    House salad
    Emma S.

We started off with the house salad which was good. I really liked the peanut sauce, fried wonton strips, and the tofu. The chicken pad thai is delicious. The chicken fried rice is also really good. Large portion sizes and plenty to split. Next time I'd like to try the chicken pad see ew and the spring rolls.

First time visiting this restaurant. We've driven by for years but never went in. Then a friend was raving about the food, so we had lunch there. The food at Bangkok Bay is absolutely delicious. We started with the Tom Kha soup - it was delicious and not spicy. They gave us crushed red chili so we could adjust the spice level ourselves. This is the perfect solution for us as we each have different spice tolerances. The crab fried rice was a real hit. Tasty with a good amount of fresh crab. Triple Dragon with chicken is a fresh tasting stirfry with a brown garlic sauce. Can't wait to try other dishes. Our server was very helpful and made some good recommendations.

Absolutely my favorite little hidden gem in Solana Beach area, cozy seating and low lighting. Ordered drunken noodles with Chicken and Panang curry with shrimp! Both dishes came out hot, with fresh protein. They also served jasmine rice on the side (brown or white). Definitely make a stop next time you are in the area! Pro tip: they open for lunch with smaller serving sizes, little cheaper. Then close around 3 pm and reopen for dinner at 5 pm! It gets busy, so recommend to go earlier if you can.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great food and service with a pleasant atmosphere. We were looking for a place for dinner before a show at The Sound and thought this looked the most appealing. The place was pretty good-sized, with aged but appealing Thai-centric decor. We ordered: - Summer rolls (fresh and huge with nice peanut & sweet and sour sauce) - Pad see ew tofu (med spicy but a little bland--asked for chili sauce) - Eggplant with tofu (med spicy, very good) The portions were big and the service was great. We'd definitely be down to try again the next time we're in the area.

Wow, Bangkok Bay is absolutely delicious! My bestie and I popped in for dinner before a show at the Belly Up, and it was honestly the perfect choice. We started with the Bangkok Bay Boat, since we couldn't decide on a single appetizer. This was the correct decision, as we each item and sauce was superb. Then we shared the Roasted Duck Curry, and we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of duck. We were both perfectly happy and satisfied! Excellent service, and super cute, date night vibes. Highly recommend!

Star Ton. Cream cheese wontons with avocado. Perfectly cooked.

This tiny place is located in a little strip mall along the 101, and the Fire Marshal sign inside says that the maximum number of people allowed inside is 60. I'm not a math guy but I would have guessed 40 at most. I mean, this place is SMALL. But it's cozy, too. So make a reservation. I got denied the first time I came here because I had no reservation. Next, after making a reservation, make sure you order Thai food. Sounds easy, right? It's a Thai restaurant, after all. Well, depending on your company, sometimes it's not so easy. We started with the Star Ton which are cream cheese wontons with a twist: they also include avocado. It's just a tiny bit of an odd combo but they were perfectly cooked and delicious. I know that Thai Iced Coffee is just coffee and condensed milk but it's fantastic and I will always order it and it will help cool down those spicy Thiai dishes, assuming you order something spicy. Plus, here, you get a huge vat of the iced coffee. The unfortunately-named Siamese Twins is a huge platter (enough for two people) of sweet and sour shrimp and chicken. It's about as spicy as pancake syrup. The chicken was meager and the shrimp were even less meager. If this is a Thai dish, then I'm a professional basketball player. But if you love veggies and pineapple in a sweet red syrup, this dish is for you. And no worries. There is no heat to this dish whatsoever. Your Thai Iced Coffee has nothing to cool down. I'm not going to knock this restaurant because we didn't order Thai food in a Thai restaurant. Our server was absolutely wonderful in every way. The decor was great. I would come here again. I might even order spicy Thai food next time. I'm crazy like that.

We absolutely loved this place!! We were visiting from CO and it's been awhile since we've had really authentic Thai food. We fully enjoyed the food and can't get enough of their coconut ice cream. The place is really good so it can get crowded and service might rushed, but they didn't delay our food or their service.

