce, which I don't always prefer, but I don't like it dry either. The basil fried rice is delicious and has a ton of vegetables stir-fried in it. It's not to salty and has a good amount of heat, even for mild. So if I am in a pinch and I want some decent Thai food, I have no qualms with going to Thai Kitchen to fulfill my craving. read more

This was my first visit here, I came on other Yelp recommendations, I got the Vegetable pad Thai medium spicy, I don't think I was ready for the Medium yet, I should have got the mild, out side of that, it was good, it's had that tangy sweet but hot flavor. The soup was good too, a huge bonus is the full picture of water they give with your meal, been to other Thai restaurant were this wasn't an option, anyone who eats spicy food can appreciate this, the service was really fast and staff was friendly. I haven't been to many Thai restaurants that I would classify as "bad", but Thai Kitchen fits that description pretty well. They were fairly busy over the lunch hour, between dine in customers and carry out, but they only had one waitress/cashier for the whole restaurant. Considering that, the service wasn't awful, but she had trouble being attentive with so much to do. The main reason I'm giving 2 stars is I found the food underwhelming. The hot and sour soup was tasty, with a good balance of spice and a nice consistency. For the main course, I ordered pad cashew, and I was not impressed. It lacked flavor and the spice level was too high despite ordering mild. I also had some tough pieces of chicken. The restaurant itself is under-finished. The walls are stark white, and the tables are finished simply with white cloths. No atmosphere here, no Thai decor to speak of... On the plus side, prices are pretty reasonable. You can stay well under $10 and the portions are quite large. I suppose if you live nearby and don't have other Thai options, Thai Kitchen would be fine. But with so many other good Thai restaurants around, such as Siam Spicy in Novi, I would drive a bit further to find really flavorful, good Thai food. read more

I'm a Pad Thai Junkie. That's right, and I don't plan on reverting, slowing down, or going into recovery any time soon. The sweet, hot, peanutty pow keeps me looking for more. A friend of mine who knows my love for food, brought by a piping hot basket of Chicken Pad Thai one day (sweet friend o mine!) And that was it. Anyhow, after trying out a dozen of shops in my area I found one right under my nose locally. Thai Kitchen in Farmington rocks! The noodles are just a bit chewy, the spice is fresh, and topped with limes and a handful of chopped peanuts. They add plenty of that hot/sweet sauce I like. And a tiny bit of scrambled egg. I also love their spring rolls, actually they have a whole list of apps that are full of meat or cheese or whatever the specialty should be and affordable. A tiny diner run by a family. I was surprised to see some below average reviews as I have been to this restaurant for years and food was pretty good. So I decided to come back here and had the Pad Thai. Surprisingly, the Pad Thai looks kind of different than what I used to have. The noodles is not dry, and instead it is watery. When I asked the waitress why the noodle looks like these , she told me they are not Thai, they are Mong people working at Thai restaurant . (What!? I've never had a bad meal here. I've eaten at many Thai food places, and this is by far the best! One problem with the food is that the amount of spice is not consistent, no matter how much you order. So, I order it mild with extra spice on the side and everything's good that way. And my only real complaint is the service. Usually, I just get my food to go, but on the chance that I do eat in, I always get the same girl who is not very attentive to the needs of the table. This place has gone downhill. All of a sudden the food is not fresh tasting at all. And their spice level is totally off. But what got my goat is that when they made my food super spicy after I ordered it as "no spice," is that they wanted me to bring in my food in order to show them that I had not eaten too much of it first. This place used to be great, but I believe at one point a couple years ago they got a new owner, changed the menu a bit, and the quality took a nose dive. Many dishes on the menu are still good, like the Pad Thai, rice and other popular items, but they don't seem as fresh and are heavy on the MSG. I asked a few times if I could order with no MSG, they said no. On the plus side they are quick, cheap and in a good location. So, if you aren't too picky, then this may satisfy you. read more

