Not only do they charge $3 for less than 8 oz cup of lukewarm "ginger tea", it's not home made or ginger....it's a teabag that clearly states jasmine tea. I ordered through grubhub so I called them. The rep called the restaurant and they wouldn't do anything. So I decided to call directly. I was told that I should have called the restaurant and asked about the tea and that ginger is the same as jasmine. First of all, what kind of markup robbery is 3 bucks for a tea bag? If that's what I wanted I would have got some from my cupboard. Oh and, ummm, even I know there's a huge difference between the ginger and jasmine. Does this guy think I'm that stupid? Delicious Thai Food here; it rivals Dok Bua for sure. Authentic, they have a very interesting Chiang Mai Noodle Soup which is very tasty. The woon sen noodles were also delicious. Service very courteous and attentive. The more authentic dishes are really good here. The pad kee mao and pad see ew were disappointing, both. Dried chicken. Noodles were overcooked. Very reasonably priced. The Fresh Summer Rolls were average; sauce was ok, but not as good as their entree dishes. read more

Dont eat there it has gone rapidly down hill. Cant sit inside the restauraunt anymore take out only knew it was a bad sign. Ordered the shrimp Phad Thai. Completely changed and awful. Liquidy sugary sauce and thin weird noodles and wow four shrimp in the whole little undersized container. Wouldnt even call it Phad Thai. Got a vegetable dish that was way too saucy and the vegetables had no taste at all. With a side of rice two dishes to go was $38. What a ripoff !!!!! Don't believe the good reviews. Worst pad-thai and green curry my wife and I have ever had, and we've lived in the middle of no-where Kansas/Alabama/Colorado, and their Thai food was STILL BETTER and more authentic than this place. I'm confused as to how food could taste so bland, like nothing, and yet still leave a nasty aftertaste in your mouth. I've eaten bad food before, but usually even bad food is still edible - if disappointing. This food was so bad we had to re order from a different place because neither of us could eat more than a couple bites. I ordered the Northern Chicken Curry. Solid solid dish. I love Asian food, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc and have a soft spot in my heart aka belly for Thai food. I have a few super favorite spots but this place for at least this dish was pretty dang good. I would order it again for sure, order again from this place when I am back in the area (maybe try something different cause that's the way I am). I wish sometimes yelp had a 0-100 rating or at least a 1-50 rating cause this place was absolutely not worth a 3 star but in my opinion as a foodie 4 is a bit high not really high but I would say like a 3.8. Just as a guide I think a : 1 is a zero never again 2 is either a bad experience at a good place or less than the norm for it's category 3 is solid, for the type of food it's an every day place, good food but nothing great or holy heck. A place you visit a lot but not one you rush to bring an out of towner to. 4 is really damn good. A place that is above their fellow restaurant in their realm. 4 is something you tell your friends "you gotta try this place" 5 Now a 5 is some place where your meal, experience, feel, taste etc was amazing. I'm more of a Pad See Ew person than Pad Thai. With that said I decided to stick with my favorite Thai dish and ordered it. Turned out to be pretty good! Pretty garlicky but the flavor was rich. I personally tried the Chaingmai Curry Noodles and they were spectacular. The Northern Thai Specialty dishes are unique and always worth the trip to Oak Square. Given the local competition, and the other very competent Thai places in the area, I give this spot 4 stars. We ordered delivery and I have never tasted such bland food, let alone bland Thai food in my life. We ordered the pad Thai, Pad See Eaw, Crab Rangoon and Fried Rice and all were underwhelming and tasteless. Both noodle dishes had plenty of sauce, but no flavour. I'm honestly astounded and confused by all the positive reviews here. I'd believe they may have been having an off night, but for all four dishes to have the same issue makes it hard to make that excuse. Will not be going back. read more

