Although it is not the authentic thai food you would get at a hole in the wall thai restaurant in a larger city, there is something special about the food at Thai Thai. I wouldn't call it americanized, but it has a very pleasant taste even to all of my coworkers and friends who typically only enjoy Chili's and McCallisters type food. I am a regular there and go at least twice a week. I have tried everything on the menu (besides shrimp and snow pea; sounds too chinese), and while I wouldn't necessarily rate every dish 5 stars, overall they would easily average 5. The beef and pork noodle soup alone would be reason enough to make this restaurant a favorite. I highly recommend at least trying this restaurant, but don't expect an hole in the wall authentic experience! read more

I'm sad to give this place two stars because the food is really good, but they have a ridiculous bottleneck at the order/pay counter. The proprietor checks everyone out himself. He is obviously in brain overload, and in harried and usually cranky fashion takes forever to process orders using his ipad/card reader system. This results in what can be very long wait times--I mean 20+ minutes without a crowd. They have a drive-thru which is supposed to be operational, but he refuses to answer the telephone when busy. The kitchen folks are quick, food comes out fast once one manages to get it ordered and pay for it, but 1/2 to 3/4 of the tables are often empty as customers have already eaten and left before others can get their order in. It's also common for people to go, peek in at a long line, then go somewhere else. This is so foolish. My advice to the man is to get some help! If he would streamline his order/pay operation and operate the phone-in/drive thru properly his business would easily double. He, himself is the only problem. read more

Had pad thai for lunch. Not bad, but a small portion for $8.50 with no sides or drink. If you are an occidental you can forget getting anything approaching friendly service here. the people who gave this place a great review probably never ate at other Thai restaurants before. the restaurant looks fancy from the outside, but was really shabby from the inside. the only good thing about this restaurant was I didn't have to leave a tip. food was not Thai style at all, more like Chinese. my tom yum soap was really salty, and the portion was fairly small considering the price. I believe that each person has their favorite restaurant it comes to thai food here in Lubbock. I like them all for different reasons but Thai Thai is the place I frequent. It's the most consistent and is always delicious. When I get a craving for a certain dish, it never disappoints. The Gang Ga Ree is my favorite especially when it's cold or rainy out. The Thai Thai's are extremely good, and if you go in the fall, the pumpkin custard is freakishly good. It's custard baked into a tiny pumpkin, and you eat the entire thing, skin and all. By far my favorite dessert anywhere. As for the owner, I don't care if somebody doesn't strike up a conversation and treat me with fake pleasantries, the food is fantastic and that's why I go to a restaurant, to eat. He takes his food seriously which is why he doesn't like a lot of alterations to dishes. Just eat it the way it's served, that's the way it's meant to be eaten. People that want bubbly service and lackluster food should go to a chain restaurant, maybe I won't have to wait as long if you get out of the line at Thai Thai! read more

Thai Thai is a wonderful small restaurant in Lubbock, TX. Lubbock is not known for it's locally owned restaurants, and although franchises are welcome, I prefer local. I would definitely disagree with the use of the word "strange" to describe Thai Thai. It has the heart of the people that own and work there every day written all over it. That creates variety, and some unexpected pleasures. From the herb garden outside to the decor inside, it is like someone has welcomed you into their home to feed you. That obviously makes some people uncomfortable, but if the the food is good, then get over it. The fact that the building is an old McD's just means there is more seating than most Thai restaurants in town. That also can be a plus if you want to invite a group of friends for a meal. I do not see a penalty for using credit/debit vs. cash since the prices are very reasonable. I can only rate an eating establishment by how often I would like to eat there. If I could, I would eat at Thai Thai at least weekly if not more, and that qualifies them for 5 stars in my opinion. read more

This restaurant likely has the best tasting Thai food in town. It could hold it's own in many larger markets as well. I drop two stars because the ambiance is of an old MickyD's (which it is), the price/value ratio could be better (dishes are $2 to $3 higher than it's close competitors while being 1/2 to 2/3 the size), and, if the owner is taking the order, he pressures you to NOT use your credit card (HELLO!). Don't go here as often as I would were it not for the above, but it can handle larger groups so still end up here. I travel for a living and always try to support the locally-owned hole-in-the-walls. In twenty years of traveling, I can't remember poorer quality food or more attitude from a proprietor. Noodles were yeasty, chewy, and clumped together; vegetables were mushy and tasted as though they had been cooked much earlier in the day - Plus I've never seen a Thai dish leave a visible layer of grease on the bottom of a plate. Since you order and pay at the counter before the food arrives, I also made the mistake of pre-tipping for the privilege of having someone distractedly plop a plate down on the table. Last few times I was in Lubbock we ate at Choo Chai and loved it, but thought we'd give a new place a try, big and very disappointing mistake, the food was horrible and I left 2/3rds of it on my plate. read more

Stopped in for dinner a few weeks ago. I ordered the pad Thai and it was wonderful. The inside is nothing to rave over, but the food is 100% worth it. They also had wonton chips and a dipping sauce that was wonderful. Will definitely be coming back, maybe ordering here to go. Overall great place and I will be back! read more

Beef Noodle soup is amazing! I got it spicy and was very happy. If you like heat make sure you ask for it though.

This page says that Thai Thai doesn't serve alcohol. It's true they don't sell any in the restaurant, but you should know that it is BYOB. So, feel free to take a six pack of your favorite and enjoy it with some badass Thai food. read more

UPDATE:...... Still great...this is what food was meant to do for you, nourish and make you feel like your senses have been treated to their highest level of exciting flavors. I can only describe it like going to Italy for Italian food...a treat for the Gods, IMHO. I never had Thai food before Tahn and I were roommates in the dorm... what an experience.
