When you drive up, it's hard to tell what it is. There is one small black and white sign that has the name but faded. Otherwise you'd have no idea where the walkway is going. The inside has concrete floors and a long counter with a few Thai decorative. There are green blankets covering the back area but you can see supplies like paper cups, sodas, etc. not what I expected for the only Thai place in Tahoe City. I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken and neither the rice or the chicken had any seasoning or flavor. The rice seemed straight out of the steamer and the chicken cooked but again, absolutely no flavor. I asked for hoisin sauce to give it since flavor but I've never heard of Thai fried rice with no flavor (and I do mean NO flavor, not even salt). Bland is the only word I can think of. It was explained to be by the waiter that this is how Thai fried rice is made. My wife had pad se ew and it had flavor. I've had Thai fried rice in a number of other places and while the flavor varied, there at least was flavor. I can't say anything about the other dishes but don't order the Thai fried rice unless you want something with no taste or flavor. We stopped by the day before the Fourth of July for dinner, and it was surprisingly quiet. The interior could definitely use a refresh as it has the potential but the food made up for it. The Tom Kha, Papaya Salad, and Mango Sticky Rice were all delicious--I genuinely had no complaints. We did order a House Fried Rice as well. Ordered this for my mom, friend and I during our short stay here. I personally ordered the pad see ew and as someone who eats pad see ew constantly and it's my favorite dish. It was the most mid meal I've ever had. It was seasoned unevenly, which meant I was eating chunks of pepper and then chunks of salt. I added soy sauce to make it taste better. The house fried rice looks plain and taste just as bad as it look. The steam mussels not butter , no flavor. Great food and even better service! This spot was conveniently close to our hotel, so we decided to have dinner here on our first night--and we're so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. The servers were friendly and made us feel right at home. There's not many Asian restaurants in Tahoe city so I'd come back here if I was craving Asian food and was too lazy to cook it myself. However if this restaurant was anywhere else, I wouldn't come back here. The red curry was good but a small portion. It also was 16.95 and did not include rice, which was an extra 3$! The pad see ew was pretty bad. The ingredients used were reminiscent of frozen veggies used in school lunches, the noodles were not the typical fat noodles, and the sauce was way too sweet. Our group came here for Thai food since we were craving for it. The food hit the spot, it was decent, not the best, but the flavors were there. The staff were friendly and accommodated our large party. It was a very old school, local mom and pop vibe. Everybody got their order correct, so definitely big props to the good service! I had the #40 Spicy Fried Rice with chicken and Thai Tea. We also shared a couple of soups including the Tom Yum. The fried rice was good, decent portions, but not that spicy. Nothing exceptional but the flavor was there. Will satisfy a craving for thai curry. The spring rolls were great, very fresh and filled with veggies, and the sweet and sour sauce paired well with it. The worst dish of all was the pad see ew. The dish tasted absolutely nothing like pad see ew. It tasted like stir fried noodles dumped in soy sauce and sugar. Compared to the pad thai, it was disappointing. The water came with no ice and was lukewarm, tasted like it was straight from the tap. At least add some ice to mask that tap flavor. The service was good, they were friendly. I do think there may have been an ownership change though. Food came out fast. The ambiance is alright, it's pretty dim and run down, although the view of the lake is very nice. The tables were sticky and the napkins weren't refilled. This is a pretty good Thai restaurant. My only issue is that the portions weren't consistent. Some dishes seemed to have a lot more food compared to others. But overall it's a good place to eat. Pad Thai is my favorite and there's is pretty good. Flavor wise it is on the sweeter side. You can't go wrong with the shrimp rolls. Definitely get those! The Tom Yum soup is also a must especially when the weather is super cold. It's delicious and will definitely warm you up. The pad see ew and pad kee mao are also flavorful and delicious. For all the dishes you can choose how spicy you would like them to be. Inside was also super clean and nice. There's outside seating as well. The service was also friendly and quick. Pricey and just o-k. After terrible 4th of July decisions I needed some soup. I saw they had Tom Yum but my body was calling for the wonton soup. My partner was craving noodles so he ordered the pad seeyew. The wonton soup was the saving grace. It gave me the electrolytes my body was craving. Nice and garlicky too. I was still hungover after the fact but it made me feel even just a little better. 2 stars for that. The pad seeyew, quite frankly.. was awful. No flavor at all. Expensive too. Crispy duck was so crispy and flavorful that you could even eat the whole cuts including the bone. The pad keaw had very flavorful sauce so made it easy to eat all the mixed veggies on the plate. It tasted like no other pad Thai I've had. It tasted like sugar noodles. So much so, that I feel like it was a mistake. They must have used sugar instead of salt. The service here is extremely bad, the person who is at the front counter is very rude. He is a mid age man with glasses. He does not care to give eye contact and when I asked him a question he would immediately say no before I even asked. I don't think I have ever encounter a place where someone is this rude. Even the person who's as next to me in line saw that and widened his eyes in surprise. The tables are sticky and so are the chair. The place does not have air condition or ventilation. They don't clean the tables after people leave and is honestly concerning. I get it as this is a self seating place, however with COVID implementation they should at least offer cleaning supplies if they don't clean. There are no hand sanitizers around and the restroom are also non ventilated and the doors are sticky. The lock for half the doors in bathroom don't work. We are coming here because food options aren't great. But do not recommend. In addition since it's a open kitchen, you can see they are not constantly washing their hands, using gloves or hair net in cooking and prepping food. If only there were an option for zero stars. I've never left a negative review before, but I've also never felt it so necessary to warn people away from an establishment. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was quite honestly the worst dining experience I've ever had. Upon first entering, the first thing that stood out was the uncleanliness, the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned within the last month. Firstly, the food was inedible bordering on rancid. The chicken and vegetable stir fry's taste (bland) and consistency was as though it had been sitting in a pot for hours or literally someones left over food from the previous night (yes, it was that bad). The potstickers looked and tasted like they had been microwaved after previous freezer burn and also had a rancid taste. Then, the sticky rice (and ironically the thing that took the longest to come out) was served to us in a literal plastic bag and was also stale, dry, and molded together in a ball that was nearly impossible to separate, making it feel more like an afterthought than a side dish meant to complement the meal. I generally avoid complaining in restaurants unless absolutely necessary, but this situation left me with practically no choice. The server (who I later learned is the manger) was rude and condescending, going so far as to tell me that the problem was with my palate rather than the food. To make matters worse, he looked unkempt with bed head like he hadn't showered, and showed no interest in addressing our concerns. When I asked for a refund (since we barely touched any of the food), he flat-out refused, dismissing my request without so much as an apology. He also refused to offer even a partial discount or provide any way to contact the owner, leaving us completely stuck and without resolution. This was not just bad service; it was actively hostile. On top of all of this, the food was ridiculously expensive. I cannot stress enough how disappointing and frustrating this experience was.
