We were served quickly and submitted our order. The salad rolls came first followed by my soup then my daughter's bún dish. Soup was good. Bún dish was good. But we were totally disappointed with the salad rolls we ordered. We were there for dinner, the wrap for the salad rolls had gone dry and hard. The vermicelli noodles inside were still soft. This made think how long these have been sitting out for before they served it to us, especially concerning because it contained shrimp. When I brought it to the attention of the waitress, she swore it was just made. I asked for a replacement but was denied. Chances of us returning here are very slim because of this. Visited this restaurant on various occasions and most times they were okay. Honestly, I only go for convenience after having a dental check up. I ordered the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio. The rice noodle is now chopped apart, so at first it looks like a very full bowl of food, but it's not. Most of the bowl is filled with vegetables. The flavours are fine, but taste very regular; like any other typical Vietnamese restaurant. Pricing was fair, my bowl was around $10. Now what I hated about this place, especially for this specific visit, was the atmosphere. Yes, these restaurants can often have random moments of people being loud, but this occasion was horrible. One of the staff basically tossed plates, bowls, and utensils into the cart. Everything was so loud. Maybe she was having a bad day but it's hard to eat when there's loud clanging every time a patron has their table cleaned. I don't recommend this place as a go-to spot. Came here for a late dinner. There were still quite a few tables around us. I wasn't really feeling like pho so I opted for a vermicelli bowl. I had the shredded pork and grilled chicken vermicelli bowl. I wasn't really sure what shredded pork was, but when it came it almost looked like vermicelli, but a more brown colour. I think it was actually shredded pork skin. The chicken was super tender and flavourful. The bowl was pretty filling and had plenty of toppings to go with it. My only complaint was that I didn't know it came with raw bean sprouts and I would have liked them to be cooked. But now I know for next time. read more

Pho Tuesday is now a thing for my family because of Thai Son. Come by for some pho, big or small with a good selection of topping combinations. My standard is the small #2, a decently sized bowl with my favourite raw beef slices. The broth is decent, and I find it very filling. Sometimes I drink it all, depending on how strong it is that day. Spring rolls are alright. Crispy, dry, and a bit out of my budget to justify eating it with just myself. Okay so usually this place is good....but today I received the most rude service since I use to frequently come here for lunch! Today I decided to get to go Pho! (But didn't phone in to make my order because I didn't think to look up their menu)...anyhoo...I apologized that I didn't have the takeout menu...and asked if I could look at the menu...shes like sure... Then when I paid and got my change she was like "next time phone in with your order" OK...WELLL SORRRRY!! You don't have a paper to-go menu...so how am I supposed to order?!? Came here for some Vietnamese dinner goodness, after noticing that this place has replaced the Church's Chicken. Parking is available in the strip mall parking lot, as well as on Victoria outside. The interior is mostly brand new, but you can still tell that the place used to be a fried chicken joint. The chicken-themed bathroom signs come to mind. Service is half-decent, but nothing special. Not sure about the hygiene at this location - one of the staff members would serve us while he was mopping the floor. Not sure if he washed his hands each time, but I'm suspecting he didn't. Of course, one could argue that this place is authentic Vietnamese as a result. (I've been there) Spring rolls - surprisingly mediocre. The filling was okay, but the outside looked like something you'd get out of a dim sum restaurant. Even with the fish sauce they tasted pretty bland. Hot and sour soup - quite decent. Nice large chunks of vegetables, and that trademark tang. Carmelized fish - pretty salty, but this is the way they roll. The fish has a lot of bones, so don't eat too quickly. Even though I thought the dish was okay, my friends described the meat as "sandy". Something to keep in mind. Strangely enough, and maybe it's just in my head, but this location simply isn't as good as the original (E.12th) Marine Drive, or Richmond locations. read more

THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY. Decided to have some Vietnamese food a couple of nights ago. When seated, you're given a teapot and some cups that you fill yourself, and a menu. The items are average priced in my opinion and on Tuesdays, there is a 10% discount. For example, my friend ordered a large pho which is $8.50 + tax and I ordered a Vermicelli bowl with shredded pork, grilled pork, and a spring roll which is $9.25 + tax. The food arrived quite quickly. The pho came first and my Vermicelli came shortly after. As with most places, the pho comes with a plate of bean sprouts, lime, one or two pieces of pepper, and some leaves. I liked my vermicelli bowl. It had small pieces of peanuts, some leaves, lettuce, one deep fried spring roll, shredded pork, grilled pork, some pickled vegetables, and some fried onions. My friend didn't like her pho. She said something was off about the soup. She also mentioned that it had MSG in it, which isn't too uncommon. The service is alright. The waitresses are attentive, but don't smile a lot which may or may not matter to you. When you pay, you pay at the front and you aren't given any mints or candies (sadly). After we paid we took a seat and waited for our food. Then they gave us take-out pho in plastic containers in a paper bag. We were kinda surprised but we still started to eat with plastic containers Then the lady found we were dine in. She asked us aren't you take out? I said we wanted to dine in. She suddenly became very rude and asked harshly: do you have your vax passports??? And she blamed me not taking a seat first & paid the order first. When we headed home I realized that they didn't gave us receipt and maybe that's why it's a CASH ONLY restaurant. Thai son is a no frills, typical quick vietnamese family style restaurant. Don't expect great 'service' that you usually get from westernized restaurants. Hwy, at least they serve free pot of tea! Coming from Singapore I've been missing southeast Asian food, especially the egg noodles. For the first time I tried thai son's pork dried egg noodle and it was pretty close to what I've missed! Pho portions are huge too, and though broth is not as strong as other places I've been to, it definitely has less MSG in it which I like! Food is served quick under 10-15min wait so it's great to visit even when you're famished! I wouldn't call them dirt cheap considering that it only costs $2 in Vietnam itself while it's $9-10 each here! But sure, it's less pricey! read more

