I almost never send food back, but had to here. Flavorless and undercooked meat. Too many flies...

Pad Thai with Beef Brisket and Chicken
    Michael R.

I ordered delivery for Thai Singa House, whereI had a positive first experience with an order for delivery. The first time, I had ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Pad See Ew with Chicken. Both entrees were good and 4-star quality. Since I had a positive first experience, I couldn't understand reviews on Yelp and other sites with ratings below a 4-star when I ordered the first time. My second experience, was enlightening. The order was literally inedible. I ordered a double portion of chicken pad thai. They elected to give me fried tofu and chicken. That's incorrect, as well as problematic when you're gluten intolerant and place in the notes "gluten-free". The second dish was beef brisket and chicken. I've been eating brisket, probably since it could be digested in my baby food. I have had it for decades in places across North America and Europe. It was the worst tasting brisket I've ever had- without question. The texture was bad as well, possibly because it wasn't sliced properly- against the grain? Regardless, I was irritated, and extremely disappointed. The service, provided by Grubhub was great. Though the portion size was good, it didn't matter, because both entrees ended up in the garbage disposal. Now, I understand the average rating, and its justification. I'm being empathetic and mindful of my first experience for giving it 2 stars to average out the 4 stars from my first experience. Unfortunately, this will be my last.

THE FOOOD WAS SO AMAZING!!! - ambiance: very small, a little tight, not very modern but definitely kind of like a hole in the wall type restaurant

    Calamari and lychee drink

Currently on a search for the best calamari in Philly and I was walking by and decided to try out Thai Singha House. The calamari had a wonderful breading that didn't leave me feeling heavy. It also came with broccoli and carrot tempura, I always appreciate when a place decided to add other stuff than just a plate of calamari. The sauce it came with was also very good. One of the better calamari dipping sauces I've had! Calamari Rating - 4 I also had a lychee drink that was really good! It's a small little place with nice decorations and fast service!

The food here is good for the cheap price! The portions aren't big, but was enough to satisfy. I came here with a large party, the service was attentive and the chef came out at the end and was very nice. The place is definitely good for BYO since it's pretty cozy. I ordered the drunken noodle (spicy) with beef (3.7/5); it was solid but nothing too special. The texture of the noodles was very good and the beef was very tender. I will say that the dish was decently spicy so if you don't like spice, opt for the pad see ew instead! I love drunken noodles so it hit the spot for sure. I also got the Thai iced tea which was so refreshing and came in a cute jar (4.5/5) -- would recommend. Overall good food for the price, good service. I would definitely come back again.

A great, easy, and fast place for lunch near campus. No frills service but fast and attentive, deck inside is simple but plain, definitely clean. Their lunch specials are affordable and filling. Start with a soup, appetizer, and entree. I had their tom kha soup (coconut soup w/ vegetables), which was delicious, and crab dumplings, which were small and more like shumai than a dumpling. The entree (salmon) was AMAZING, crispy and moist and so flavorful w/ a chili garlic cilantro sauce. Rice was a little dry, but whatever, who eats the rice anyways. Finished w/ a Thai iced tea (2$, 3$ if you want boba). Over all, affordable and delicious. I'll definitely come back.

    Crab Fried Rice ($20)

Ordered the crab fried rice here. All the dishes here are strangely wet, probably from too much oyster sauce. I wasn't a fan of the crab meat; it tasted tough and was probably frozen previously. They did give me a lot of rice, half of which I took home and had for lunch the next day.

As someone who loves Thai food, this wasn't the best Thai food I've ever had, but it did the trick given how hungry I was. I ordered the basil sauce and vegetable spring roll for delivery. The delivery was the 30-45 minute as predicted. Let's start at the spring rolls. The outside was extremely crispy and crunchy and the inside was a lot softer than I'm used to. The juxtaposition of such differing textures wasn't really the best experience for me. The sauce that came with it was also too sweet. The basil sauce didn't really taste like Thai basil sauce. It was a bit too oily and the tangy. The chicken was mediocre and there was one chicken piece that was slightly overcooked, bordering on mushy. Despite all this, it wasn't a TERRIBLE meal, it just didn't taste like Thai food in the way I'm used to it. Overall it was okay, but I think I'll have to keep searching for my go to Thai spot in Philly.

a bottle of wine on a table

So many years ago I used to eat at the location near 40th and Market. I used to love it. There weren't that many places in West that were satisfying and this was one of them. Decided to try their current location with my youngest. I forgot that they were a BYO so when I was reminded upon entering, I left momentarily to retrieve a bottle of wine right down the street at the Acme. Mission accomplished. We were one of a few diners on a Saturday night but it looked as if they were doing a lot of take out orders. We started with the chicken satay and the edamame gyoza. Both were delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy and the gyoza hit the spot. I ordered the tofu and broccoli in peanut sauce and my daughter had the pineapple fried rice. Hers was the winning order. My peanut sauce was a bit sweet and there were no crushed peanuts to top it off. Her pineapple fried rice, however was delicious with huge chunks of pineapple and delicious fried rice with big chunks of red pepper and onion. This was a good choice. It was quiet and provided a nice atmosphere to talk and enjoy our food. It was good to be back.

