Return visit, same strange wango tango taste with the chicken (like it had been reheated, left over) and some dumplings that we literally, threw out after only eating one (we got take out, vs. eating at the restaurant.) I really would love to give it a solid 3.5 stars. We come here on occasion because it's very close to our house. The food has always been great. Lots of fresh veggies and the curry is always on point. We love the BYOB, so it's great to grab a bottle of wine and head out to this place. It's small, so seating can be a premium! The only downfall is the smell sometimes (not all the time) from the Nail Salon next door and sometimes the water tastes really bad. They really need to clean out the water lines to get that bad taste out. (and burning down that nail salon next door would help too). Anyways.. we dig this neighborhood joint and do love coming here. I know what good Thai food taste like and what we ordered tonight was not anywhere near good. So far, worst one out of the 4 Thai restaurants I have tried in the DFW area. Have yet to find a delicious Thai restaurant in DFW comparable to those in Michigan. Appetizer was Fish Cake. Tasted like store bought fish balls from an Asian store, pressed flat & deep fried. Their dipping sauce was very good because of the sweet chili sauce; they had used a very tasty Thai brand so the sauce tasted good. I'm not big on sweet dipping sauce, but this one particular brand cannot be passed up. Chicken red curry - not enough curry flavor, not enough coconut flavor, cheap vegetable mixture. When you imagine authentic Thai red curry and for the price, you would expect at least some bamboo and/or Thai eggplant. The whole dish is not an ideal red curry plate nor does it taste like one. Lacks a lot for a red curry dish. First thing I would notice is the aroma of the red curry spice mixture, but this one had none. Tofu Pad Thai - they didn't have beef & pork. Chicken always comes out dry so I went with tofu. Tofu was good. Pad Thai is ok but not good. You can taste the tartness & sweet flavor of the sauce but it was lacking something! The noodle looks real good, smells good, just didn't taste good as it looked. Needed some more bean sprouts and green onions for that fresh taste too, not cabbage. Pad See Ew - needs more golden mountain. lol It was okay, but still not good. The flavor was mildly there. Noodle texture was spot on though. Overall - 2 star. Service was good. Noodle texture was great. Freshly cut lime wedges were provided. My opinion: I don't think the cook knows what authentic Thai food taste like. We had chosen typical popular dishes, yet it left room wanting for more. The food lacks Thai flavor. This is a FANTASTIC weekday lunch spot if you work nearby, but get here early or you may have to wait for a table. It's small but the food and service are great. They have a great lunch menu where you get a soup or salad, a small eggroll, plus your entre. Their tom kha soup is my fave in Dallas and I have spent a year trying to replicate it at home. How do you make it so good, Thai Soon??? I have had the spinach noodles here as well as almost every type of curry. The lunch portions are huge. As some have said, the spiciness can vary depending on which day you go/who is cooking. I always ask for a 5 and it has varied from "so hot I can't eat it in one sitting" to "meh." I had my first Thai food at this small restaurant. The inside is cute (in my opinion) and the place gave off a feeling like I'm eating at home. It took a while to find this place..my gps told me I arrived at a different spot. I ordered pad Thai. It was good, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. I'm not a huge fan of sweets..sweet food so it was kind of difficult to eat it all. There basil fried rice was good, but a little to saucy (soy sauce?) for me. Their Tom Yum soup was interesting. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day and would not have really posted a review if I had not spotted the yelp sticker in the window. The place was packed for lunch but we were there a little before noon just in time for a 4 top to be cleaned off for us. The first thing I noticed was the smell of a nearby nail shop. My nose is really sensitive to acetone and that is all I could smell the entire time. I ordered Thai tea, was brought Iced Tea instead. We waited a while and finally spring rolls were brought out, clearly they were burnt but still tasted ok. Coconut soup was delicious and had just the right amount of heat to it. I had the Minced Chicken with Thai Basil. I love Thai Basil but this dish was pretty skimpy on the herb. Won't try this dish again since I almost choked to death on a tiny piece of what is more like chicken sent through a meat grinder. Not a pleasing texture at all. The flavor was decent overall but I found the rice to be a little undercooked. I don't know if I will go back due to the odor coming from the nail shop but I wish I had tried something other than minced chicken. Maybe do a to-go order next time, if there is one considering the distance from my job. Not sure if it would be worth it. read more

