It was chicken (that wasn't very tender) cooked in a very light garlic sauce (you could really call it broth) with some veggies. No Thai flavors, no spice, and awfully bland. 4 stars. This place serves well-portioned Thai dishes that pack great oomph and satisfy even the hoity-toitiest of Thai snobs. The crispy sole was battered perfectly, with cashews and apples and a vinegary dressing. The crispy shrimp appetizer is amazing, wrapped in noodles (not battered) and deep fried. My only disappointment was the fried banana dessert. They changed it from what I remember and the bananas come out a bit rubbery. The worst thing I can say about this place is that it's too far away from this Orange County girl. Post-Del Mar fair adventuring with my family, everyone decided Thai sounded good, so I looked for places nearby. I am so, so glad I picked this one, and that it was open. We made it in 15 minutes before they closed, and they still greeted us with smiles and made us feel welcome. The silver noodles were heaven in my mouth. I was just sad my party was so big and I only got one serving of them. I wanted to grab the entire plate, stuf my face, and stab anyone who tried to take any in the hand with a chopstick. Fortunately, I refrained. The pad thai was okay... I think the reason it was only okay was the picky eater in our group who ordered the egg on the SIDE (seriously what who does that GROSS) The seafood delight did what it said on the tin... delighted. We eat here at least twice a month, always take out. The price/quality ratio is as good as it gets. The food is consistently high quality and the service is quick and polite. Though I think I have tried most things on the menu in the last couple of years, I always seem to go back to the Country Curry with tofu. Spicy level four is just perfect for me. My wife loves the Pannang Curry with chicken. If you are hungry for a little bit more, the Thai hand rolls are great. This is literally the best thai restaurant in Encinitas in my opinion. Definitely the most authentic and fresh thai food you can find in our general area. Not only are the people seriously some of the nicest I've ever had the pleasure of being served by, but their food is really really good. My favorite dishes are the yellow curry, tofu noodle salad, and the chow mein. Another really interesting dish is a seafood curry they have that is served in an artichoke, and once you eat the curry you can eat the artichoke leaves and it's very unique and good. Their spring rolls are fresh and delicious and they even have the traditional thai dishes like various curries, spicy green papaya salad, and noodle wrapped fried shrimp. Get the larb and for the love of capsaicin you're at a thai restaurant; it will be bland if you order a dish that is traditionally spicy at a 1 (jeez I will smack you if you do that I swear to fsm) its going to be boring. Get some spice in your life and stop complainig when you ruin it yourself! The portions WERE spot on and the service was good. We dont need to be mothered by our service person. I ordered a vegetable pad Thai for lunch and was pleased with the soup and egg roll that came with it. My mom ordered a green curry with vegetables along with soup and a hand roll. Not all places will give you the variety of vegetables that this place gives so that was very much appreciated. The pad Thai was flavorful; it is the perfect blend of sweet with a tangy, sour flavor. Overall, I think the lunch specials are a great deal. The hand roll was amazing and their peanut sauce is addicting. The curry, however, was mediocre. It was too creamy and as a result, a little bland. Their service was great and the place was clean, so I'm leaving four stars based on the quality of food. We had some people over and didnt want to cook so we got thai food from here to go. We got yellow curry with chicken, green curry with chicken, pad thai, thai basil, and one other noodle dish (cant remember). I ate the curries as that is what i LOVE, and i was not disappointed! I got the green curry spicy level 6 and the yellow spicy level 3 (some people in the group dont like too spicy) thry were both wonderful. Good flavor, good spice, good quality of chicken. The reviews of the noodle dishes were all positive, they said the pad thai was a little different than normal but that they liked the difference. Delicious! The Thai Coconut soup was mouth watering! I love spicy and usually order pretty high on the spice spectrum, so I got the spicy fried rice at a 7. Let me tell you, my eyebrows were sweating and my mouth was burning but it was so yummy! Nice little outside seating area to take in the gorgeous southern California weather. Will definitely return to this spot on my next trip. I've been here 2 or 3 times now and the food has been fantastic every time. It's hard to find good Thai food for a decent price in San Diego, but no need to fear when you walk in this place. When I find a dish I like I usually stick with it. I always order the Pad Thai noodles with beef (spicy level 8, on a scale to 10). Delicious! The portions are just right. My last experience I left very satisfied and didn't have any stomach churnage afterwards! Whereas other Thai places I've left the building driving home like Jason Bourne to make it to the toilet. I only docked them a star because they don't serve alcohol. BUT, they let you bring in your own alcohol! The flavor of the panang chicken is really good wish it came with green beans rather than peppers. It is more creamy coconuty with spice in comparison to other Thai in area. I decided to try this place for lunch yesterday. I reallly wanted yellow chicken curry and my normal place in the area was closed. Wahhhh :( Anyways, I called ahead and ordered the yellow curry lunch special. I was very pleasantly surprised. The curry was good. (not as good as Siamese basil) but it was definitely good. The lunch special also came with an egg roll and a very small soup. Egg roll was fine, pretty basic but the soup.. Oh my god!!! I have no idea what kind of soup that was but it was amazing! Seriously one of the best Thai soups I have tried. I was only there for a minute as I was picking up Togo, but the staff were friendly and the restaurant looked clean. Overall very disappointing take out experience. There are times that you can get away with messing up orders, like if your food is really good or you are respectful of your customer after you have messed up an order. Unfortunately that does not apply to this experience. We don't eat eggs or meat. The menu clearly gives an option for vegetable dumplings. We ordered veg dumplings (as opposed to the chicken ones) and asked specifically for no eggs in our pad Thai twice and recieved confirmation that this would be fine. Get the food. Come back home. Chicken in the dumplings. Egg in the pad Thai. Call them to complain to hear that it's not their problem and they were very busy. The food was ordered at 5 pm and the place was almost empty. I discovered this place some years ago and made it a consistent member on my restaurants to go to list. Especially now that I moved up to LA whenever I'm down in Encinitas visiting family I always try to make my way over to this place. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's on the smaller side but very open and the people who work their are very friendly. I've tried various curry dishes and their fried rice. The food deserves more than 3 stars, but it was the disappointing treatment I received with service that drops this place down a notch. I ordered Som Tum (papaya salad) and green curry one night for take out, for a friend and I. Unfortunately the tiny little box of rice was hardly going to suffice. Both these dishes need rice (ideally sticky rice with the former), and no one wants to get caught with more curry than they have rice to mix with. So I asked the woman who was also an owner for just a little more rice. She wanted $1.50. "But the dishes each need rice don't they?" I inquired. A stern shake of her head told me no matter how much barking, this tree ain't being climbed. I could have easily fished out more money and paid, but the principle of the thing got to me. This is a place I was frequenting about 3 x's a month so when I said, "This is just wrong to me, and I may never come back because of it", I expected a reconsideration. But that didn't happen, and true to my word I've never returned. It's a shame when people don't get how the simplest gestures of customer service (or lack thereof) can seriously make all the difference. read more