I've came here a couple more times since my last review and my other experiences have been much better! The service is still pretty average and they're still slow but the food makes up for it. I actually really like how their curry are salty because it makes the rice flavorful after you put it into the curry. The fried chicken wontons are also a staple and a great appetizer. This place is also pretty accommodating to large groups for BYOs but beware that each dish comes out at different times so you may not want to wait for everyone's food to arrive before eating. But overall, a pretty decent place for Thai food.

Chicken pad thai which surprisingly comes with tofu too
    Crystal W.

I decided to order UberEats due to Covid and now the riots so I decided to try this place since I was in the mood for Thai food. I ordered chicken pad thai. The portions are surprisingly generous for $9.95. Surprisingly the chicken pad thai came with tofu which I am a fan of (but if you're a newbie to tofu, you might want to ask for no tofu). However, the chicken was really dry. And overall the dish was lacking in flavor. I should have ordered medium spice to see if the dish could be more flavorful. I probably won't order again since there are many other good Thai places in Philly and surrounding neighborhoods.

We got 3 entrees + 1 side: - pla nung manao (branzino) - tumis pla (fish curry) - gai yang naa por (half chicken) - yum makhua yao (eggplant) My favorite was the tumis pla and I was sad we didn't have leftovers to take home. The eggplant (I'm not always the biggest fan) was delicious - great texture and complexity of flavor. The food is a bit pricey (portions are quite small) but it all tastes delicious. We shared this among 4 adults and I left satisfied.

Walking in around 5:45pm on a Friday evening in June without a reservation, I was able to get a table for 45 minutes within five minutes. Here's my experience. 1) Food: Wow- just wow. Everything is excellent. To feed a hungry stomach, I ordered the Garlicky Cabbage, Yellow Curry Noodle Soup with Chicken, and my server gifted me with the Grilled Saht Koh as a surprise. Everything had textured flavors that are well balanced. The winner for me was the Garlicky Cabbage. Having grown up in a country where cabbage is the staple, these are among the best I've ever had. I'll note that I was warned that the Yellow Curry Noodle Soup was spicy. I love spice but can't handle it. I was unaffected by the soup's spice level. 2) Drinks: The Thai green iced tea was unique, refreshing, and delicious! I almost ordered a second. Like many places in Philly, it's BYOB so there isn't a cocktail, beer, wine menu. 3) Service: It was excellent. So you might stumble across info for the best times to secure a walk-up reservation and they'll tell you to arrive at least by 10:30am Thursday through Saturday as Mawn opens at 11am. But let me tell you how I pulled up in front of Mawn at 10:40am on a Thursday and there was already a line of about 15 people!! Mind you, these people have PEOPLEZ as quite a few were holding spots in line for others in their party who could now casually stroll up to the line since their spot was secured by their people. I'm telling you have a game plan! If I knew then what I know now I probably would have got there at least by 9:30, seriously. My party got waitlisted as soon as we were just one person away from entering the restaurant and we had to wait for another 40 minutes. Fortunately it was a nice day so we just walked around the neighborhood and came back and got in. It's a small quaint place that only seats about 28 people. You'll feel like your visiting your favorite relatives home. You'll glance around at the other guest and feel like WOW i'm one of the few who finally made it into one of the most coveted highly acclaimed restaurants in Philly! Now let me see if it lives up to the hype! haha! I started out with the pear melon salad. It was light and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed the citrus notes and the pear slices. I would have never thought to add the pear but that really complimented the salad well. I was told that a MUST try is the head on soft shell shrimp. At first I wasn't thrilled about the thought of eating the head but said what the heck, lets go for the full experience! If you love softshell crabs you'll love this! There was nothing off putting about it. It simply taste like delicious premium shrimp in a fish caramel sauce with a hint of thai basil and chili. It was wonderful. I could have gone for a second round but I wanted to try other items. I enjoyed the seafood fried rice..this is similar to the crab fried rice but included uni roe and caviar with saracha on the side so you can regulate your heat level. I'll say this, while I enjoyed the seafood fried rice and the bonus elements of it, I was not a fan of the texture of the rice itself. Perhaps it's just my preference. The rice was light, fluffy and slightly sticky in texture whereas I prefer more of a thai fried rice which is dry, slightly firm and non-clumpy texture. But that's not taking any cool points away from Mawn. It's just my preference that i'm mentioning in case anyone else goes in expecting a different texture. I love the team service aspect at Mawn. Our waiter emphasized that we're not bugging anybody if we need anything we can stop any staff person walking by. I love that. Beef Noodle soup is delicous here. So is the yellow curry noodle soup. The fish is really good here too. I didn't realize I could have requested for it to be deboned (probably because I was talking to much lol) But my waiter was kind enough to come over and help me debone it when they saw I was struggling lol This was the first time I ever had a green thai tea! It was really a treat. Not overly sweet. Nothing but pure deliciousness here! And a super helpful warm friendly staff.