Finally.... a Thai restaurant that speaks to my cravings!!! The spring rolls are delicious. The crab cheese is just as good...BUT- the plum sauce needs a little work... I would rather buy my own sauce to dip the appetizers in. It's too thick and yellow. To the management, could you try using the red sweet and sour sauce? I think it'll match your fried appetizers better. My husband favors the Chef special noodle and my favorite is the Pad ped (eggplant with red curry). :) Lunch portions end at 3pm. I stopped in for lunch today. First time in. I was greeted with a smile. I decided to try the Pad Khing. I got it with chicken and medium plus spice. My staple for rating Thai restaurants. I must say that the food here is very good. The portions are large and the amount of spice is just right. The pricing is also in line with other spots. Having been to Thailand and eaten the local food I have to say that Thai Kitchen gets pretty close. The best Thai food I have ever had in Michigan (and I've had lots!). Medium spicy is just perfect, I always get curry chicken pad thai with extra sprouts, chicken fried rice with sprouts, and voonsen with beef and extra baby corn. YUM! read more

A million and half years ago, I went on a date to Thai Kitchen. The actual date was super lame, and sadly, so was the food. Suffice to say, I never had a repeat date with that guy, nor did I have a repeat date with Thai Kitchen. That was until last night, when I decided that this place needed another chance. Forgiveness is a virtue, right? Driving up, this plaza looks absolutely dead, I half expected the place to be closed as I was pulling up. All the businesses are closed except for this one and Bellacino's and the lights for the parking lot were turned off. Like the parking lot, the actual restaurant was empty as well, except for one table with a small family. The menu here is your typical Thai. I opted for the chicken satay, tom yum and the pad voosen to share. Due to my spice wary white, eastern-european belly, I opted for mild plus on everything. The tom yum, with chicken and these beautiful mushrooms, was actually spicy for me. However the liquid to contents ratio was way off and it had tomatoes in it...is it supposed to have tomatoes in it? If yea, ok that's cool, but I hate warm cooked tomatoes so those were promptly removed. The chicken satay was a puzzler. It came out fried! They were like skewered chicken tenders with sauce, accompanied with congealed peanut saucy paste and flavorless cucumber salad. Honestly, this satay, even though it went into my belly, should be an embarrassment to basic Thai cuisine. Luckily, the pad voosen was bordering decent. The noodles were pretty good, but I have a feeling that if they were cooked for a second longer, then they would have been over cooked. The dish does come with plenty of peapods, baby corn, sprouts and egg. Honestly, the food here was somewhat decent, not fantastic, but it did hit the spot for my Thai hankering. Based on food alone, I'm afraid I would have given this place 2 stars, but I'm going to be generous and allow the service to redeem another star. The service was quick and efficient. Our server was nice and attentive from the moment she brought us shrimp chips and a pitcher of water to when she brought the check. Apparently this isn't the place to hang out on a Friday night because me and my boyfriend and our friends were the only ones in the restaurant at 7 pm. The service is slow and the restaurant is pretty quite. We were given a basket of shrimp chips as a starter. We had the pad thai curry with beef with medium heat and the chicken pad prik in mild heat. My pad thai curry was very saucey which I appreciated but it was definitely spicy and I have a pretty good tolerance for that. The pad prik was also saucey which was satisfying. I believe our friends ordered drunken noodles and a curry in mild heat along with spring rolls. I used to work right down the street from this retaurant and I ate lunch here at least once a week if not more if I could afford it. The pad thai is delicious, and the soup and crackers they give you to start your meal with are very good too. This is a solid Thai restaurant in farmington. They even offer Thai tea and bubble tea as well. The pad Thai comes with tofu which is nice for vegetarians. I've been here a few times and I've never been disappointed with the food. I always get chicken and shrimp with my fried rice and they never cheap out like most places would with their meat. I get a lot of quantity of big shrimps in my order. Other places I get 4-5 small shrimps. Also the flavoring is always good! I usually get really spicy and its always made to my liking.
