Very clean and bright atmosphere. Carry out only, but it sounds like they have outdoor dining for when the weather is good. They have a self order iPad and also someone that takes your order at the desk. The menu seems allow a few different combinations of rice, bread or salad with their chicken. The orders come with a variety of pickled vegetables are all kind of interesting and tasty to go with the curry we ordered. This place is located in a shopping center, but it's a little bit difficult to spot. It's next to a couple other restaurants. It has convenient parking, but the parking spaces are very tight so be careful of other drivers. read more

When I was younger, my mother had a recipe book that covered all the different ways you can fry chicken. There was one page for every state in the Union: Carolinas, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas to name a few. In fact, there were some great ideas for the fried chicken I had never tried before, which is one of the staple dishes of the American South. The author went on to say, its origins lie in Scottish immigrants who arrived in what is today the United States centuries ago. While this book was seen as the holy grail on how to cook fried chicken back in the day, I always felt deep in my heart there something was missing. Ironically, it wasn't until my next door neighbors from Yokohama introduced me to two of those missing chapters, one of which is Yakitory, and the other is Karaage. The latter Karaage, is Japanese style fried chicken that is so delicious, you have to taste it first-hand to believe it for yourself. One would think that the best way to enjoy this delicious entrée would be to book an expensive flight to Tokyo. However, instead of spending a fortune on airfare, you can just drive to nearby Farmington Hills, and enjoy some very delicious karaage at Sozai Chicken. The vast majority of chicken used in Japanese cuisine, comes from the thighs, as its sweet and tender. At Sozai, you can buy multiple sizes of karaage, and katsu, which is white breast meat. They also offer Japanese BBQ sauce that you can add to the katsu, to really give it an over the top punch. One entrée they serve is "Curry Rice With Fried Chicken." If you love curry rice like I do, this is on my list for the next time I visit Farmington Hills. Although Sozai Chicken is really a fast food approach to Karaage, I have a feeling it's going to become very popular. The really cool thing is that you have the ability to customize your meal accordingly. Hopefully, they will expand to places like Ann Arbor in the future, where this type of food would be a big hit with the college crowd. In the meantime, enjoy this place to the fullest. read more

The proliferation of Asian fried chicken shops is a welcome sight. Sozai is Japanese fried chicken. Thankfully, Sozai opened with much less fanfare as, for example, Bonchon just down the street. I say thankfully because Bonchon's reputation was damaged by its failure to satisfy the crowds. I ordered the Karaage chicken thighs, Aurora spicy sauce (served on the side) with a side of the egg salad. The chicken is incredibly moist and crisp. The sauce was not really spicy, but had a nice flavor. The egg salad was fresh and good. My only complaint is that both were very under-seasoned. Yes, I know, some object to salt. Too bad. Put some salt and pepper on the karaage chicken (and the egg salad which screamed out for salt) and my score would have been 5 star. Personally I would like some Mala seasoning, but that would not be Japanese. Sozai is really good. Just bring some salt. read more

It's a small place, quaint, no room to dine in at all. Nice customer service.. VERY dedicated. I will pass on the wings next time or order them without sesame seeds. The breast was simply divine. My goodness. My favorite was the chicken curry bun. The homemade bun was remarkable. I wish they had more, I ordered the very last one. read more

First time here. Love having so many choices for the Bento Box. You can choose the side salad, the sauce & the protein.

This under the radar place is a true gem. Everything is prepared by the owner who is also a dietician. Ingredients are all very high quality and the place is incredibly clean. The Japanese curry bowls are spot on what A true Japanese curry should be. In my opinion, the wings are the best in all of metro Detroit. Try them with Bachan's Japanese BBQ sauce and thank me later. You'll have to provide your own Bachan's though. The only thing I would change about this place would be to expand their sauce offerings. While the few they have are all very good, their wings really shine with a sweeter sauce like Bachan's or Mr. Yoshida's. This place could really take off with some added marketing of their wings. read more

Very excited to live less than five minutes away from a curry place. Ordered online and service was fast they have a very simple menu here and nailed it . Reminds me of the curry house in California, just to go. I forgot to try some of the healthy sides, so will be back to check them outI can't wait to try some other items like the Bento box. This place sits back in a strip mall off of 12 mile but don't let that fool you. The food here is awesome! So fresh and tasty. When you walk in you place your order yourself on a touch pad and then they make it fresh right in front of you. Service was very fast and friendly. We ordered the curry rice with fried chicken, chicken katsu don, and an order of the chicken gyoza. Everything was so flavorful and good. The only thing I was bummed about is we didn't try more things. Definitely coming back though! read more

They have a special today chicken katsudon which I will be coming back to try. Some katsu sandwiches r also on the menu. Reminds me of my trips to Japan. Great food, worth a try. Delicious chicken! Curry rice bowl with 3 Katsu for my husband. He was full and the curry was so delicious! My daughter loved the chicken Katsu with the aurora sauce. I didn't see the Katsudon special on the sign on the side! Make sure to look around before ordering on the kiosk if you go inside. Nice and friendly staff and yummy food. Katsu curry is phenomenal. My grandparents and my mom lived in Japan for 20+ years and it's been so hard to find something comparable according to my mom. This place is fantastic.
