An excellent and understated Thai place in Holiday. They have opened the small dining area after closing it during COVID restrictions, but I usually just order takeout. I've never had a bad meal here, and the people who work here are very friendly and orders are on time. I did read a previous review about the food here which suggested the it lacked the heat found in a lot of Thai dishes and honestly it is true. A little more would be welcome from me, but I just add a little chili paste and it's all good. Both the noodle and stir fry dishes are great and I highly recommend them all! read more

Great Thai restaurant with an unassuming front. The dishes were very pleasant and flavorful and what I appreciated most about this place was that the dishes weren't over saturated with sweetness like many Thai places go wrong in Utah. I'm sorry to have to give a one star review. The man that took our order was friendly and pleasant, unfortunately the food was underwhelming at best. I ordered drunken noodles, which is confusing in and of itself, they call them Guay Tiew Pad Kee Mao, I have been eating it for a while and would always orderPad Kee Mao and that seemed to work fine. Anyway, my drunken noodles, ordered medium hot, were sooo bland, and dry, and not at all hot. My meal was also missing the Thai basil, the tomatoes, the green peppers and any kind of sauce at all. I was so bummed because I love drunken noodles! My wife ordered something that I can't remember the name in hot, zero heat , zero flavor! Thankfully, we had some Buffalo wild wing Asian zing in the fridge at home to help us get that bland food down This was an in restaurant take out order, btw. Sounds like lunch is the way to go here. The menu is pretty simple with a few little surprises here and there, and the place is charmingly small. All things that I don't mind in a dinner place, but I usually love in a lunch place. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They were all over the water situtation, very helpful and honest in their recommendations on the menu, and the chef (owner?) came out and greeted every table when he had a chance. Pad Siew, Pad Thai, curry; we hit the basics and they were all good. I can't say the food knocked me over. It was good. Solid. Not any complaints. I'd drop in for lunch anytime without a reservation. And you're not going to be disappointed by coming here for dinner, but you're probably not going to be wowed, either. Then again, who needs to be wowed every meal? They have many dishes--vegetarian, chicken, beef, pork or fish, tofu, regular or green curry sauce, peanut sauce, coconut milk sauce, etc. Most entrees come with a tiny salad and as much rice as you want. I have been to Thai Orchid before but usually order take out because I'm lazy and don't want to cook sometimes. I got massaman curry and some egg rolls tonight and was surprised to have it delivered not more than 30 minutes later. The food was hot enough to need a slight cooling before eating and the spice level was spot on. Usually we tour the menu and everything we've had has been wonderful. I would give this 5 stars based on lunch alone, but seeing as that it's not really ambient enough for me to want to spend a dinner night here. However, the food is great. The lunch special comes with the perfect amount of food and the salad dressing is phenomenal. They also make a great tofu version of the tom kha, not too sweet. It's small, so lunch can get busy and a tad bit slow...but that's something you have to accept with pleasure and face the fact that there are 2 people on hand, server & cook. It's great. This is by far the best Thai food in the Salt Lake Area. Everything is cooked when you order so everything tastes fresh instead of like it's been sitting in a warming oven all day. I didn't want to drive all the way to my regular place on 13th S, so we ordered from this place instead. I should have driven. I placed a $60 order and found the portions to be similar to the lunch specials at my normal place. As I entered, I was greeted by a guy wearing a black medical face mask. I'm not sure what he had, but that was disconcerting. I also saw the person cooking stick his finger in his ear and do a quick clean. A young couple sitting by the window stood up and left, without eating or I presume ordering; I'd say nobody even acknowledged them and they were fed up. So.... back to the food. The portions were tiny. And, Pad Graw Prow should be more than Grean beans and onions with raw tofu. At least, my item was spicy. read more

