We love a good Thai food truck! My husband and I have been here several times and the food is so delicious and comforting that we keep coming back! This place is nestled in the Hawthorne Asylum Food Truck pod, which is great for a quick bite to eat or to hangout with friends. Order at the counter and get your buzzer, but don't go far because you'll be surprised with how quick the food is ready! I will warn you that the food is PIPPING hot, so give it a second to cool down before you take a bite. The pad see ew is awesome, my only wish is that it was a tad saucier. read more

3.5/5 One of the food carts in Asylum food carts. We got the beef salad medium spicy and the larb gai salad medium spicy. Beef salad was 4/5. I would definitely get it again. Spicy and sour. Perfect combination of savory and refreshing. Medium spicy was pretty spicy.. However the larb gai, although medium spicy was barely spicy at all. It seemed a little dry and bland. Definitely needed some more sauce/dressing. It was pork? Sitting on a bed of cabbage. Egg rolls were your typically egg rolls with sweet and sour sauce on the side. I wanted to try their mango sticky rice but they were out. Thai iced tea was good! It would get again.. but I'm usually not a huge fan since it's too sweet for me. If you prefer the typical sweetness of Thai iced tea not sure if you'll like it. read more

We love this food pod setup. Great variety of food, gas fire pit/dining area, lots of tables in the shade, beer and wine and great decor. This was our first time at Thai Thantawan. The woman at the counter was attentive and helpful. I ordered the veggie vegetable egg rolls, Pad Ka Prao - with beef and the Pad see ew - w/ chicken. Because I was sharing with my daughters, I asked for nothing spicy. We were given a beeper which went off after about 15 minutes. We took our food to one of the shaded tables and opened everything up. It was hot and we had to wait a bit to fully dig in. The egg roles were really good and flavorful. The sauce that came with it was a great accompaniment. The pad ka prao was good and the vegetables were great. The beef was tender and the sauce had good flavor. The Pad see ew w/ chicken was really good. The noodles were great and chicken very tender. The portions were big and we had leftovers. I would definitely come back if in the area. read more

It was a wet June Sunday and my friend and I just got done screaming our little heads off at the Portland Pride Parade. I was cold and hungry and needed something warm, filling, delicious, and comforting immediately. When I saw Thai Thantawan out of the collection of food trucks available I internally screamed "Yes! Pad See Ew". Pad See Ew is always a reliable choice when you are too hungry to make complicated food decisions. Their Pad See Ew was excellent and was exactly what my body needed. I did get a little adventurous and ordered a Thai Green Tea which I have never had before. It had the wonderful creamy texture of a standard Thai tea but with a subtle Matcha flavor. Ordered vegetarian spring rolls from here among many things from a variety of food trucks. I absolutely love thai food and it is probably my favorite cuisine so it doesn't take too much to please me when it comes to thai! We were not fans of these spring rolls. They came out to $5 which was reasonable, but the flavors were so bland that we couldn't even finish half of them! The tofu was really mushy and the peanut sauce was so thick that the roll couldn't pick it up. Will not be ordering these again if I return, but maybe would consider trying something else on the menu given the positive reviews here from other yelpers :) Giving 3 stars because of the great price point and friendly service! read more

We had a great dinner with friends at the Hawthorne Asylum food trucks. After looking around at the selection of carts I chose to eat at Thai Thantawan. Their service was friendly and prompt despite being fairly busy. The pineapple fried rice with tofu was super yummy. But, unfortunately, it had a few stray bits of chicken in it. I spotted them before I dug in, so it wasn't a huge deal. I'd just be vigilant if you order anything vegetarian from here. read more

Bought my favorite Rangoons and was greatly disappointed. Mostly nothing but crust. Tiny amounts of cream cheese and imitation crab. Very sad, they use to sell out they were so good. Cutting corners takes away from the quality. read more

I paid cash. I know exactly how much I gave them. I saw her count out my change. She handed me my change I put it in my pocket I came home and noticed that she only gave me half of a $5 bill and $1 bill. When she was taking out of the register she had to see that. Now I understand why it took her a bit too give me my chance. Today I tried calling and she did not speak English and told me to call back. I thought the meal was expensive for what it was plus the 20% tip plus the $6 I got taken advantage of. Bad business. I won't give them any business. They did that intentionally. read more