    Spring Roll with Tofu

I know I say this almost every time (because it's true and we have great members) came for tonight's event for six (which turned into 7) at Bangkok Bay, Solana Beach and it was overwhelmingly the most enjoyable experiences that I I've had with this group. Members with amazing backgrounds and experiences. I guess I should start the restaurant review now, huh? We order three different kinds of Curries and one shrimp and vegetable dish along with a big pot of soup. We start with Tom Yum Soup with shrimp. Get the big pot and share it! And our vegetarians are enjoying soup with tofu and spring rolls. Wei says about the soup with shrimp: "It's the right amount of acidity. It's good." Lisa, who is eating a similar but vegetarian soup comments: "It's less fattening than some of the other soups with coconut milk." She comments: "This is my favorite restaurant. I adore it." Carolyn adds: The soup and the springs rolls are fabulous. Ten stars!". We move on to Penang Curry Chicken, Roast Duck Curry, Red Curry with Seafood, Green Curry with Chicken and red peppers, and asparagus and Shrimp. I'm not sure if we got all the proteins right, but we had pork, chicken and shrimp and seafood. And our vegetarians got mostly the same things but either with tofu, seitan or just veggies. Suzy, Carolyn and Theresa are enjoying every mouthful. Lisa just loves the food. Talking about the difference between TomYum and Tom Kai, Theresa chimes in: "Worth the calories". Wei says: "This is roasted duck done in fresh red curry. Very rich. You can feel the difference between that and the Penang Curry with Chicken, which is good but everyone is sweating from the level of spice". If you want to compare curries, Yellow is mild, creamy with warm spices. Red has medium heat, it's creamy, savory and balanced. Panang Red is medium heat, thick, rich and nutty. And Green is hot, lighter with fresh herbs. We actually did level 3, which is the heat level this restaurant starts at, figuring if anyone wants it hotter, they can always add more chili flakes or hot sauce. We nab a squeeze bottle of liquid heat off the shelf, and everyone is happy. Wei mentions that if you make a large quantity of curry, and let it sit overnight, the spices get more blended so it's always better next day. We agree that you can make a big batch and freeze most of it. Wei adds: "Just make sure it is air tight". I provide a cheat sheet about fixing Curry's that don't seem to work out at home. And I give an Instant Pot Sheet to teach you about that too. All of our members get that, no charge. It is a beautiful evening, with wonderful food and great company. By the way, our choice for wine is a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Nicely priced. And you just can't go wrong with a wine from Russian River Valley! I have been coming here for decades and I will say the one thing you can count on is consistency. Their food is consistently tasty, and always surprisingly good when you try something new. A reservation is a must at this restaurant unless you don't mind waiting... my mistake that I should of tried calling to ask (apparently they do take reservations over the phone). My friend and I arrived at 6:30 on a Friday. The wait was a good 30 minutes. The restaurant is very small and tables are close together filled with customers and busy servers. The decor is all tastefully done. We ordered a couple cocktails while looking over the menu. We chose the Bay Puffs, Small Tom Kha, Pad Thai w/Shrimp, Massaman Beef and the Crispy Chicken. Service is fast and the food and drinks arrive fast. The Puffs were good. The soup, pad thai and beef were excellent with the heat we requested. The chicken was the weakest, bland. All in all a very good meal and we would definitely be back. Atmosphere: small, busy, nice decor. Service: very good. Food: very good.

    Star tons with plum sauce
    Marc B.

Started off with the yummy 4-pointed "star ton" app, which were crispy wontons filled with avocado and cream cheese. It was served with plum sauce, which enhanced the flavor. The sauce didn't smell so good, but tasted great. Next we got fried spring rolls, which almost looked like mini-taquitos. They were excellent and the plum sauce also made the taste better. I got the Pad Thai with chicken for my main. Yelpers seemed to love this dish, but I thought it was too sweet. It was still solid though. Cool interior with tons of different style paintings and Thai kitschy stuff.

Busy gem! Small cozy restaurant completely filled with patrons the entire time. We didn't have to wait to be seated. Food came out fast. Recommendations were made based on what we liked and dietary restrictions. We ordered the Bangkok Bay Boat sampler, Basil Chicken stir fry, crab fried rice, & Tiger cry medium rare. The food was all amazing and our server packed our leftovers for us table side. (We rarely see that type of service anymore!) They gave my daughter complimentary ice cream. We'd definitely come back to support again.

Ask the Community - Bangkok Bay

Is there a Thai restaurant near Encinitas that will deliver "Family-Style" Thai food for a party of 10 for a lunch next week?…

I would try calling Bangkok Bay first. I believe you can get delivery. They do not list family style sizes but am sure they could accommodate. If they can't call Similan. Both places are in Solana Beach.

Is there handicap access here? My mom would love to explore but she is limited to sit on her transport chair which is like a wheelchair all of the time.

It is on the ground floor, it is a bit tight in there. But I believe there is a ramp from parking lot to walkway.

After a long work…read moreweek, I pictured myself enjoying a quiet, peaceful dinner where I could decompress and recharge. Instead, I accidentally walked into what felt like the culinary cousin of a nightclub. The music was pumping, the energy was high, and any thoughts of a tranquil retreat disappeared faster than my appetizer. Maybe it's a completely different vibe during the day, but at night, this place is definitely alive. That said, once I adjusted my expectations (and accepted that my meditation session would have to wait), I had a great time. The restaurant is located inside Sky Deck, an indoor food hall with multiple vendors. Finding it felt a bit like a scavenger hunt since the signage wasn't very obvious, but after asking around, I eventually made my way there. I started with the garlic green beans after seeing another reviewer rave about them, and wow- they were not exaggerating. The dish arrived with a tiny umbrella perched on top, which was both adorable and unexpectedly glamorous for a plate of green beans. This appetizer was small but mighty. Every bite was packed with flavor, and if I hadn't already ordered an entrée, I absolutely would have ordered a second round. For my main course, I chose the Pad See Ew with fried tofu at medium spice. Apparently, their definition of "medium" and my definition of "medium" are not close relatives. This dish came with a kick! Halfway through, I found myself wishing I had ordered something sweet to balance things out. Instead, I bravely faced the spice armed only with hot water and a slice of lime. Um, it was a battle. While the portion size wasn't quite as large as what I've seen at similar restaurants, it ended up being exactly the right amount for me that evening. I left satisfied without feeling overly full. The service was wonderful as well. The waitresses were kind, and the hostess checked in during my meal, which made the experience feel welcoming and attentive. Although I didn't get the quiet, zen-like end to my work week that I had envisioned, I ended up enjoying something different: a fun solo date surrounded by great food, upbeat music, and the infectious energy of the crowd. Sometimes the universe gives you a peaceful retreat, and sometimes it gives you spicy noodles and a soundtrack. This time, I got the latter- and I'm not mad about it.

The ambiance was amazing as their decor was not only simply exquisite, but so eye catching and interesting too, and the staff--they were so kind and attentive.
