This place has been really hit or miss. The first time I came in, I had a great experience. The service was excellent and the food was good (a tad pricey but worth it). The second time I came in was for lunch. The waitress was rude and we left after waiting 10 minutes without menus. The third time I got my food to go. Sushi was pretty bad. This place had a rough opening, but pulled it together quickly and had great food and service. I was a regular and they have recently reverted back to average service and food. I will say the Sushi is still top notch, but the Thai side of the house is lacking. ALL of the service staff that was great is now gone, and they have the gone back to inexperienced staff. Hadn't eaten here since before Covid - very disappointed in two things: while all the staff were wearing masks, two of them had them sitting below their nose (what's the point, right?) - including the guy making sushi! And, most of the tables were NOT 6 feet apart or blocked on their covered patio. Since seating was open/sit wherever-you-want policy, it was uncomfortable worrying about others coming in and sitting right next to or behind us. I called in my order well in advance and still ended up waiting for more than 15 mins for someone to take my credit card. The young blonde server grabbed my card out of hand without taking my coupon and got upset when I reminded her about it. She took off without handing me my food and I had to ask the manager to bring them. The Pad Thai was supposed to be spiciness #4 but it was not spicy at all with over powering vinegar taste. I have heard nothing but the best things about this place for a very long time and I'm so glad I finally stopped in. I could not be happier from every single second from walking in with the nicest people working here and the best food I've probably ever had in my life. Went here today to take home lunch, ordered Pad Thai with Chicken. I was asked for my preference of spice level; 1 being bland, 10 being very spicy, I ordered a 4 thinking just right, right? It was so spicy I couldn't enjoy and to top it off, the chicken strips were like leather, maybe reheated from earlier? All this wrapped up in a box for the price of $15.00. . I am really disappointed with the visit. It was my second time there. The first time was OK, nothing special, that's why me and my bf decided to try it out one more time. BIG MISTAKE! When we got in we got seated by someone that doesn't even work there. LOL After 10min of sitting a waitress came up and gave us the menu and left not saying a word. We were waiting another 20min for her to come and take our drink order. (At that point we knew exactly what we want to order food and drink wise). She took my order and my bf's order. Not waiting for us to finish the drink order for our son she left. It took another whole 15min for her to bring us the drinks. She put them down and again left! After another 10min she came to take our food order, so we finally ordered and told her about the orange juice for our son. 30 min past and we finally got the food but no juice. After 10min into eating our food I decided to walk up to the lady about the drink and she replied that they ran out of orange juice. It is her job to come and inform me not me to come up to her. After we ate my bf decided to go and ask for the check cause it would probably last again another 20min or so. The food was good but the service horrible! The restaurant wasn't full at all and the restaurants manager was sitting, counting money a typing on his laptop instead of helping his employees that surely had a problem with organisation and just handling costumers in general. I don't want to be nagging but I worked in the hospitality/restaurant business as a waitress, bartender and manager for a good couple years all around the world and this is unacceptable and frankly I would be ashamed being the manager of this venue. I'm giving this place 5 stars because I pulled up at 10 minutes to 9 last night to try to get something to eat because I was starving! And I wanted sushi! I got a chance to meet the owner and he talked about how fresh his fish was and where it came from and different countries that came from! It sounded yummy! I ordered the Thai BBQ skewers and the bulletproof tiger! I must say I understood what he meant when he said he has the freshest fish! It was light it and flavorful, when I finished eating I didn't feel like I had more rice than I had fish, considering I ate this at 9:30 at night it was delightful I will be back and I'm bringing my girlfriend for the chef special! Best Thai restaurant in the Encinitas/ Carlsbad IMHO. The flavors were authentic. We started with the steak salad and it was comparable to a Thai steak salad that we had at the four seasons in Ko'Olina. The Tom Yom was spot on both sour and sweet with a dash of tanginess. Two of the four people in our party were served 15 minutes ahead of the other two. Evidently, there was a rice shortage in the kitchen that prevented the food from being delivered at the same time. When the rice was served, only half of the amount was delivered, and when we asked for more rice, it never came. She even said we needed her to be like our mother! What? I want to think her intentions were good but her delivery was terrible. I hardly want to mention it because we won't be able to hoard the sushi bar much longer, but this spot is top-freakin-notch. My husband is THE pickiest when it comes to sushi so getting his gold star on this was everything. We went all in with the omakase tonight and were not disappointed. Everything was delicious but the salmon was our absolute standout. I didn't take enough photos because I devoured the food too quickly but the presentation only added to how delicious everything was. I have been waiting for this place to open for a couple months now. I finally swung by to try it today and wow was I disappointed. Decently expensive with very little in reward. I ordered Pad Thai and Drunken noodles with chicken in both and the chicken was like eating tree bark, far too dry. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was probably one of the worst I've experienced. The chef overdid it on the soy sauce, nasty. Looks like I'll be sticking with Thai Society down near McDonalds in Encinitas. $30 spent just to eat a few bites of food! This establishment has improved a lot since I first went several months ago. At first the wait times for food service and take out were too long. The Thai food side is very good and fresh. I have not tried the sushi yet. The owner is on site, but not super interactive with new customers. I would think he would want to create rapport with any customer that walks in, but he leaves that to the staff. The staff members are friendly and efficient. Overall, I enjoy take out more from here than sitting down for the meal, as table space is limited and ambiance is pretty much like the Pick up Stix that was there before. read more

Blown away by this place, food was amazing! We were told that the restaurant is under new management. They have new sushi chefs and are ordering from new fish suppliers. Whatever they are doing is working. The concept is interesting. This restaurant is essentially two restaurants in one. TOO Sushi Project and Thai One On. We started with a couple of appetizers from the sushi menu, the BBQ Albacore was to die for! They make their own Tamago, it was pure perfection and the best I've ever had. For nigiri we ordered tuna, salmon and scallops. We also ordered two rolls. Salmon 360 and the La Costa roll. The nigiri and rolls were delicious! Really good quality fish. One person in our group was not a sushi lover but wanted to check out the thai menu. He ordered the Pad See Ew, we are still dreaming about it. He also ordered a curry that he really enjoyed, I personally did not try the curry. Shout out to our waitress who was very friendly, helpful with the menu, and would come and check on us always at the perfect time.
