I've had better Thai food, even in Lubbock. I order Panang Curry at every Thai restaurant I visit and was not happy with what I was served. It was more like mush rather than the rich, coconut curry soup that I love. No vegetables visible either. The staff was as sour as vinegar when I asked for a different dish. The owner gave me a refund but was not happy about it. I didn't purchase another meal. I think I'll stick to Bangkok or Thai Pepper. read more

Where has this place been during all the times I've visited Lubbock. Let's start with the service...it was quick and my order was correct. The staff is very nice. Now the food...who knew that egg drop soup could taste any better than it already did. They put their own little spin on egg drop soup by adding some additional spices that brought out the flavor. It was yummy. I ordered the Genghis Khan Beef...the beef was marinated to perfection and the veggies were tender yet crisp. The rice was excellent as well. This place serves some of the most authentic Thai dishes I've ever had in Texas. My mom was born in Bangkok, and I used to think that no Thai restaurant in the U.S. could ever match my mom's cooking, but this place proved me wrong. Of course, my mom's cooking will always be the best, but this place comes in close second to her cooking. One of my friends recommended this place to me, and I was very skeptical about trying it out at first. I believe the building used to be a McDonald's, and the interior still resembles it, but don't let that deter you from trying their food. I did take a star off because I feel like they could improve their decor, but the food here is great. When you walk in, they have a wall with their menu and pictures of each of their dishes. The cashier will take your order and hand you a number, and you pick a table to sit at. I've tried their tod mun (fried fish cakes), beef jerky, yellow curry, beef noodle soup, som tum (papaya salad), and khao soi. The tod mun is very tasty and fried perfectly. It has the perfect amount of spices, kaffir leaves and thinly sliced string beans. Their beef jerky and papaya salad are also delicious, seasoned just right, and tastes just how I remember eating it at home. Their yellow curry is amazing, but my two favorites have to be the beef noodle soup and their khao soi. The beef noodle soup comes in a tangy beef broth, and you can select your spice level. They give you a good amount of beef slices and rice noodles, topping it with green onions, cilantro, and bean sprouts. If you're in the mood for a curry like soup dish, khao soi is the way to go. It's a yellow curry base with egg noodles and chicken, topped with fried noodles and purple onions. I usually don't see this dish in Thai restaurants that often, so I'm glad that they have it here! Their portions are a little on the smaller side, but I'm always full when I leave this place. This is a great spot for a quick lunch. read more

We ordered 4 dishes and all of them were horrible. We ordered number 20, 21, 22, and 34. One of the dishes was burnt and all of them were over-salted and unappetizing. We didn't finish our food. The service wasn't so great either (the guy who brought out our food). The best thing we had at this place was their fried rice, which is really sad to say about any restaurant. I was slightly disappointed because the only time I would eat Thai food is when I go back home to Frisco to visit. Today I was craving Thai beef noodle soup, so I decided to come here. I ordered Thai noodle soup(of course) and my boyfriend ordered the beef fried rice. His food came out first and he was not happy with it. The rice was really mushy, so that killed his appetite. My noodle soup was okay. Not great but okay. The broccoli and snap pea they put in the soup kinda threw me off because it normally doesn't have broccoli or peas in it. Being new to Lubbock and looking for something good to eat, my wife and I saw this first on Yelp and the initial reviews looked promising. This place looks like a converted DQ and looked quite simple. Ordering took a little bit to figure out but once we did, there was just an enormous variety of dishes to try. I ended up ordering a sampler plate of shrimp sate, chicken and vegetable curry with a cup of rice. I ordered medium heat not being familiar with the place. This order was a #30 called Ashtar. My wife got a vegetable curry with crisp noodles, medium heat. Both dishes were excellent with enough heat to clear your nose but not too much. We will definitely go back to this place if we go back to Lubbock. read more

First time here and it was good. I ordered the Artar (medium) and should have gone with spicy. Restaurant was busy and that's always a good sign! Clean but out of condiment cups and chop sticks. I also hate these places where you order at the counter and they deliver food as it is prepared; half our table had food way before others in our group. It leaves you awkwardly waiting..... Super yummy food! The picture menu made it easy to order dishes I couldn't remember the name of (or knew by a slightly different name). The prices are cheap enough I could afford it as a broke college student. And the food is always served piping hot by a friendly person. This is a nice little restaurant and the best Thai place in town. The owner prefers you pay in cash and he will let you know. They set up shop in an old McDonald's building, which seems a bit strange, but the food is good and it's cheap, what more could one ask for. read more

There's nothing better than when a family from an exotic country decides to settle and grow roots to make a name for themselves. Lucky for us, this family started a restaurant. The coconut soup is the best I've ever had. They've catered to the American palette by allowing you to choose your level of heat. I am forever in love with Thai Thai's khow soy curry soup. When I'm sick and congested, I get it spicy and I feel so much better afterward. Since all patrons order at the counter, the line can get quite long at peak eating times. Also, the wonton may run out. These are the risks, but it's worth the reward. read more

Definitely in the rotation when I'm in the mood for thai here in Lubbock. Reasonably priced, good thai food. Actually open for dinner on weekends, which is nice.(Thai pepper is closed for dinner on Saturday and closed completely on Sundays) Thai flavors definitely there, however knifework on entrees are a little less refined compared to thai pepper. Plenty of space at restaurant, though can get a little busy at lunch. My one knock on this place is that I'm not particularly fond of of the Pad Thai here, its OK but not great. read more

Pretty good Thai food. Although the interior is an odd set up it actually reminds me of food courts in south east Asia which is a plus. Not a chain restaurant and does not try to be one. Husband and wife plus other family members own and operate the restaurant. Radium, the owner or Mr. Grumpy as my children call him(You'll know him by the yellow shirt he wears quite often.), is eccentric and fun. He loves to tell about his country and their customs. The food is wonderful and made to the level of spice that you prefer. The line to order seems long at times, but the order taker goes slowly as to not over whelm the kitchen. Your order will arrive quickly after ordering. Be warned you may well become one of the very many regulars. read more

My family has been eating at Thai Thai for 26 years, they originally were located on the corner of 50th and Quaker. We have been "addicted" all these years. I have had almost every item on the menu and they are all awesome. The quality of the ingredients are always fresh and the restaurant is very clean, on a daily basis there are fresh flowers on all of the tables. The owners are great people. Although it is not the authentic thai food you would get at a hole in the wall thai restaurant in a larger city, there is something special about the food at Thai Thai. I wouldn't call it americanized, but it has a very pleasant taste even to all of my coworkers and friends who typically only enjoy Chili's and McCallisters type food. I am a regular there and go at least twice a week. I have tried everything on the menu (besides shrimp and snow pea; sounds too chinese), and while I wouldn't necessarily rate every dish 5 stars, overall they would easily average 5. The beef and pork noodle soup alone would be reason enough to make this restaurant a favorite. I highly recommend at least trying this restaurant, but don't expect an hole in the wall authentic experience! read more
