I've heard so many positive reviews of circles & drive by it often, but I'm only just now getting a chance to try it. The place itself had decent parking out front, I was seated immediately & provided water while waiting for the rest of my party. It was pretty cozy inside. It always sounded odd when people spoke of how amazing their cheesesteak eggrolls are, yes they're a staple Philly food item but still a little odd for a Thai place. I get it now. The cheesesteak spring roll is superior to any cheesesteak roll I've ever had. The spring roll wrapper just makes it so much lighter & crispier & than the inside? Perfection, even when it's scorching your mouth. The chicken puffs were also delicious, especially in the sauce. Someone at our table may or may not have been drinking the green curry like it was soup & we couldn't blame them, it was that good. Highly recommend the pad Thai with shrimp. Circles Thai is an unassuming restaurant located on the outskirts of Northern Liberties. It's a small restaurant with 10 tables. The ambiance and vibes are impeccable, especially when you consider the price of their food. It's perfectly dim and well decorated with flowers on the table and lining the walls of the beaches. It's one of the most classy casual Thai restaurants I've been to. Our server was also incredibly nice and attentive! Now for the food: We got the fried Thai rolls to share. They were so fresh, super hot, and incredibly stuffed with a perfect blend of meat, noodles, and vegetables. It had a perfectly crispy exterior and savory, soft, umami filling. We weren't sure what exactly the wrapper was. It was similar to rice paper wrapper as it had a unique texture; it still managed to have a chew to it which was awesome. The savory roll paired well with the sweet plum sauce. For my entree, I got the tofu pad Thai with a "hot" spice level. The tofu is deep fried so it was still crispy and there was a TON of it too! It had the perfect amount of vegetables and the noodles were perfectly cooked. This pad Thai is not sweet at all like some variations may be! It's spicy and has a nice deep flavor. I handle spice pretty well so I wouldn't say the "hot" is too spicy. It's a little less spicier than the Buldak noodles to me. The portions are super generous, I had leftovers! Majority of the people were actually dining alone. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. We picked spice level 3 for all dishes and she let us know she could always bring out extra spice if we want it hotter. We ordered the papaya salad, chicken pad Thai and tofu green curry to share. Everything was delicious! Papaya salad was nice and refreshing. Pretty presentation and a nice palette cleanser. The pad Thai was tasty, but was not the best I ever had. sadly, they lost my business first I was a little upset that they went from the square bigger bowls to the small circle bowls it does not hold the same amount of rice. I tried it on my own because I have some of the same bowls because I always order the same stuff. Then when I called to order about two weeks ago, it went from 24 plus tax to $36 plus tax. I did asked the girl why did it go up? She said because the stuff is used to make it went up, which is weird to me so I said did it go back to the bigger bowls she said no they're the same size they were the last time you were here. What a nice surprise! The girlfriend & I had tix to a show at the Foundry, and the places we wanted to eat were all completely full with super long waits. One of my favorite restaurants in my hometown has a pineapple curry that I absolutely love, so I had to get the pineapple curry at Circles to compare. They're nearly indistinguishable! I can't believe I've never written a review about this establishment since it has been my go to take out location for years. I've had 2 dine in experiences and countless delivery orders. Each time that I've patronized this location parking was always a headache but that's not a surprise if you're familiar with the area. The restaurant is very warm and cozy inside. Each time I've dined in, I dined by the entrance and was warmly greeted and accommodated by the staff. There was some wait in getting our meals due to the high volume of orders they receive. The food though is consistent, delicious, and satisfying. My go to is the Pad See Ew with shrimp but I've had the Panang Curry, and Snapper in the past. I love spice so I get medium spicy and every now and then very spicy (which is not for the faint of heart). While to me this is the best Thai food in Philly, the portion of shrimp provided per dish is very small (5-6 shrimp). I hate to sound pretentious but having visited Thailand and having some of the best Thai food of my life I always refused to try this Thai restaurant that had been closed down a couple times for health violations. This was honestly a disgrace to the pad see ew! For the price I basically got sautéed vegetables with over cooked beef Red curry - this had way too much coconut milk and not enough curry paste. The portions were large and the food was delicious. The tofu in the drunken noodles were fried and chopped in large half chunks just the way I like them. It seemed like the noodles was missing something though. There is usually some sweetness in drunken noodles that I did not taste in Circles' version. My husband had the chicken pad thai which he thought was just all right. Finally, we both enjoyed the papaya salad. It had just the right balance of sweet, salty and acidity. The Calamari salad had a delicious salad dressing that was tossed in a chili vinaigrette. Important note : Get the dressing on the side if ordering take out or pick up as this was bathed in salad dressing and I had to throw out alot of the salad due to the salad basically becoming a soup. I believe there was some tentacles in the salad which I love but mainly grilled calamari rings. Seared Margaret Duck Breast Salad - Very good. Again, get the salad dressing on the side or you will be sorry. The duck breast was great and the dressing again was sweet chili vinaigrette with cashews (interesting side note you can request how spicy you want your salad to be!) Mixed Vegetable Stir Fry- You can add chicken, pork, or tofu for as little as $2.00. I ordered this with medium spice selected, wow! This "medium" spice was very intense. You can go up to hot level spice or the most extreme Thai Hot, the medium spice was no normal medium however and I would go with mild next time as I think authentic Thai restaurants take there level of spice pretty darn seriously. I always liked Thai food. I never realized just how good it can be until I had dinner here at Circles! Wow, this was good. The service was just right. Not too hovering and not too unresponsive. They hit the Goldilocks zone there. The atmosphere was nice. My only complaint is the entrance way. The door opens directly into the single room dining area so I felt a chill whenever someone opened the door. I guess it matters how far you are from the entrance. I highly recommend this place.