I was recently got into the whole Isan/Chiang Mai thai food trend and discovered Thai North, so I ordered exclusively off their blackboard special menu over the span of a few weeks, here are my thoughts: TN1 Northern Burmese Curry - I got the pork version, it uses fatty pork belly meat which was delicious. You really can't go wrong with sweet meat. 5/5 TN2 Northern Beef Curry - Slightly more flavorful than TN3 due to the basil, but still not that great. 3/5 TN3 Thai Beef Curry - Disappointing, sliced beef, string beans, and pepper, the sauce was bit spicy but the flavor was meh, would not order again. 2/5 TN7 Northern Pork Salad - Best pork larb I've ever had so far. Is not sour like the Isan version. 5/5 TN8 Duck Salad - wasn't a fan, the texture and the flavor didn't feel good enough. 3/5 TN14 Chaingmai Rice Vermicelli - light, homey, could eat this every day but it didn't feel like it was worth the $10 it cost. 3.5/5 TN15 Rice vermicelli - more flavor than TN14, with thicker noodles, and has bouncy pork balls. 4/5 TN16 Chaingmai Noodle Curry - Really damn good, like, wow. 5/5 TN17 Northern Herb Fish - Kinda like TN2 but with more varieties of veg and replaced the beef with fish. 3/5 would not order again TN18 Chaingmai Sausage - The flavor is on point, but the sausage felt a tad dry, and the portion was a little sad. 4/5 read more

Super solid Thai food and fast delivery. The Siam Rolls, Scallion Pancakes and Gyoza are all delicious appetizers. The Drunken Noodle and Pad See Ew taste authentic and are just the perfect amount of spicy. Because there are so many restaurants in Boston that I have yet to try, I'm always super reluctant to make any repeat trips...Thai North is one of the only exceptions. With a menu as extensive as theirs, I could go back 50 times and order something different each time. (So I'm looking forward to trying the Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Fried Rice and Pad Thai!) read more

Ah, the double-edged sword of any random person being able to submit a Yelp review. People with axes to grind, entitled grumps, "foodies" with no real knowledge of food/cuisine/culture, etc. are all able to drop 1 and 2 star reviews and do real damage to a good business' reputation. It's a shame. Be sure to check their other reviews (if there are any), and look for patterns/motives. Hands down, this is the best Thai food in the area. I just moved to the area and was amped to find out I had 2 thai restaurants around. I lived in Thailand for an extended period of time before coming here and was hoping to find a place that could whip up something legit. Thai North was the first place I felt like I was "back home." As soon as the waitress found out I spoke thai, she refused to speak english to me ever again - which is awesome. It's certainly more of a take-out place, but I'll continue to eat in just for the waitress. Onto the food. When they say spicy, they mean real spicy, not fake american palate "spicy." Not only that, but I was even able to get some of the lesser known meals of the rural region I lived in - a rare find outside of Thailand. Food was fine. My problem was with the service. I ordered delivery because I could not go out for food. Decided to treat myself with this place. Overpriced but I gave a $10 tip for a half mile delivery and 2 floor walk up just to have the guy not buzz my apt or even attempt to deliver. He called me yelling at me to come downstairs. Upon getting my stuff, my iced tea was completely spilled in the bag and he didn't even say sorry or ThankYou. I kept hearing great things, but have yet to have a good experience. 1. Tom Kha soup, broth is awesome, chicken a little dry. 2. Crispy Pad Thai w/ chicken, dry and flavorless. The noodles tasted more like styrofoam than food. They threw in a side of hot sauce, but I expected more when I requested that it be made hot. Other than that, there was no obvious sauce. 3. Masaman curry, boring, watery, not a lot of taste. I asked for spicy but that wasn't the case. Sticky rice was fine. 4. Fried Ice Cream, came wrapped in plastic, THEN covered in whipped cream and sprinkles. When we called the restaurant to ask what happened she seemed surprised when we said we did t want to eat plastic. It was an awful end to a disappointing meal. There is an abundance of options, ranging from Vietnamese pho to pad thai. The restaurant itself is fairly small with a couple of tables to serve around 10 people in total. Photos of each dish are plastered on the walls, which I personally like because I am a picky eater, and I want to see how my dish looks! This place is very close to my boyfriend's home, so we tend to eat out/order from Thai North often. My favorite dish is the gyoza. Very nice and crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Just a note: there is a difference between their gyoza versus their regular dumplings. I am also a fan of their noodle plates. In general, the portions are pretty big so you will be leaving with an empty stomach, and possibly some leftovers too! read more

Came here while waiting for my train, which was to depart in an hour. The service was great, taking into consideration my time limit. I was so excited and a little overwhelmed at the number of menu options. However, I ended up settling for a classic pad thai with crispy chicken since it was easy to pack and eat later. I'm pretty picky about pad thai and love to compare/try pad thais from every thai restaurant. I guess I've been spoilt by living in Asia. This pad thai was too oily and soggy - I'd give it a rating of 5/10. The crispy chicken was good but the noodles lacked flavor and spice. A pretty mellow pad thai. My friend ordered a burmese curry, which neither of us were impressed with as it was a little watery and mild. I'd be open to trying other dishes in this place again since there are so many dishes to choose from! Perhaps I'll have a better experience next time. read more