My boyfriend and I adore this restaurant, a bit small but very cozy, staff is always nice and they recognize us now since we frequent this restaurant so often. I really recommend the Pad Se Ewe very flavorful and always delicious. It's a little far from us, and we even have a Thai restaurant closer to home but we always make the trip over to Thaisoon for their amazing food and great service! read more

Been here five times now. Half were mediocre to bad. The first time my order was way too spicy when I asked for it not to be (Panang Curry). The second time was pretty good (Pad Thai). The third time was pretty bad (Panang Curry again), spicy once again, but not as bad. Flavor seemed a bit off compared to all the other places I've ordered the same thing. The fourth time was bad (Pad Thai), didn't taste the same at all as the first time, mostly egg flavored. Seems to be hit-and-miss at this point. Quite little hole in the wall Thai place. The service is always quick. They do a lot of takeout due to the small size of the dining area. I'd recommend that you get it to go if you live close. The food is always delicious. They know their spicy levels and are pretty consistent each time with the heat. Tried Thai Soon because my regular Thai place is closed on Monday. It is a small space, but for take away, the ambience didnt matter. You get a LOT of food for the money - plenty to last 2-3 days. Started with chicken satay - a little tough, but well seasoned and excellent peanut sauce, and spicy cucumber salad. Pad See Ew was perfect - chicken much more tender, and it also had grilled zucchini along with the broccoli, which I've never seen in this dish. This place is pretty good for Thai food. I would say, better than most in the DFW area...BUT, the service is really really slow. The first time i went here, i was about 1/2 an hour late coming back to work. Due to that experience, i dont have fond memories here...also, it is a small store, so coming with a big group is not a good idea. They have a lot of vegetarian items to choose from and they also have good Thai tea. I dont remember what soup they gave me as an appetizer, but it wasnt very good. This place is a local standard. If you like Thai food, try it, and if you're like me it will become a habit. The canonical Chicken Pad Thai is always good. There are also a variety of curries with noodles which are very good. My family loves the Corn Patties appetizer as well as the steamed dumpling app. All the dishes come with your choice of Tofu, Chicken, Shrimp or Seafood. I wish they had pork, but they don't. The service is sometimes rough. It seems that the lunch-time staff is bit more practiced(they're frequently full at lunch time), but the dinner staff can seem confused at times. Take-out orders are not uncommon. There is often a steady stream of people picking up dinner for eating at home in the evening. I know I do!! BYOB!!! read more

This place used to be our go to spot. On out last two recent visits service has been terrible. Firstly,don't' go at night if you plan on seeing your food. Almost all the light were out and it was very dark. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks ordered. On our last trip the lights had still not been replaced, I'm pescetarian , and though I clearly ordered shrimp my dish came with chicken. Her dish was also not made to order either. I sent my plate back once and she had to send hers back twice. The appetizer we ordered was sent to our table nearly 15 minutes after we finished our meal. I explained that the appetizer is meant to be before a meal not afterwards, I don't think the server understood the concept. We are moving out of state soon and wanted to enjoy our last visit but clearly that's not possible. If service does not dramatically improve this place will be gone soon. two other tables near us were complaining about the poor service as well. If we ever come back to town I'm pretty sure this place won't be on our list of places to visit. read more