I've been 4 times pretty much since it opened a couple of months ago. I keep going back because of their delicious broth and noodles (not soggy). The grand opening discount of 15% off was attractive too. The place is clean because it's still new. It kind of ends there, hence, the 2 stars. Although new, I find it rather crowded, it was really hard when you have a table more than 6 people. The worst part was the customer service is a complete turn-off. I went 4 times, all 4 times I asked for water from this petite Vietnamese lady (with a pony tail and heavy make-up). All 4 times she would say OK then took off to do something else, we asked again, AND again, then she would finally get us water. I had a strong feeling she was deliberately ignoring us as I caught her taking peeks at us after we asked for water, we stared at her, she would look away quickly - not letting us make eye contact or request for anything. I literally had to hunt her down in order to get anything. I'm so annoyed! If she could be that consistently rude every single time I went, I can't imagine what she does to my food before bringing them to me! I get this strong vibe she hates her job. This place tastes good, but there are way more good pho places in lower mainland with better service, I don't need to go there to get pissed off just for some noodles. End of story. Not going back. Stopped in to try the rare beef pho. The broth was quite tasteless. I tried everything to bring up the flavor, adding hoisin and chili sauce, though it had literally no saltiness or sweetness that a basic beef broth would have. It was as if I had a bowl of noodles, beef and water. I got only half through and gave up. It was a waste of space in my stomach. I commented before paying about the lack of flavor only to have the woman at the counter give a dismissive laugh and have her comment that they sell a lot of it. Downhill bigtime. I've been eating here for over 7 years and this pho place has been my go to place but not anymore after my last couple of visits. Basically the chef is different and the food reflects it Tomato beef stew noodle: Use to have tender beef shank pieces and the soup brooth was not that oily. In my last visit they switched to beef brisket which I had to throw away half of it because it couldn't even be chewed. The broth also came with 1cm of oil from the rendered beef brisket fat Lemon grass chicken rice: This should be fail proof but man the chicken thighs were dry and laced with burnt crummies. 5 stars!! Been waiting for this place to open for a while now but seems there was some delays with the city. Was super busy when i dropped by for my first visit. Was greeted by very friendly staff. Ordered shredded pork & chicken on vermicelli with assorted vegetables and side of spring rolls. Excellent value. An interesting twist on mixed vegetables was there was some cilantro and basil mixed in. For the side order of spring rolls u get 3 good sized meaty rolls for $5.75. Really really good spring rolls. I've been to this place for takeout many times and they normally don't disappoint. All I ask is they get my order right. I called over the phone, clear simple order of 3 combos. When I got there, all my items were wrong. The cashier tried to convince me that what was in the bag was better and that's what she heard me say over the phone. Two of the incorrect items were pricier than what I originally wanted. They corrected my items but in the process of me explaining versus their stubbornness, I lost out. I paid before realizing their mistake and was already too frustrated and turned off to argue over a few bucks. Let it be the tip they didn't deserve. At least the food was good to make up for the lousy service but honest to god, the customer is always right! They had no right to edit/upsell my order and then convince me to take it. Thai Son has always been one of the most consistent Vietnamese restaurants I enjoy going to. The only down side before was that each location had been so darn far away, but those worries are no longer an issue! With a location opening up on Victoria now, it provides a pho place needed in that area. I would've liked it if it was open later or maybe 24/7 but then again that's just me. I ordered the grilled short ribs with steamed vermicelli. Which is not pho (duh) but a favourite nonetheless! Afterwards I did finish off my friend's small pho which the beef flank was a tad tough for my liking...then again they did just open so maybe they are still working out the kinks. It is nice to see that they have most of their regular staff from the original Broadway location here, so at least the transition for regulars is seamless. Also just wanted to mention that they currently have a grand opening promotion of 15% off for the time being, so get on that! read more

Noodles were overcooked and thin and there were a few slices. The rations were for sure mis matched but this was to make up for the fact that they're dirt cheap which worked out in the end for my situation. I wasn't looking for something to get filled as I had dinner at home. I just needed something during rush hour to take care of the hangry from point A to B. But with the opening of their new Victoria store I found it fitting to both my criterion. I ordered the #46 which was the lemongrass chicken and grilled pork on rice with an egg. Prices were reasonable (plus a 15% discount from them opening just recently) it definitely was well worth it. The food portions were good and taste as well. Even the Sriracha sauce seemed spicier than usual. LOL. All in all I'll come back again to try their soup noodles. I always order the same dish and it's always delicious. Cash only, which is the only downside in my opinion. This one happens to be right beside a pokestop so collect those poke balls while you eat! The staff here is just as great at the Richmond location. The superstar waitress will speak Chinese / Vietnamese to please whichever customers come in. Impressive, considering she handles the English speaking ones too. I've eaten here more than twice since this location opened. They are relatively pretty clean and quick when serving you. I was amazed at the rainbow drink with coconut milk here last time I ate here cause I wasn't expecting more than 3 different beans. I love their Pho. When our food was coming, nobody tried to bring it to us. When I let them know, the staff were annoyed me and very rude to me. I love their Richmond branch, they were all nice and respectful. But Victoria Drive and Broadway one were both of horrible. Somebody wrote about them in Yelp before, I agree with her, they are rasist. They look down at oriental people except who speaks same language with them. In addition, their cutlaries and bathroom were so Dirty. Absolutely NO to this restaurant.