I've lived in Oak Square for 6 years and just never tried ordering from Thai North...until tonight. Our Thai go-to has been Bangkok Bistro in Brighton Center. But tonight we thought we'd give Thai North a try, especially after seeing that their prices are slightly less. The person taking our order over the phone was extremely pleasant. She quoted us a 45 min delivery time. We ordered the Crab Rangoon and Thai Curry Puff appetizers. My husband ordered the Indonesian Fried Rice (his usual dish) and I, the Basil Pad Thai, which was honestly the BEST Pad Thai I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. I didn't try the Indo Fried Rice, but my hubs said it was very good. The Thai Curry Puffs are my new favorite appetizer. And the Crab Rangoons were lovely, not at all greasy like some places can make them. Oh, and the delivery arrived in 15 min! Bottom line: This is definitely our new go-to Thai place. I discovered the majesty that is drunken noodles a few years ago. Since then, I have always ordered them when ever I see them available. I've had a huge variety of drunken noodles, different variations, different qualities, over the years. With that said, Thai North's drunken noodles are THE BEST I have *EVER* had the pleasure of eating. The sauce was perfectly distributed, the noodles were perfectly cooked, the vegetables were just crunchy enough still, the spices were superb, and the TOFU (my biggest issue) was absolutely devine (crisp and flavorful on the outside, perfect soft consistency on the outside), whereas usually it is poorly cooked, mushy, and taste funny. The spring rolls were amazing as well! Super fresh and crunchy, and they were huge! Biggest rolls I've ever seen. And the delivery guy was super nice, which is always appreciated! read more

I have ordered from here a LOT over the last year or so and can't say I've ever been disappointed. One time I was missing something in my soup but I always order through Foodler so I was credited for that very quickly. Their soups are really good - I've tried a few and they don't disappoint. Especially on cold winter days or when you feel like you're getting sick and just want some simple soup. They also package the food well so nothing ever leaks. I only order delivery and always receive my food in good condition. It's always annoying to be excited to get your food, only to find out half your soup spilled, the sauce from your entree leaked out and got everything else super sticky, you're missing utensils, or that item that was actually supposed to be cold was actually surrounded by hot items so now it's an odd temperature and tastes funny. Overall - highly recommend for delivery! I've never actually been in the restaurant and always get delivery. Mainly because I'm too lazy to drive 5 minutes to pick up my food. read more

No No No. Some say S&I in Allston, some say Thai Place is better, some say Sweet Pepper in Brighton is best. Whether you've heard from your token asian friend or drunk roommate that any of the above are some of the best around, if ONE person tells you that THIS place is good then check their pulse for either diabetes or just to see if they're dead. The place LOOKS nice, the staff are odd, really odd. The food really does LOOK nice, but it tastes really really terrible. Asian food, generally, is quite simple to cook. Not to prepare maybe, but to cook, it's like Italian or blah blah blah. One two three, you're done in minutes. But just like pizza, SO MANY get it wrong. First shot, the old reliable's, shrimp pancakes, Pad Thai and Masaman Curry. ALL LOOKED good, but probably the worst 'thai' food I've eaten in a long time. As bland and tastless as Brown Sugar on Comm Ave. Really really disappointing. Way too much fish sauce in the curries and noodles and WAY too much syrup in the drinks. If they ever get it right, I MIGHT come back............. ...........If I'm homeless and find money on the street one day. If this is supposed to be close to authentic, then INDIAN is my new favorite ethnic food. The only problem I have with this place is that it took us so long to discover it! After a very mediocre experience at Bangkok bistro and a downright poor experience at sweet pepper (fishy taste in EVERYTHING) we decided to finally try Thai North. OMG, it is delicious! Authentic, great food, pictures of everything, you know what you're getting. The Thai iced tea puts southern sweet tea to shame. My husband traveled in Thailand and agrees that this is the best Thai he's tasted in the Boston area. They even have a secret menu of super authentic dishes. The Northern Curry is incredible. My go to is the basil pad Thai --- yum! The fresh rolls are lettuce-heavy but that's a good thing, and the peanut sauce is the best I've tasted. I suggest the dine in experience -- no alcohol but the staff is extremely friendly and the place very clean. Great atmosphere. Little touches like specially folded straws and authentic serving ware make it a really wonderful experience. Every time we leave we tell them we'll be back soon. I got the drunken noodles with a side of crab ragoons, vegetable soup and a diet coke - all for 13.95! Everything was delicious, but the thing that stood out the most to me was, surprisingly enough, the VEGETABLE SOUP! Who would've thought.. Really, who likes vegetables. I only ordered it because I figured I should get my greens in somewhere... It was perfectly seasoned chicken stock with tofu&cabbage. Went here with a friend after a movie and enjoyed the experience. It's a small place that can seat maybe 30 people, but the food and service was great. We shared an order of the Chiang Mai Sausage as an appetizer and then I had the Curry Noodle Soup, which was really yummy. The Chiang Mai Sausage was spicy, yet not overpowering. The broth of the Curry Noodle Soup had enough curry flavor to coat the noodles and other goodies in the soup bowl, while not overpoweringly so that you couldn't drink the broth as well. I also thought it was funny, yet helpful, that there were laminated photos of every dish adorning the walls of the restaurant for your ordering ease and to make going out of the box a little easier for the thai food neophyte. Thai North is a really great gem in Brighton that's casual and quaint. I have a serious addiction to Thai food so I probably order food from here or two other Thai places I'm addicted to about twice a week. The food here is awesome, just inconsistent. You can order the same bowl of Tom Yum Noodle soup three times a week and each time it'll be different. They often tend to forget important things, too, like sides of string beans, wontons, or one time where they actually forgot to give me the vegetables for my soup. However, what you doooo end up getting is usually delicious. I will say, there pad thai doesn't even remotely come close to S&I's basil pad thai, but their crispy chicken pad thai is pretty good. And again, their Tom Yum is noteworthy. They do deliver, which is great, but it's much quicker to just go grab it yourself if you can. They're speedy with making the food usually so if you call and then leave your house it's usually ready as soon as you get there. read more