A fellow Yelp-er and I tried this restaurant for lunch because we saw great reviews and wanted to see if it is, indeed, as good as they say. The restaurant is in a small strip, a few doors down from Starbucks. The place was quaint and neatly decorated, and the atmosphere was very friendly. We asked for water and they brought out an extra pitcher for when we need to refill. With lunch a small egg roll/spring roll came out, along with your choice of soup or salad. We ordered the Fried Calamari as an appetizer and Pad Thai Chicken as our meal. The Fried Calamari was lightly fried and tasted good. The Pad Thai had a great taste and has definitely made it to my top favorites (my all-time favorite being from Noodle Wave). Been coming here on and off for 3 years, never a dull meal. Every portion is always big and filling. Lunch gets you and eggroll along with a soup or salad, the entrée fills the whole box! Thai-Soon may be small but it has a powerful pull on lots of fans who keep coming back for more. I'm not usually a noodles fan, but I covet their Pad Thai almost as much as I do healthy dark chocolate. THAT's an endorsement! Served with delicious peanut sauce, their fresh spring rolls with crispy tofu is the best. Whatever the special is-- crispy shrimp and chicken with sticky rice or salmon with asparagus and basil, it matters not...the food will be delicious. No soggy tofu here, just crispy! We often split an entree just so we can have green tea ice cream for dessert. The price is right, the people are friendly, the service is good and you can BYOB! 4 stars for food, 1 star for service. I suggest only ordering to-go. In fact it seems as though everyone knows to do this already! During the entire hour and a half it took to order, get our food, and finish there were at least 20 people who came in for to-go. This is a true sign of how delicious their food is. It's so good that regardless of their incredibly bad and slow service people still come back and eat it at home. I STRONGLY suggest you order their egg rolls... or were they spring rolls? I can't remember which. They have the option of 3 big ones or 6 small ones (I order the small ones) and they are the ones that come with the cucumber sauce (which BTW is absolutely delicious). I didn't quite understand what it was from reading other reviews, but it's very similar to a sauce you'd normally dip your egg or spring rolls in except it has tiny bits of cucumber in it that add a freshness. I always order Padd Thai at Thai restaurants. Their pad thai is not the best I've had, not even close really... so if you've had some amazingly delicious padd thai I wouldn't recommend theirs. They make the American version which is much much darker in color almost a red and is kinda greasy. It's not terrible but it's not the best. Padd Thai should be very pale in color, almost yellow and definitely not greasy at all. Fresh tasting instead. I would suggest you order their Pad See Eaw though. THAT is some seriously good stuff. I ask for it a little spicy and it is... mmmmmm... sooooo good. That's their food. Yum. Their actual service though.... awful. Absolutely awful. Very crowded inside and it sometimes smells of nail polish. We sat down and didn't get our drink order taken for at least 15 minutes. Once that was taken we didn't see our spring/egg rolls for another 15, then our glasses were never refilled until our food came out which took even longer. After we finished eating it took them ANOTHER 15 minutes to get our check to us and then even more time to swipe our card. The theme of the night was... if you need something done expect it to take 10-15 minutes. Whether it be that they forgot to bring out the cucumber sauce with the spring/egg rolls or to refill your water. It was very miserable. HOWEVER. The food made up for it. Had the food been bad we would have just left more than likely. Another weird thing that is kind of a pet peeve of mine is they bring out the food separately instead of all at once. So my husband's was cooked first and he got his food and it was another 10 minutes until I actually got my food. I really don't like that. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant in Dallas for many years! I've tried several other Thai restaurants around Dallas, but always still have my taste buds set on Thai Soon. Why? Portions are plenty, food is full of flavor, prices are a great value, staff are friendly, location is tucked in the Dal-Rich Shopping Village, but the atmosphere is quaint /cozy/relaxed, PLUS can also bring your own bottle of wine with no corkage fee. I like my Thai food to be flavorful, and not so Americanized like other Thai places (Royal Thai). We usually get the Tom Kha Soup, Corn Patties, Curry, Pad See Ew, the chicken potato curry, Thai Tea, among other things. We've never been disappointed!! read more

There aren't many places that I want to review thrice over but Thai Soon is one of the places. One another visit two years from my very first bite, I'm still just as hooked. EVERYTHING on the menu has proven to be flavorful but I stand by small house salad with fried tofu and pad thai.
