Okay Starkville you're making up for some of the average food I'd been getting at some of the so called better restaurants in other cities in Mississippi. First Harvey's and now Thai Siam . I decided to visit Thai Siam this evening and boy am I glad I did. I ordered the Crispy Duck Curry with pineapple, carrots and peppers. This also came with white rice and a side salad. This was my first time here and I didn't know what to expect. The servers and food came in quick. The food was pretty good. The fried dumplings were delicious. the tonkotsu ramen was okay, but didn't taste like Japanese ramen that I've had. The pad thai was pretty solid, just too much tamarind tasting for me. Thai Siam is a small, friendly restaurant that offers both a generous Thai menu and sushi bar. Dining solo, I only tried one dish; Pad Kee Mao, or drunk man noodles which I ordered Thai hot. The food came out quickly and throughout the meal, the service was efficient and friendly. As often is the case when visiting a Thai restaurant for the first time, ordering Thai hot tends to get you a fairly bland dish. The staff were happy to bring me some killer deep black chilis that quickly brought the heat up while still preserving a very nice blend of flavors. The food is amazing. The ambiance leaves plenty to be desired, but I'm so happy to have such a quality Thai restaurant in Starkville I can't even deduct a star for that. Wait staff is friendly and when I get it to go it's always ready fast and so good it's hard to wait to get home and eat it. My boyfriend and I just left and he's already digging into the fried dumplings, saying he would make love to these things. The duck curry is *awesome* and my personal fave. I have been driving by every day since school started always wishing it were meal time/I had time to stop and eat. I finally ordered takeout. I did not mind the (longer than expected) wait for my food, because I was enjoying the atmosphere. And as I sat waiting, I watched the servers, who were superbly attentive yet still quite busy, deliver beautiful entrées to customers who were obviously enjoying their dining experience. In an area like Starkville it can be difficult to find an abundance of diversity but Thai Siam (it's see*am) takes the challenge to heart and offers a wide selection of pan-Asian dishes. An issue that many restaurants run into when attempting this sweeping culinary venture is sacrificing distinct regional characteristics. Thai Siam certainly isn't impervious to this but they do a great job at creating depth in their dishes. Make a point to try the Khao Soi next time you go, it is a staple in northern Thailand and Thai Siam makes it near spot-on. read more

I don't know what happened but the last two times I have been here the food was no where near what it was in the past. Their staff seems to have changed as well. I love their pad thai but the last time I had it the bean sprouts were not cooked and they were just thrown on top. The last time I was there I had the red curry and it was okay, nothing I couldn't make at home. My husband had the duck pad thai and and again, raw bean sprouts. Also, his duck was very dry. I try not to grade on a curve just because this is small-town Mississippi, but I love this place and have to give it five stars. The Massaman curry with duck is fantastic, as is the drunken noodle. They have lunch specials that'll run you less than eight bucks for a decently sized portion. The spiciness is pretty mild, so be sure to order it "Thai spicy" if you like some heat.
