Not all dishes are a 5 star but most have been palatable. Generous portion sizes, the flavor is there. Some things are a little bland fortunately I travel with Maggi and sweet chili sauce. Absolutely get takeout here. The food is just amazing. The quality of the meat is great, the flavors so spot on. Large portions, good value for the money. The spring rolls were excellent. Large size and great flavor, not overly mushy. The egg rolls, however, I could not eat. The cabbage was extra stinky. One thing worth noticing is a lack of ingredients. Example: the panang curry we've ordered other places has potatoes, mushrooms, and other unidentifiable spices visible in the sauce. This sauce just had peppers. Truly, the spices weren't missed, they're more like landmines waiting to crack your teeth, but I missed the potatoes. The cashew chicken was just as described, cashews and chicken. I would have liked some broccoli or peppers too. And the fried rice was... fried rice. No egg, carrots, peas, nothing. So just take your order very literally. It's simple but excellent. Now. Dining in? No thank you. This was obviously first an Italian restaurant in the 90s. How can I tell? Clues are: venetian wall mural, plaster lady fountains, trellis with artificial ivy, columns, urns, travertine look alike tile, etc. The booths are so smushed and cracked. The bathroom literally has duct tape. No toilet paper in the stalls, but toilet paper was in the paper towel dispenser. Just no effort was made for a dining experience. There were some homemade orchid paintings around I guess? Everything in this place needs updating. It was all so very clean, though, so only 1 star was removed. read more

Being far from home, I needed a Thai food fix and this place did it. Food was hot, fresh and had a very impressive menu. Had one waitress tending multiple tables, but don't under estimate her, she was on top of it. Everything from seating guests, taking orders, serving dishes and ringing up the customers. Hands-down, the food here is amazing. The service is also incredible. Probably the most impressive thing about this restaurant is that a single waitress mans the whole restaurant. She greets you when you walk in, seats you at a table, brings you your drinks and takes your order, brings you your food, make sure your drinks are refilled, cashiers you at the front and also takes to go orders while everything is going on. All of this even with a full restaurant. Every time I visit this restaurant, I want to pull her aside and offer her a job immediately at my office. Aside from the jaw-dropping service, the food is delicious. I have to be honest, I have only eaten two entrées at this restaurant. They are so delicious that I don't want anything else when I come in. 90% of the time I order the red curry chicken. I have even come on consecutive days to eat the red curry chicken because it is so delicious. The other dish I have tried is the Pad Thai. I also generally get the chicken satay for an appetizer. After moving from a place where there 2 or 3 Thai restaurants near by at all times, I was really stoked to find that Wichita Falls has at least 1! When the craving for curry hit me, my boyfriend and I went to check it out. Their chicken satays were decent. A little small, but they were still tasty. I got the paneng chicken curry, which by my standards was decent. I felt like it could have had a little more flavor, but what was there was still satisfying. My boyfriend got the Four Color and he loved it. Being that it was his first Thai food experience, I would say that's a good sign! While it doesn't beat my favorite places back in the PNW, I fully plan to visit again. The waitress was really friendly and the food was good. What more could you ask for?! read more

I have to preface this by saying that the town Thai Orchid is in is fairly synonymous with having a fairly uniform taste in cuisine preference, and that cuisine is bland. I have heard time and time again how wonderful this place was to eat, I sat with a group of people who all rejoiced in the deliciousness of their plates. But it was clear-- none of them had ever tried Thai food outside of Wichita Falls, and all of them felt it was far too spicy at their levels of 2 or 3. I asked for 5 and still wasn't satisfied. This is not the place for people who have tried real Thai food and are looking for a flavorful kick of spices. I love all kinds of curries! But this place is so watery that the consistency barely even coats the rice. That ALL being said- I have been to this place and have seen time and time again people complain to management about how spicy or "over complicated" their food was (due to the various "strange" vegetables (aka a carrot cut NOT in the shape of a little fat finger) and flavors added) - management looked like they were at the end of their rope. I truly believe they know how to cook, but they've been limited by their location. Just not a place for someone who knows what good Thai food is. The service is great and the place looks like an old Italian restaurant (???) but really this review is a commentary for those from outside- save your money if your looking for the burst of flavor and mouth watering aroma of different spices if you enjoy the taste of Thai food. Again, I do not blame management. Thai Orchid is a curious creature, because despite all of its odd quirks and average tasting food, I quite enjoy going here. I don't know if it's the fact that it's the only Thai option in town or if it's the impressive efficiency of the one waitress who works here (also a rarity in this town), but there's something about this place that keeps me coming back. Housed in what was clearly an old Italian restaurant whose last remodel could not have possibly happened before the 90s, Wichita Falls' only Thai restaurant is far from visually appealing -- a fact not at all buffered by staleness of the air and the creaky, stiff booths surrounding the perimeter of the dining area. The service, however, is great. The Waitress (yes, she deserves to be capitalized) is fast, friendly, and doesn't bother with canned pleasantries because she's the only server there and doesn't have to time to schmooze. Service here is exactly what I want from Asian restaurants at this price point (everything is $10 or less). Whether you're the only person in the restaurant or there are 10 tables who ordered at the same time, you're gonna get your food pretty quickly. The menu is rather large, and not all dishes are winners. I can vouch for the pad thai, the pad see-ew, the red curry, and the pad kra pow. If you have any soul whatsoever, you will at least get a medium amount of spice added, and if you sold that soul to Satan (or are Thai), you can request "Thai spicy." If you cannot handle the hottest wings at any of the wing joints in town, then you are definitely not ready for Thai spicy, and the restaurant often assumes that most patrons aren't, and so if you merely ask for "spicy," you'll what what my friends and I call "white people spicy." I say this because my partner -- who is white -- always has to specify "Thai spicy" when wants it hot. Our Thai friend, on the other hand, never needs to clarify. It is slightly racist, but considering most of Wichita Falls' aversion to spice, I understand why it happens. #brownprivilege In a city like Dallas, Thai Orchid would have a tough time. Here in Wichita Falls, where deep-fried everything is king, Thai Orchid successfully fills a necessary niche in this town's culinary landscape. Lifelong fans of Thai food with lofty expectations will likely leave feeling disappointed. Those in need of an introduction to Thai or those merely looking to satisfy their Thai food cravings without having to leave town will leave happy. Know before you go: the food at dinner is way better than the food served at lunch. I don't know if this is intentional, or if there are two different cooks, but at least in terms of the pad thai (which, let's be honest, is what you're going to order 50% of the time), the food was consistently better during dinner service.