The food here is so amazing and about as authentic as it gets, (and I've been to Thailand a few times) It is my choice for my birthday dinner every year. They have a wonderful selection of dishes and you can specify the amount of heat and add extra meat. The staff is wonderful, the restaurant is quaint and clean, and the food is quality. Mmmm just thinking about this place is making me crave it! My friend found this place and always talked it up to me so I just recently went with her to try it. Where do I begin? I ordered the Pad Siew with beef which was so delicious. I asked them to make mine spicy and they made it spicy! This is unsual because most restaurants are scared to add spice when you request it. The noodles, veggies, and beef were so good that I was silently ignoring my friends' conversation the whole time we were there. The price was really good for the great quality of food. The service is great. The atmosphere is great. If you love finding hole-in-the-wall places that have authentic food... this is perfect for you. People sometimes ask me what my favorite food is. Because I'm Indian, they assume I'll say Indian food. WRONG. If there's one cuisine I could eat forever, it would probably be Thai food, especially if I can get it from this restaurant! The second time I came to this restaurant, she remembered to give me extra hot sauce/powder on the side. The third time I came in, she remembered that I liked my entrees spicy without me even having to tell her. AND she brought out some hot sauce before I even asked! Each time I go here, I've tried something new. The first two times I went here, I got take out for lunch. The portions are perfect (even for a VERY hungry girl like me). It comes with two entrees, rice and salad. The salad dressing is DELICIOUS. (In fact, it was SO good that I ate the remaining dressing with rice even after I finished my salad!) The other great thing about this place is that everything has a distinct flavor and is never greasy! (Not like another [unnamed] Thai place nearby which has a tendency to get my husband sick at least once every three times he eats there. I don't know why he keeps going back. *shakes head*) I've tried the green curry, the massaman curry, the pad gra pow, the pra ram, the mee jay noodles and the pad siew. Everything was amazing! After having lived in Thailand for some time I have been very fond of Thai cuisine, but not just any Thai cuisine, I prefer authentic Thai cuisine. This place hits the nail on the head! The food here is authentic as it gets without buying a $1000 ticket to fly 8000 miles to Bangkok. The family that owns and operates this little restaurant is from Thailand and it shows. The look and feel of the restaurant is totally Thai. You cannot have a Thai restaurant without a picture of the King and this place has one. I'm sorry, nothing throws off the experience for me than to walk into a Thai restaurant with a sense of identity confusion. This place is not Japanese, not Korean, not Chinese, it is Thai and I love it. :D Now on to the most important part of a restaurant, the food. Thai food is spicy. Since moving back to the states everything tastes bland, I need some spice in my life. This food has it, though they don't often make it as spicy as i would like, but it's still good. I have tried nearly everything on their menu and I love all of it. I don't think there is a single item that I would not recommend and so I have a hard time coming up with favorites. It's like choosing between my right and my left foot, I sort of need both. Listed below are a few of my recommendations: As far as curry is concerned Gaeng Massaman is always a favortie by anyone who goes there, but I will suggest trying the Gaeng Ga Ree (yellow curry), it will blow your mind. Their Paad Gra Prow is amazing, but you should also try the Num Tok. Lots of people love Paad Thai, might I suggest trying the Paad Si-Ew as well. Fun night out with the hubby and his little bro and Thai food was definitely on the mind of at least one of us. So, we decided to try this cute little place. Little is a key word in describing this place. VERY small. And there is something fascinating about what that does to the sound in there. Somehow you can hear everything that everyone in the room says, very clearly, even if they are speaking quietly. I tried not to, but heard all about how this couple just got engaged in Paris. I tried not to talk about anything personal and really tried not to comment on anyone else in the room! It was cute though. Nice. Clean. All good. Some very interesting wall hangings. The best part was the staff. Very friendly. Totally on top of the water. Great to make recommendations and give opinions when asked. The food was good. Not the best I've had. But decent. I for sure would say yes if someone invited me to eat there again. But I might not make it my first pick. read more

When our first pick for lunch turned out to be closed, we took a look around and saw two restaurants. One had a full parking lot of cars in front of it, while the other looked like it, too, might be closed. We picked the restaurant less visited...and it made all the difference. With a proprietor who clear spoke English only as a second language and enough Thai art (elephant sculptures, multi-armed goddesses and the like) to fill a crate, I knew we were going to get authentic Thai cooks, if not also authentic food, and we did get authentic food. For my first meal at Thai Orchid, I chose a classic: pad thai. In response to our waitress' broken English question about spiciness, I said that I liked spicy. She smiled a grin that seemed to be half laughing at me. I could tell why as soon as I started into the sticky, sweet pasta-it was spicy. Add to that a pepper I had sprinkled over it, at the host's suggestion, and it was a meal that cleaned out my sinuses. I don't, however, regret it. The dish was excellent, and I left little on my plate. Among the many Thai restaurants I've sampled over the years, this is one of the better pad thai recipes I've enjoyed. Hands down the best Massaman Curry and Pad Gra Prow in the valley. The chef is fantastic and formally trained in Thailand from what I understand. What you'll get when you go to Thai Orchid is phenomenal food, Great service, pleasant atmosphere, and at a reasonable price. I've been to about all the Thai restaurants from Salt Lake to Provo and can say without any reservation that Thai Orchid is the best. For example, head in, order the Massaman Curry and Pad Gra Prow, and notice the subtle and important differences in spices used vs. someplace like Sawadee (which I also like). Most places around the valley use the same pastes, and do basically the same things, but you'll find that the folks at Thai orchid add their secret mix of spices to give it that mouth watering edge. I'm not employed by these guys or affiliated with them in any way, but I've recommended them to about everyone I know, have taken many many people there and all have agreed that this is some serious Thai food. read more

So I do not eat Thai food often but decided to go out and Try the Orchid. The place has a great feel to it with the decorations and the TV playing with scenes of Thailand. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful in my order. They even suggested a different meat that would taste better with the sauce I ordered so they really were looking out for me and cared about my experience there. The food was great. The taste was perfect. Like I said I haven't been to to many Thai places but this was the best Thai food I have had yet. I would (and will) definitely go there again. read more
