Located in the most run down, hole in the wall strip malls in Richmond - I would have never guessed when walking in that this would become one of my favorite restaurants... Very reasonably priced, very large servings (with plenty to take home), and "perfectly spicy" you literally rate on a scale of 1-5 how spicy you would like your dish... I have to recommend the Pineapple Tangerine Chicken, 3 "stars", and an egg roll... Also - be sure to try the banana dessert thing - it's delicious! read more

Terrific Thai food within easy driving distance of Berea. The owner is fast and friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. Pad kee mow is a favorite, with tofu. The spice is adequate, more than some 'thai' restaurants in the area, but could be better. A delicious meal well worth the visit. read more

Don't let the strip mall it's in fool you! This place is a hidden gem. You can choose your desired level of spiciness on most entrées. They also have some neat teas and dessert drinks to try. Always delicious. I haven't been disappointed yet. read more

Just went to this restaurant, when I walked in to be seated, the gentleman says, "have you been here before?" I said, "yes." He handed me 1 menu for a party if 2 and walked off. I love the food at Thai Smile. They give you a large amount for the price, and it is always fresh. I only have a problem with their hours. They aren't open at all on Sundays. And they say they're open until 8:30pm on weekdays, but if you go in, they will tell you they stop taking orders at 8:00. I went in at 8:15 once and they turned me away. It isn't a great business practice, but it's not going to keep me from coming back in the future. read more

Very good Thai food. Traveling through KY we ended up in Richmond for the night. There are not a lot of dining options that are not chain restaurants here but we found this Thai restaurant listed online. It was very good. The food was perfectly seasoned (1 to 5 stars for spice). I had my food seasoned at 3 stars & it was just right; a little kick without eye watering. The flavors of the curry were wonderful. I've had curries that have been cloying & greasy - this one reminded me of the Thai curry I had in Thailand - very authentic. The chicken was not leftover scraps but perfectly cooked & tender white meat. My husband had a seafood dish that was also very good with generous amounts of shrimp, crab & fish. It's a small place, cozy & clean. The service is fast & very friendly; the owner worked the dining room, talking to customers making sure everything was fine. I love Thai Smile! I eat there for lunch when I get the chance. Every staff member is super friendly; they remember your face after you've been there a couple of times. The food always comes out fresh and fast. It's cozy and the dozens of times I've been there I've maybe waited a max 10 minutes for my food and I would wait 30 for it. I highly reccomend the Bangkok Combo, Pepper Steak or the Garlic Chicken. And you have to order the sleeping banans for dessert. Definitely a great place to eat. read more

Last thing I expected to find was authentic Thai food in Richmond. The fellow who owns this place is one heck of a restaurateur. He's on top of everything! Always interacting with customers but never overdoing it. I've been there three times, tried a different dish each time and each time had an excellent meal and dining experience. Can highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Pad Kee Mow. For those who like a more traditional chicken dish, the three flavor chicken is right up your alley. Umm, I don't like Thai food, spicy and sweet mixed, not a fan at all.

Decided to give this place a try because we love Thai food. Got a stir fry that turned out looking like a soup! Half of the container was filled with liquid. Have to admit they are super quick and do give a lot of rice, but there was absolutely no flavor to our dish and the spring rolls were stuffed with some kind of mush that I was not familiar with. They have sit down restaurant prices which is ridiculous for the quality and the fact that it's carry out! Would not recommend and will not be back. read more

Bottom Line; This is Richmond, KY, home of exceptionally bad Asian food. I'm giving it 4 stars because having a restaurant like Thai Smile to go to is a real blessing. The neighborhood Thai Smile is in has a mixed-bag of reasons to be there. Even the strip center it's in has a multiple-personality (the computer repair place does a good job and the Mexican grocery/restaurant is great too). The restaurant itself is small and has the general look and feel of every owner -operated Thai restaurant you've been to in other cities; smiles and greetings, pictures of the king, elephants, a genuine happiness to see you and their almost instant knowledge of whether you've been there before. It's not as cheap as we thought it would be ( Dinner entrees run from $10 for a veggie stir fry, to $17 for a few of the seafood entrees), but that's a good thing for them to have been able to do for themselves. Because this area has neither a large Thai community or diners well versed in Thai cuisine, their menu features more Chinese-style stir fry dishes than anything else. There is green and red curry to have in various forms. There is Thai heat to be had, and that's a very good thing. But things you might have learned to love on menus found in Thai restaurants in larger cities simply won't be here - they have no audience and hence no reason to stock for and then just have waste away in the walk in. But what there IS to eat is fresh, tastes good, and is served with genuine graciousness. These are fine things, and well-worthy of supporting in this otherwise Asian food wasteland. One warning, if it says "Crab" it's actually "Krab". We obviously weren't into our "Krab" Fried Rice ($12.95) and they happily made us a shrimp version we liked a lot better. Kob Kun Mak read more

The quality has really declined in recent years, and the atmosphere in the restaurant isn't as lively as it used to be. For the price it should offer higher quality food and service. I think people who still really like their food have never had authentic Thai before. It's basically turned into the McDonald's of Thai food at this point, only more expensive. I had been looking forward to ending my 9-hour drive with some well-reviewed Thai food. Describing what I ate as mediocre would be generous. I ordered the chicken Pad See Ew...so disappointing. The noodles were chewy, the chicken was incredibly dry--lacked flavor across the board. Maybe I would've had better luck with the chicken pad Thai. But overall, not worth the money. read more

Short and sweet - This place rocks. Probably my favorite place to eat in Richmond. The service is very friendly and very efficient. The lunch meal comes with a delicious soup and it is to die for. Firstoff, the food tasted good, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable. However, for those of us who are looking for more authentic Thai food, I'd say skip Thai Smile. I ordered Pad Thai (perhaps the simplest of all Thai dishes and a staple of any Thai restaurant). The dish came out much too fast to have been freshly made. It contained no fresh vegetables but was simply a pile of noodles smothered in an over-salted peanut sauce. The tofu was dried out and shrivled and was obviously not prepared fresh. Upon a quick review of what others ordered, I had made up my mind. All other dishes were far too high in grease and too low in freshness. Additionally, many essential Thai staple dishes were alltogether missing from the menu. I suspect this is because of the difficulty in finding authentic asian ingredients in a place as un-asian as Kentucky. All in all, if you are used to fast food and Chinese buffets Thai Smile is great. If you are used to more authentic Thai food however, you will be disappointed. read more
