I really thought I already left a review for this place, but I guess not. It deserves one, with 5 stars. We have been here before and love it. It's a little bit of a drive, and not being open on sat is not ideal but it is worth it. Other other thai spot we go to was closed due to the crazy heat, so luckily this was saved on my yelp lists. I'm so glad they were closed. I mentioned this to the guy at Thai Yummy, and he was like, sooooo we are #2, your back-up. No way! The other unnamed thai spot is good... but wow after having Thai Yummy, our taste buds were blown away. We had yellow curry from both. One taste today was all it took. The flavor and richness is on another level! It had just enough of a kick, and was mild spice level. It reminded me of when I worked DT Seattle, Mai Phim before it got watered down. I was about ready to gnaw off my arm I was so hungry, so my friend suggested her favorite food cart up the street from the hospital. It's Thai... so of course I was in! Maybe it was the after effects of the sedation, or my insatiable hunger, but the Pumpkin Curry with chicken I ordered was remarkable. I have a few places around town where I order that dish (my favorite) but I now need to seriously consider re-ranking my favorites because Thai Yummy is among the best. The spices in the curry were perfectly complemented by the natural sweetness of the pumpkin. It's the impeccable balance of each of the ingredients that makes this dish sing. The tender bits of pumpkin soaked up the flavors of the curry, making every mouthful just delightful! The chicken was delicate and not over cooked, and the sprigs of Thai basil really added a touch of freshness and aromatic appeal. If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of OHSU in Portland, Oregon, Thai Yummy is a culinary gem that shouldn't be missed. 3.5 stars for the pad see ew. On the plus side: fresh wide Sen Yai noodles that were extra tender. Lots of places skimp on this. Medium spicy had heat to it. Super nice guy working at the food truck. Portion size was good. On the down side, the noodles lacked any hint of caramelization or umami depth. I ordered mine with tofu and paid a surcharge for extra vegetables. There were definitely not extra veggies in this and far fewer than many places add without requesting additional. So that was disappointing. As is too common, the little bit of broccoli that was included was not Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan). No point off for that, as few places in Portland use Gai Lan. I rounded up the rating and will need to return to see why this place earns five stars consistently . read more

Yummy is right. I ordered the Pad See-Ew with Tofu and Basil Fried Rice with Chicken - mild spicy for both. The order was ready for pick-up upon arrival, packed in to-go containers, and piping hot. I have to compliment their portions because they packed a lot of food in both containers, considering it was just $8-$9 each. The basil fried rice was delicious because the rice was flavorful, which the grains had the right texture you'd expect from fried rice. The ingredients were spread throughout the item - without too many veggies overbearing the other ingredients. The chicken was evident throughout and cut into portions so they melded well in a single bite. The sweet basil sauce wasn't too sweet and tasted like a light teriyaki sauce. One thing that could've elevated the dish was to add egg, which is normally in fried rice. The pad see-ew had very flavorful and soft wide-rice noodles. I'm used to eating this dish with narrower rice noodles, but since they cut the wide-noodles into sections, it worked for me. The sauce was light - similar to low sodium soy sauce with a hint of teriyaki - and the veggies were steamed well that they were soft. The chicken wings were coated with a spicy chili glaze, not too spicy, but definitely had a kick. It was crispy too. Affordable, delicious and generously portioned! I usually go for the classic Pad Kee Mao for noodles but tried the Pad Krua Gai this time. It's a wider noodle, over cabbage and tofu or meat, and was the perfect balance of light and savoury. The spicy curry was definitely Thai-spicy, which is the best kinda heat. When I started working at the hospital on the hill. I kept hearing about the Thai Chart. I finally tried it and they did not disappoint. I had the salad rolls first but honestly the peanut sauce ( I always buy extra) was what really won me over. The Thai tea is the perfect sweetness!! Then enter TOM KAH soup yummmm, when I'm feeling icky or it's freezing out here in pdx it's always my go to and it is still delisted warmed up the next day. The owner of this business saved my life. Sorry for this being my first review, I'll post others to show credibility, but I saw an unsavory rating and had to make a Yelp to support this business. This Thai cart has a very loyal following of patrons who work nearby. The review I saw accused the owner of harassing women who order from the cart. Following a harassment situation in my own life, I started coming to this cart nearly every day. The owner recognized me as half Vietnamese, and told me I remind him of his own daughter. I don't have a great support system at home currently, so this meant everything to me. He started to wait for me as I walked up the hill, already having my spring rolls (complete with wonderful peanut sauce) and Thai iced tea waiting for me. I don't think we give thanks often enough to the people who support us in the little, everyday ways. It was such a seemingly small gesture, but I genuinely don't think I would have survived without seeing his smiling face and words of encouragement every day. The salad rolls are amaze-- they are a meal by themselves because they're HUGE and only $4! Whaaat? I get them every week... I always order Pad Thai when trying a new Thai place because if they can't get that right....Yes, I ordered it mild, but that doesn't mean I want absolutely no depth of flavor. I couldn't taste any tamarind or garlic, I had to dig for the 5 or 6 pieces of green onion in there, hardly any peanuts and just so bland! I added some sweet hot chili sauce, some sriracha and SALT and it was kind of edible. I've never, ever added salt to a restaurant Pad Thai. Disappointing, to say the least.