Stopped by after a trip to the river and was super hungrey! Their tofu pad thai hit the spot! Lots of flavor, the tofu was cooked perfectly and they didn't skimp on it either. Would definitely go back! Had a thai ice tea with it too! Plenty of bean sprout and peanut garnish, only thing I would change would be having a lime slice. read more

We got the pad Thai chicken, the fresh spring rolls and the Thai rolls. The pad Thai was dry, like it had no sauce on it. It was like eating really stuck together noodles with no flavor. The fresh spring rolls were not fresh. Dry as a rock on the ends and the lettuce was already brown inside. One of the rolls had little black specks all over it, I'm not sure what it was but I didn't eat it because of the foreign stuff on the food. The Thai rolls were half warm and half soggy, mostly just mush on the inside. We couldn't eat half the food it was so unappealing and we probably only ate what we did because we were starving read more

Poor quality food, really unappetizing. The salad rolls seemed like they were a day old, the rice wrappers were hard and chewy and the salad inside was wilted. The mango sticky rice was literally just a glob of rice plopped into a container with coconut milk poured on top and mango thrown in as an afterthought. Beyond disappointing and I would NOT recommend unless they change their quality of food. read more

I got the Thai fried rice with fried tofu and I can't say it was my favorite. The dish had a slightly off aftertaste on some bites and not much flavor. I recommend getting a higher spice level to add to the flavor. However not tasting amazing, the portion was very large, especially considering the $11 price tag. Also very fast service and the lady who took my order was very kind. read more

I ordered the shrimp wonton soup on a cold rainy day. It was out in five minutes, it cost $12, and it was worth every single penny. It was the best broth with sautéed garlic and ginger. Just the right amount. Diced green onions floating around. The wontons were tender and tasted of shrimp, sesame oil, and ginger. Little juicy flavor bombs. There were also some shrimp floating around and the entire effect was delicious, comforting, and will be repeated ASAP. read more

Hands down one of the best Thai places around. Very friendly thoughtful accommodating staff. But the food omg tasty flavorful and super big portions. I often get the Pad Thai my suggestion is to get a side of the Peanut Sauce which just makes this just amazing. I wish the menu had a bit more options but if you're on the fence don't give think twice this place just nails it and rivals the best in town. read more

The first time I ate here a couple months ago it was some of the best Thai food I've had in the city. I went there tonight and was very disappointed with my drunken noodle and the Tom kha. The soup was too thin and was very salty. My noodles were over cooked, strangely sweet, and lacking the heat I got last time. I ordered extra spicy both times. I'm hoping this was abnormal and plan to try it again. read more

The service here makes me not want to come here anymore. It's progressively gotten worse over the last 7 months or so. Never been charged extra for certain things that they charge for now. They always get my order wrong even though I get curry and Thai tea. They always eat the curry wrong and I always get Thai tea light ice, they don't understand and still give me a lot of ice. It's simple little things that sometimes go a long way with the customers, especially when there's an abundance of Thai food around here to choose from. And honestly this spot is just kind of mids of Thai food. Go elsewhere. read more

Ordered in from this place having never heard of it, much less knowing where it was. Kept it simple with Pad Thai and Pad See Ew and salad rolls. It was tasty. The salad rolls were a bit heavy on the lettuce and could have used some herbs in there. But the prices were great and the food was enjoyable. I will definitely try more of their menu items. read more

The brisket was a bit crunchy at the tips, but it fell apart in your mouth and wasn't chewy or tough. Overall wonderful experience. My dudes - please wash your hands. (We were there ~45 minutes and one dude with glasses washed his hands twice. I didn't see any other dude wash, but maybe there's another sink elsewhere.)

It looks like it can be dry but it's actually soft moist flavorful and freshly crispy. Other places they make it too dry or too hard, or the skin is stale/hard. Lastly $3 Cha-Yen you can't beat the value of this. It actually had such good tea flavor and not overly sweet or weak like a lot of other restaurants. We liked it so much we bought more to go to enjoy during the rest of our trip.

Biggest surprise of these dishes was the crispy pork belly that remained crispy despite being in sauce or broth. I would come back for sure for a solid delicious meal.

It is, in a word, perfect. I can only imagine what their other offerings taste like, but I myself may never know because the Green Curry is just that good. Some veggies huge bomb shrimp cooked perfectly, everything cooked spot on. The soup cream coconut flavors a little steamy on the cool day in Portland. Great tasting. They stop by to drop off the food and come by later delivering spices and checking on us. A bustling place.