Judging from the other reviews, I'm not sure if I went to Thai North on an off night. I went with two others on a Saturday night. We were the only guests, so service was attentive and very kind, but she seemed new to the job of waitress and didn't speak English very well so asking questions was not a smooth process. The place is sparsely decorated with various Thai wall hangings, and molded elephant statues sit on the floor, staring at you as you eat. A big screen TV plays an endless loop of commercials for what looks to be the opportunity to star in a Thai music video. We were seated and our order taken: chicken wings and spring rolls for appetizers; chicken pho bowl and two royal tofu dishes for entrees. First problem: they do not have anymore royal tofu or chicken wings. On a Saturday night, 1/2 of what we want to order is unavailable. OK, it's a new joint, we'll but them some slack. We re-order: spring rolls and chicken dumplings for apps, pho bowl, yellow curry and pad thai for entrees. The appetizers arrive. They're obviously frozen food, the dumplings have that familiar processed chicken inside them and the spring rolls are generic store bought ones. The chicken dumplings upset my stomach a little bit, and they were not even half eaten when the waitress returned. She asked if everything was OK with the food, and we lied. The entrees arrived soon after. The curry and pad thai looked good, but my pho bowl was missing bean sprouts, which I adore. I checked the menu, and it said they should be included so I asked the waitress about it. Her response was that they were out of bean sprouts. At that point I'm seriously considering asking to go into the kitchen to see what exactly they DO have. So my pho bowl was incomplete. It was also pretty bland, and the chicken was obviously prepared (it has that even sliced look, like deli meat) and frozen. I've had many better pho bowls in this city. The pad thai and curry went over a little better, but no one was particularly enthralled or happy with the food. So, upfront, here is the downside of this place: I'm always comparing other Thai places to Thai North. The food is really, really good (in my opinion... I understand that there is some level of subjectivity when it comes to Thai food). We live just up the hill from this place, so we eat there a lot and are basically experts on both the Basil Pad Thai (excellent) and the Indonesian Fried Rice (I don't eat meat, but my dude says it's awesome). You can also get a cold-and-refreshing Thai iced tea slushie. WHAT. THAT IS SUCH A GREAT IDEA. There has always been an open table when we've been dining in, and delivery in the surrounding neighborhood is quick and efficient. The staff is friendly, and have always been really willing to work with us, even when we bring a giant group of people into their relatively small space. When we aren't in a hurry, or are accompanied by a group of ambitious diners, we often order a variety of dishes and split them; I've never had anything that I didn't like, and the waiter recommendations are really delicious. Even if you don't live in Oak Square, it's worth it to give this place a try. read more
